We're going to a surprise happy hour tonight for a friend's 50th birthday. It's in a private room with drinks and apps - should be fun! The weather is so crisp today and I'm excited to wear fall clothes (jeans, sweater, boots).
I'm annoyed, and I don't know if it is justified. The injury to my son's eye occurred at soccer practice at school. It technically happened at the end of practice so my son didn't tell anyone. As soon as my son made me aware of the injury I notified the coach and that my son wouldn't be able to play until cleared by the doctor. No response. I emailed him again to give him the final diagnosis and to let him know my son was released to play, and again, crickets. I kind of feel like the severity of my son's injury at least warranted a response, and maybe even a "I'm so sorry to hear this" or something, I don't know. I did end up reaching out to the Athletic Director to make sure that the school was aware and I'm glad that I did because there is actually a form that has to be completed.
We just had an hour long team meeting at work discussing the fact that we are being required to return to office starting 10/11. I have a feeling that we're going to lose a lot of great workers because of the way that my company is handling this.
I’ve been considering getting ruggable rugs for my kitchen because the rugs we have seem to need to be washed frequently and then replaced. I don’t know if anyone has experience with them in a high traffic area -I’d love to hear opinions. But I was having a hard time justifying the cost…now my credit card is offering 3% back and while not a lot, it’s so tempting

I had to get my driver's license renewed this AM. Last time I did online renewal, so had to go in person this time. I was in and out in under 10 minutes. I thought I would be there a long time, now I can get some errands done I've been putting off. A great start to the day!

We’ve finally found a contractor that’s at least willing to give us some quotes on adding a room above our dining room (we have and 18’ ceilings so the walls are there but we need a floor built and connected to the rest of the second floor) and putting in a patio cover. The problem is that we’re very “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” about it. If we’re adding the second floor bonus room we should add in a bigger, sliding window for safety and the enjoy the view. If an electrician is coming we should ask about ceiling fan boxes in the downstairs bedrooms, can lights in the living room, and lights on the side of the porch. Since we’re removing the concrete in the back and adding pavers we should see how much it would cost to run the pavers down the side of the house too. We’ll have to paint the new addition so we should paint it all, and so on, and so on, and so on. We tried so hard to find a contractor and I think we’re afraid that if he leaves no one will ever come back. Some of the stuff makes sense but some of it is definitely going to have to wait. Our wish list is certain to be WAY bigger than our budget.

I’m irrationally annoyed over $35. Lol
I had an appointment for my car for two weeks. We dropped it off last night for service today. They called to tell me there was damage to one of the tires I ordered and they don’t have 4 in stock. They are going to put a different set on, but want to split the cost difference between the two sets. 😒 it’s a $35 difference for me. I told them I wasn’t thrilled with the additional cost, but need my car today. The other option is waiting until Friday to have the tires we agreed upon installed. He wouldn’t budge on covering the full $70

I just finished the tv show Younger. I loved that show. I think I secretly thought my life would turn out like Liza’s..working in publishing, living in NYC. Haha. Anyway, I’m super sad that it’s over, I feel like o lost my best friend.
FWP, I'm in the office and my earbuds just died mid-call so I have to actually hold the phone up to my ear. And I don't have the right charger for them here so it's going to be like this all day.
As usual, DH's guess on when he'll get home keeps bumping out by another day or two every time we talk. We're getting close to a full two months at this point.

Can they give you a loaner car?
Maybe, but I don’t know it’s worth the hassle. The dealership is 30 min away and trying to get the loaner and my car is going to be time consuming. I will moan about the $35, but ultimately pay it.
Today is a good day. I just bought Shawn Mendes concert tickets and I have the biggest smile on my face, even though it isn't until July 2022. I miss concerts so much.
Our centralized HR decided to send emails to an email address for me that doesn't exist. And then wonder when they do send them to the right email, it's basically too late to respond.
Some offices have transferred to a new email. Mine has not. My email is in all of my signature blocks. Why is it too hard to confirm an email address?
I am currently faking my way through some contract work based on my extensive use of google and general common sense.
I feel really weird about charging people for this, but I was strongly encouraged to take on the work even after I told my contact that I didn't have specific experience in their area of need.
And I guess I am an especially good google-er. About time someone paid me for that. LOL.

