Cars: we sold ours in Sept 2020, and while looking for a new (used) one and finding low stock and high prices all the vendors told us that shipments of new cars would be arriving in Oct-Nov, and that would in turn take the pressure off the used market. We ended up buying in Dec, when those shipments still hadn't come in, and thank goodness because there are still basically no cars to be had, and prices have just gotten even higher to the point that we could sell our car for almost $10k more than we paid for it.
Dog food and medicines: several pet stores have been out of stock and told me they've had problems getting my dog's food, but luckily a shipment seems to have come in. One of her meds is still hard to find.
Furniture: we replaced our couch a couple months ago, and soooo many things had delivery for months later. We were lucky to find one we liked that was in stock.
The most concerning one I’ve experienced is a medicine I was going to start. It is a weekly injection and the next best alternative is a daily injection, which is a bummer.
If it is really as bad as they say it is, with millions of shipping containers piled up in California, can’t the federal government do some kind of incentive program, like a grant or double pay to every worker who goes to unload and transport them? I feel like this should be concerning enough to the country that there would be some effort to help solve it.
Kirkland PB—though I read something that it should be back in November. The Teddy’s brand they have now is acceptable, the brand they had before is not.

My H read an article that said the port only runs 1st shift. WTF?!?!? They were like "yah maybe we'll look at adding 2nd shift. Meh."
Head. Explode.
Now I don't know the economics of how ports get paid and what financial incentives they have. Apparently not much of a financial incentive or they'd have added more shifts already. But compared to how the manufacturing industry handles demand..... I was surprised.
Tennis balls and Aveeno shaving cream (if anyone has a rec for a shave soap that’s good for sensitive skin I’ve been wanting to switch to a more environmentally friendly product anyway)
Oh, I know people like it. I just wonder why someone at Coca Cola headquarters thought “hey, let’s make this new thing that is ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE this old thing.” I really don’t understand the Coke Zero Sugar thing that came out recently. Alas, it is probably best for everyone I’m not making decisions at huge multinational corporations.
I also wonder if the Coke Zero shortage is supply chain or a push for their new product.
Anyone remember C2? It was out in the early 2000s I think. It was like half regular Coke, half Diet Coke. I don’t think it lasted very long.
They put it in the vending machines at my school. It did not end well. 🤣
Sofa. I've been waiting since I ordered it in April and supposedly it will be here late November or maybe December.
Both of my parental units also have furniture on back order. My dad built a house last year that was completed in May and said if he had known he would have ordered last fall!
We waited 4 months for our couch and it was delivered last week. I don’t love it, at all, and under normal circumstances would return it. But…I can’t go another 4-6 months without a couch, so it is what it is.
Well I can tell you that electronic control panels for the backs of refrigerators are completely out of stock everywhere in the world apparently. It turned a $350 fridge repair into a $2800 new fridge purchase because after two months of not having one we couldn’t wait any longer.
We also paid for half of a rolling garage door install in March- was suppose to be installed in June/July. Materials don’t even have an estimated arrival date and our guy is still waiting on orders he placed in January, so maybe we can have a usable outdoor space next summer?
A certain light I ordered awhile back and got my HOA to approved. It’s buddies (post lights) showed up, but the porch light was no where to be found. We thought we lost it, but the I checked and it will ship in November.
Rye flour. I can *not* find a 5lb bag of rye flour anywhere.
I think the board might be tired of me talking about it, 😂
Your admonitions haunt my dreams and are why I’m done Christmas shopping in October.
I’m already starting to collect non-perishables for thanksgiving and Christmas meals.
As a type A person, I’ve never felt more alive, and I only have you to thank!!
All of this. Every time I go shopping I grab an extra of shelf stable stuff to have as backup in case it’s missing next time. I couldn’t find Pam cooking spray for weeks so I was happy I had back up.

It is much more than employee shortage. It is from the top to bottom. Getting the vessels offloaded is not going to do any good if there is no where to put containers. There is literally no where to stack them. You have to have a storage area for them to clear customs and possibly be inspected. There is a rail chassis shortage. There has been a shortage for CDL drivers for 10+ years. Without rail or trucks they can’t get the containers from the port.
Next issue… warehouses are short staffed too. This is causing an issue accepting containers once there. They can’t offload from the trucks. It delays the chassis and/or drivers. Once it’s offloaded there may or may not be staff to sort the items. This takes up space keeping them from being able to accept more.
The US is not the only country with this problem. It is global. There are export ports who can’t move freight because the vessels are stuck at the import ports. They are also having the above issues.
Without going in great lengths of my job I have containers sitting in a port waiting on rail. It arrived in Aug. it got stacked on. They can see it. They can’t move it. It was scheduled for arrival to its final destination Aug. 25. The latest update gave an ETA is 10/23. I don’t think it’s moving by then. We can’t get rail Space
I can't stand Diet Coke, but will drink Coke Zero. It tastes different, better.

Lol!
My husband gets headaches from the sweetener in Diet Coke so he loves Coke Zero
So far, I've been shopping early for bdays/Christmas, but able to get everything thus far, and was starting to think I was being crazy and just over-paying by buying without sales! But maybe not.
I've only had trouble with toilet paper and paper towels at Costco. I have been making sure I re-stock right away with anything random I use up. I'm building a little back stock again (not major hoarding, just back-up!), b/c I used up most of the Covid supplies.

Ah.. refrigerator trucks are in dire straits. They had to convert those for Covid use. Either as morgues or to transport vaccines. It is causing medication shortages. Also medically licensed manufacturers had to swap to covid relief medications. I do know we have a team working on securing more import for FDA needed supplies. I am not as familiar with what goes into moving this.

Stok? I haven't been able to find that shit in MONTHS.
Here it seems abundant at Target, in case that might help
No dark roast Starbucks. It was only that one and then the other stuff they have (medium roast and premixed drinks like caramel macchiato in the big bottles) dropped like flies

The possibility of medication shortages really freaks me out. There is only one antibiotic my DD can take and it was already hard to find. I imagine it will be nearly impossible now.
Sure hope this gets better soon! Just seems strange it’s getting worse.
Also I cannot get an electrician to come over here to save my life. Not a supply chain issue, but there’s a whole wall that hasn’t worked since we moved in at the beginning of the pandemic, when obviously we didn’t want anyone coming in our house. I guess everyone is trying to get things fixed now?
I can’t get anyone out to replace my steps or an electrician! Unless you are apparently gutting a house, they don’t respond.
We ordered a table that goes in the pool from Ledge Lounger in April. We got part of it in September and the second part supposedly has shipped. We missed the entire pool season!
We ordered new barstools for our outdoor kitchen 4/1. They told us then they’d be in 10/15 so missing the entire season. Whatever. Ours are rough but usable. They called mid-June and said they weren’t coming till mid-May. I’m sure raw material are an issue (even more now than then) but they’re US based. I hope they come in May bc that will be perfect timing and I’m not sure if ours will be usable next year.

I had a lot of trouble last year getting Coke Zero and tweeted about it. Coke responded and said they were concentrated on putting out the most popular flavors (regular coke and Diet Coke). That made sense and why I was surprised to see them revamp the flavor of Coke Zero this summer. Why do that when you are limiting production?

This is because the original Diet Dr. Pepper is far superior. And always sold out. I go searching for it only to find Dr. Pepper Zero sitting in its place, mocking me LOL.
But seriously, scrubs. We have a particular style and color my staff selected in the before times and now I can’t get it in certain sizes for the new people. I’ve asked the new staff to pick whatever style they like as long as they can find them in the right colors. Hopefully.
