I’ve seen some people quote Dr Viney Prasad a few times, particularly in the @ thread. I would like to remind people he is a horrible person, isn’t even a practicing doctor anymore (and was an oncologist at that, not ID, not @trician). His latest “think piece” says a pandemic will be the downfall of democracy.

Guy is vindictive and obsessed with himself, but won’t allow discourse. Like little ol 400 follower me has been Twitter blocked. I assume because I liked a tweet calling him out.
Anyway, just a reminder that just an MD after the name does not make a reliable source. Also, please stop quoting a guy who is enjoying his popularity with the crazies. And yes, I use to respect him, listen to his podcast, even recommended it to an oncologist.

Today's Daily episode is about ivermectin. I did not realize Joe Rogan is the reason it became all the rage starting several months ago (before he had covid, although I know he claimed to have used ivermectin to "cure" him but the hype predates this). But...of course he was.
If Trump croaks before 2024 Joe Rogan will be the GOP nominee.

This is a good reminder to watch resources, not to use op-eds as fact, and to check confirmation biases. I wish I could ban twitter from here (have for a while) but it is what it is.
I am trying to time out my booster shot because life is busy right now. Everyone I have talked to so far felt like crap for their 3rd dose if they also felt like crap for their 2nd dose. So I am bracing myself. I was knocked out. You don't have to tag me to tell me you had a different experience. I know it isn't always the case. But since I always react to vaccines I just don't think I can escape it. ugh
Anyways I think I found my window at the end of October. Bonus it is 3 weeks before we go on a little vacation so hopefully I will be at optimal boosting by that point.
I also am feeling good about watching numbers going down.
Can I just say how much I hat all the anti-vaccine proganderists at the moment? We had to dump doses of vaccines here as people didnt take them up. We are at less than 10% of the population fully vaccinated and are having major issues persuading people.
Also I really hate the people who have worked to discredit the Astra Zennica vaccine. Studies are showing it is doing well at standing up to Delta, it is the cheapest vaccine to get and the most readily available. But people are wanting Pfitzer (which we cannot get stocks of) as that is the one they see their American friends getting. And any doses of Pfitzer that we getting, we are reserving for teenagers so they can go back to school so adults are annoyed.
jamaicam, Oh man that's awful (the dumping). I get a fair amount of sly shit with people saying, out loud, "I'm really worried about Delta & people that say they are vaccinated but got J&J. They aren't nearly as protected as myself who go Pfizer..."
Um, lady, I got the first shot I was offered PER THE CDC & it was J&J. Sorry that now you think I'm a danger to you & that I shouldn't *actually* be considered fully vaccinated. WTAF.
AZ & J&J can be hugely impactful...if everyone gets vaccinated! I'm angry that those 2 vaccines, which IIRC don't require the same intense storage standards as the mRNA one, could make a massive difference in the 3rd world or communities in difficult to reach places. Instead, they are being looked down upon...everywhere...and it's not helpful.

Obviously, people vary. But planning is a good idea. It's easier to do more and feel better than cancel everything last minute.
Both 2nd and 3rd times, DH got knocked down about 24 hours out from his actual shot and was in bed with a fever for the next 36 hours.
I'm not eligible yet. But that was my first shot. my second shot knocked me out for three days. If I do that again, I'll have spent a week with fever/body aches/exhaustion/head ache - that's more than the average covid case for someone my age, lol.

I listened to it this morning & had a new level of contempt for Joe Rogan. SO many of my white, male coworkers like him & have even seen his show. I think he's the Rush Limbaugh of podcasting....

Yep. J&J booster data actually shows more effective than Pfizer. But in any case, I’m most interested in the cross-vaccine data as a j&j recipient. Would getting moderna (higher performing against delta than Pfizer) work better than a J&J booster? That data is coming soon.
Well in Dubai we aren't considered high risk, so jo boosters for us even though I got my 2nd dose in early March. I'm really not sure what they are waiting for. Based on availability, they have plenty of vaccine on hand.

