I was able to get an XBox X for my DS and a PS5 for a cousin (he paid for his, I'm not that nice of an aunt) using the GameStop Pro option. It's a $20 subscription which annoyed the heck out of me, but it worked and now I'm done. They have had special bundles about once a week that sell out in the pro presale before it goes public.
I am not noticing as much Christmas decor. I've been wanting to buy a new fake tree and finally resigned myself to paying what they cost, and now I can't find them.
I think sales are going to be this holiday. Painting supplies are usually 30% off at Sherwin Williams and now it's 10% and every item has a 4% supply chain surcharge. I need new dishes and was hoping for the early November sales but the salesperson said it would be unlikely this year. I'm still going to wait.
This thread has me mildly panicked and wanting to go to costco and Target.
I have been harping for months about the tree and light shortage this year. ☹️ It’s unfortunately going to be a hard find. Don’t expect sales on holiday decor. If you see it and want/need it for the holidays buy it then.
My company has a client who cannot get their seasonal items on vessels. They paid premium plus some to get a very minimal amount in. They didn’t get enough to stock all their stores. Only select areas will get shipments.
I tossed my fake tree last year after 2 sections of lights died right after Christmas. I’m moving and don’t want to buy a fake tree yet. I think I’ll get a real tree this year and look in 2022 for a new fake one. Or put my 4ft pink tree up as our family tree this year 🤣
I've been on the hunt for warmer maternity jackets and I wonder if this is why I can't find them hardly anywhere. I don't want to spend a ton and stores like Old Navy and Target have nothing.
I've had some random groceries out of stock lately, but this has been happening the entire pandemic, and they don't go out for more than a week or two usually. I don't eat pickles, peanut butter, or drinks besides water and milk so maybe that's why I haven't noticed lol.
I couldn't find certain Christmas lights we needed last year, so thanks for the reminder to buy what I need now.

I also bought new Christmas lights at the end of September because of you! If you tell me to rob a bank at this point just call me John Dillinger. 😂
For anyone looking, Lowe’s has their Christmas lights now. The only thing I couldn’t find for a reasonable price were pathway lights (like candy canes).

I'm used to stocking up on decor and string lights at 75% off after the holidays for the next year and well, that's not happening again. I put up my outside lights and Halloween inflatables this Sunday and was short one orange strand of lights. Walmart is out, Lowe's has cleared out all Halloween for Christmas stuff, checked Target, Big Lots, Home Depot, all out. Amazon had it but at triple what Walmart was selling it for. Two years ago I bought an inflatable 4' spider at Aldi's for $7. He died this year and something comparable is $50 on Amazon. Eeek.
I have had good luck in snagging the candy cane pathway lights on Amazon Warehouse Deals over the summer. I have 20 sets and haven't paid over 6 bucks for any of them.

Clothing and shoes are slow to come out. We are use to buying months ahead for seasonally appropriate items. They will Likely hit the shelves in real time.

Plum Organics Mashups (applesauce pouches with other fruits and veggies mixed in) - the only way I can get my daughter variety of fruits and veggies, especially.

So what will happen to the Xmas stuff when it finally gets shipped? Will they save it for next year or is that all going to be trashed? I’m so curious how this backlog will ever end. How will they catch up and will the goods be sold at a discount because they are old/last season/etc?

At my company, it will be packed away for a year and then will become part of next year's set. There's really no such thing as last season in holiday decor. It's always a different take on the same motifs and colors every year. Inventory is our most valuable asset.
I literally never drink Gatorade but apparently I am supposed to drink it before my surgery next week. I guess I need to start shopping now? I had no idea this might be an issue. I think the last time I had Gatorade was like 2007.
I think you can also make Gatorade from a mix. I wonder if that's impacted.
I've never until this thread realized how passionate people are about pickles. If pickles were the last food available on earth, I'd be dead rather than eat them.
I just bought some of the mix because DS likes it for after running and I was sick of searching with the shortage. They had plenty of the mix at Walmart.
I actually like it a lot - it's so much cheaper, and I don't feel guilty about all the plastic waste.

This will be up to manufacturers and purchasing companies. It’s really going to depend on how their contracts are created and what the product is. I would hope they save it and try again next year. My company has no say in what happens
mysteriouswife and other shippers/logistics folks, what other shortages are you foreseeing down the road?
Not in shipping, but I’m in chemicals. Citric acid will continue to be a cluster for the next year. Any food canned with citric or made with citric is going to be rough. Surfactants are also bad. Expect to see cleaning product brands reduce their skus. Paint shortages will continue.

