Random Q - Has anyone passed out from a COVID test? I had to get one last week for work and they sent me somewhere I had never been (I've been tested 4 times before). The tester put the swab so far up after the first nostril I didn't know if I could take the other one. After the second swab, I passed out (completely out - seizuring woke me up). Now I'm terrified to get tested again. A google search says it happens but just wondering if it had happened to anyone else?
Allen West said he’s taking HCQ and sheep dewormer “protocols.” Dude, no such thing. There are no “protocols” like it’s a standard treatment regimen.
He also tweeted that he doesn't trust doctors so he went straight to the hospital.
So many of our patients will question what the doctor said, and I think they’re expecting the nurses to say “yes, you’re right. I don’t trust evidenced based practice either and you should refuse the plan of care and dictate your own.”
OMG missva , that is really scary! Was it from the pain? I'd definitely never go to that location again.
It was painful (I had a headache / sinus ache the rest of the day) but apparently it also happens because of something called seal dive reflex which causes blood to rush to internal organs. It sucked, and I'm hoping it was just the tester and doesn't become a thing.

That sounds scary! I don’t think there’s any reason they need to put it so far up. If you have to do it again, I would ask if you could swab yourself while they observe. When I went to one site they had me do it and said just to swirl it around inside my nostril about 6 times.

Different tests require a different swab method.
Some are still a deep swab and some are the swirls right inside the nostril.
@missva, I haven’t heard of that. I would imagine that was really scary, and I’m sorry that was your experience.
There are several different kinds of tests, and some have to go farther up than others. The PCR I got didn’t need to go in very far (I think they call it anterior nasal), but the one they did for my kids has to go back really far (oral-pharyngeal). Maybe that’s something you can check the next time you have to get tested. We also have saliva tests, but they don’t seem to be as accurate as the others.
missva, apparently it happens often enough that when I had a PCR test done at a drive through testing center they had me put the car in park and move my feet so they could see them. The guy explained it was because of this very reaction.

Whoa. I was also in my car and thank goodness it was in park!
I need to figure out where to get my booster next month. I got my first 2 at the doctor, but I'm not sure if they will do the booster with me being considered obese or if I should just see if CVS is giving Pfizer now (they were doing Moderna).
Also, DH's work did his and they haven't said anything about a booster. He qualifies under high blood pressure, but he's also about to be in the office full time, so I want him to get his booster too.