I volunteered at DS's preschool this morning and now feel like I need a nap. Tons of respect for preschool teachers doing this everyday! Also, seems like so much to expect from a bunch of 4 year olds, where's the time to run around.

We have one in our kitchen under the kitchen table. It's okay. We used to have it in our entryway and then I moved it. I've always had trouble with the edges/corners curling up. I had to buy some sticky things to put on the corners because the undermat it kinds velcros to doesn't do the trick. I don't know that I would repurchase.
I am waiting to get my COVID booster and flu shot at CVS in Target. My appointment was 10 minutes ago and i am still not even checked in so idk how long this is going to take. There is a long line. I am kind of annoyed, though maybe i should have expected it? I don't really have time to wait today though so I would not have made an appointment if i knew this was going to be the case. I usually get my flu shot here with an appointment and it's always been close to being on schedule.
I have so much going on in the next few weeks, though, that tomorrow is really the only day when I could deal with possible side effects! I have to work but no meetings or other after work commitments.
My chat with the new director went well! He was easy to talk to and is open to the idea of a hybrid role in the immediate future, maybe not long term (which is fine with me because because I'd be using it as a stepping stone anyway). it will take some talks between him and some other folks. "Worst case" scenario, if the hybrid thing doesn't work out, he's open to me shadowing some POs on his team until May when I'd have been there a year and would be eligible to apply for a new position on his team.
I'm tired of being hungry all the time. What do y'all eat for snacks? I feel like none of the healthy snack recs really do it for me. I don't like cheese so that's out. Nuts don't seem to satisfy me unless I eat a lot which defeats the healty purpose. I do buy precut veggies and dip, but eventually get bored of that or it gives me too much gas lol.

I don’t recommend them. I think I replied in the other thread too but it’s just a printed on design, it’s not soft or plush, the corners keep coming off when our cleaner vacuums it. Definitely not worth the price. Now I just go to TJ Max, spend less, spot clean or dry clean and enjoy a pretty print that’s more saturated and plush for half or a quarter of the price

My family has a black cloud looming overhead.
On Monday, we found out that my FIL only has a maximum of 2 years if he completes and intensive 6-month course of chemotherapy. He has advanced lung cancer and we were not expecting this news. He was only diagnosed with cancer last week! The tumors in his lung are basically taking over and he has no lung capacity on the right side. We are devastated.
Yesterday, I took our 2 year old kitty to the vet for a routine dental cleaning and tooth extraction. His heart stopped on the table and despite getting it restarted after a few minutes, his breathing was bad and he was never going to wake up. We had to make the decision to let him go. We have only had him 4 months and yet, we were all so bonded to him. My boys are heart broken.

I agree, I don’t think mine is all that great and I definitely could have paid less for a nicer rug.
I have a 5X7 and a standard washing machine and my rug doesn’t fit so I don’t know how they think they’re machine washable.
The only people I see rave about ruggable rugs are influencers. Everyone I know IRL who has one doesn’t like it.
sameoldstory I’d be livid. Is it possibly they are worried you will sue and aren’t responding after getting some legal advice? I’d think they’d respond something though.

I don’t know if this was due to Covid but I had to do in person too and it was so fast. Why did it take them this long to figure out how to do it quickly?

So my sister and BIL are staying with me until they find a new house here.
It's been three weeks and I seriously do not know how any of us get anything done. I have a three car garage and the entire area above it is one large office suite, so all 3 of us have our desks up there, each in a separate corner. All we do all day is laugh about random stupid stuff that we deal with.
Then my father pops over every day around noon and the true comedy hour starts.

No idea, but hope it continues. I only go there every few years it seems, but it's usually a pain. Today a woman was by the door as I got my number and said I'd be next and I barely sat down and my # was called. The place was clean, seats moved far apart, and the workers all pleasant.