Everything. Not even joking. It’s going to be a yo-yo. We will see something that has been missing hit the market. Then the items we have been getting are going to go into low supply. It’s all about securing space to transport. Since no one really buys all their products from the same suppliers it’s going to continue to be this way.
Chemicals are starting to get sketch. They are moving to more air shipping, but a majority of chemicals cannot be flown due to pressure. This is anything from cleaning to FDA approved chemicals. This will ripple through many categories.
Large appliances have been an issue since the beginning of the pandemic. We are slowly seeing them coming back online. The backlog is unreal. So I suspect they will in short supply by Jan.
Shoes and clothing is another area that is coming back slowly, but later than normal. I am actually excited they are going to have swim wear when we need it and not in January 🤣. This is a going joke in the zoom chats at work.
Food is hit or miss. Can fruits (pumpkin being the #1 ATM) is going to be harder to get. Anything in aluminum or tin will be difficult for some time.
Electronics will be short for a long time. No one is really saying how long. I suspect a few years. We had a high demand across the world for computers and work from home devices. There was a huge push for more medical equipment. So the chip shortage will be felt for a while. My company is 9 months behind on computer replacement. I started in Jan. I just got my laptop last week. They have been on back order since 2020. I was using one they dug from the pits of hell.
Cosmetics. I haven’t heard any official on this one. I do know a decrease in supplies for a vendor is happening.
These are just some of the things I deal with daily. I can ask around in other departments when we meet.
they're going for 20$ a dozen here...really gourmet price for a bar food
also, crab meat, so many restaurants have really raised the prices on crabcakes etc.
Yes, crab meat is also an issue. Most of the restaurants in my area have been very open about having to raise the cost of their crab dishes due to supply chain issues.
I haven't tried to order wings out at a restaurant recently, but I notice the grocery store is always bare in that area. The grocery store employees say that as soon as they have some to put out, they're gone.
It seems like they are transitioning from Coke Zero to Zero Coke? No idea why, but I still have no idea why Coke Zero was made in the first place even though people really like.
Speaking of Coke, I find that every 2-3 months Diet Coke will be out of stock EVERYWHERE for about a week, but it always comes back (so far).
My H has been having a really hard time finding unflavored Topo Chico.
I can't stand Diet Coke, but will drink Coke Zero. It tastes different, better.
Yes, it was made because Diet Coke tastes nothing like regular Coke. Coke Zero is a diet version of coke. Diet Coke is it’s own flavor.
The elementary had to ask parents to send snacks bc the cafeteria can no longer source the snack packs they usually buy (rold gold pretzels and goldfish)

I live in the middle of nowhere
This week I went to the “big city” 3.5 hours away and was at the grocery store with my grandma. A random guy was complaining about how empty the shelves were and I wanted to cry /laugh because it was the best stocked grocery store I’d been in in months.
Meat is our biggest problem. Frozen, lunchmeat, fresh, breakfast sausage…. It’s all hard to find.
I’ve been having trouble finding all free and clear detergent which is the one we aren’t allergic to.
The kids get picky about yogurt flavors and brands and that can be hard to accommodate.

Starting to get sketch. Ahahahahaha. 😅😅😅 Many people don’t know it, but our industry collapsed in March and keeps getting worse.

Well, yes. There are a lot of industries that have been hit hard. Chemicals are moving. Just not all of them.

We must be in similar industries.
Today we found out about a lubricant shortage. Also dealing with colorant shortages- not sure if pigment or additives are the issue. To make a plastic thing you are depending on so many additives so if one is unavailable it can hose up everything. It's random but "all chemicals" is a good summary.
Overall just expect quality to be variable. Companies do extensive testing on materials over the lifecycle of a product and then they have to do a substitution with no data. It's probably fine most of the time but some of the time it's going to fail in a way they couldn't predict.
The LL Bean website very prominently notes that there are shipping delays due to supply chain issues and the pandemic.
I was thinking about mentioning LL Bean, too. I ordered an adventure duffle in June as a gift, and I think some colors were available and some backordered. Mine (backordered) took about 6 weeks to arrive. I checked again the other day and several colors are still on backorder.