That Joe Rogan podcast from June 22 was pretty fascinating actually. I wouldn’t say he was fanatical at all in the podcast. He interviewed two doctors who had been studying ivermectin and it’s effects on COVID since the beginning.
My husband and I listen to him pretty regularly & I’ve never found him to really take one side of the argument.
I would encourage anyone to listen to the podcast if they want to understand the context & how the issue was discussed (it was more about the doctor’s work and censorship from You Tube).
The best podcast he did this year is Yeomi Park and her escape from North Korea. I swear I was crying listening to her story.

Summary, listening to these guys is like listening to the handful of scientists that say that climate change isn't happening, or that vaccines cause autism. There's little to no evidence to support them. Stop listening to podcasts to get your scientific information.

Yes. Fully agree!
As an anecdote my J&J vaccine got a workout in August. I (stupidly) got together with friends. 2 of them weren't vaccinated. Covid was spreading rapidly at that time and someone brought it with them. For the ones not vaccinated it went through their entire families and it was bad. For those of us that are vaccinated we never got it. Two of us got J&J. So yes the lack of date has been frustrating but I do feel as protected as everyone that got vaccinated.

Absolutely not. The problem with people like Rogan is that he will have some good and normal guests and conversations, which then makes people view him as credible or “just asking questions” when he has truly terrible people on there and says all kinds of awful stuff. There are so many instances of him being racist and sexist and transphobic. He’s terrible, and nobody should listen to him.

Thanks for the info ! I’ll read up on that !
Part of Joe’s issue is he’ll interview almost anyone with any opinion. I think it’s going to bite him in the ass long term

Agreed. He's also fairly charismatic and able to communicate in ways that makes it seem like he's reasonable. Aka that he can "see both sides". Which makes him dangerous.
Example, the people he has on regarding climate change: "The Joe Rogan Experience, with its millions of listeners, has hosted Randall Carlson more than once to talk for hours on end about how Earth's natural cycles (and sunspots, volcanoes, etc., etc.) are really to blame for climate change while "the so-called consensus view" on climate is driven by politics. Rather than press him for evidence, Rogan gifted Carlson with the quip "that's the real inconvenient truth." www.sierraclub.org/sierra/2021-4-fall/critic-s-notebook/podcasts-make-climate-crisis-personal

I read Yeonmi Park's book and her story is very compelling. She's aligned herself with the likes of Ben Shapiro lately though.
There have been questions about the accuracy of her story. I went into a rabbit hole on this one a few months ago--it sounds like there are major inconsistencies to her stories that aren't easy to address: thediplomat.com/2014/12/the-strange-tale-of-yeonmi-park/

Yeah, I've heard that too. I feel like it's not my place to judge if her story is true or not but that other North Korean refugees have expressed doubt, I think it's worth taking her story with several grains of salt.
The Daily Podcast also made mention of the angle to the Joe Rogan story about "being silenced". Once they started making these crazy shows & were "just asking questions", then Facebook & YouTube took down anything that was clearly misinformation. That got their hackles all up & they started playing the "BUT BUT BUT big Pharma is trying to silence us!!!" card which helped their movement gain even more traction and become more viral as they convinced people the deep state was out to get them and their alternate facts about COVID.
For those who got moderna are you planning to wait for the booster is approved? I am about 8 months out from being fully vaccinated and returning to work in a hospital next week where they are giving employees the Pfizer booster. I’m torn as to what to do.
Yea - I will wait until a booster is approved and recommended for my specific situation before I get one.
I don’t think it’s harmful to get a booster, but I’m not convinced that it’s necessary or beneficial in my case.

Has your system given specific guidance? My husband works in outpatient but does see symptomatic patients. He got Pfizer and is really torn on getting another dose or trying to wait until some sort of guidance is issued on mixing vaccines for boosters. His system is making boosters available, but isn't really providing guidance on who should get them.

It seems to me, giving her grace here, that she has experienced some deep, deep trauma. Inconsistencies like this are not uncommon in that scenario. I just can’t imagine being in her situation.

It’s not implausible to me that pharma of course wants to make money. That’s what our society is about. I remember being a pharma saleswoman in my earlier 20s and that is a shady industry to say the least. I couldn’t stand it and ethically had to leave for my own sanity
That part of the story makes sense to me. Whether IVM is the drug that really helps COVID? I’m not totally convinced, nor is it the situation to make a point
