This could have maybe gone in the supply chain thread…. I’m a Diet Coke addict. 99% sure it’s the caffeine. Costco is out of Diet Coke, which sets me up to do something’s I’ve wanted to do for years and year…. Get off Diet Coke.
I don’t *hate* coffee, as long as it’s not black. But I do dislike hot beverages. And super cold beverages. Back in my 20s, I’d do coffee on those 2am Waffle House trips, with like 3 packs of sugar and some cream, and after it cooled down. And I’ll drink maybe one Starbucks moaca thing every few years.
Give me your gateway coffee tips, turn me into a coffee person.
I make my own “iced coffee” in a French press. I needs many hours to steep so I do it overnight. You can always nuke it a bit so it’s not so cold? I like it with vanilla oat milk
ETA: my favorite is Starbucks mocha or caramel flavored beans when I want it more…indulgent.

I'm not sure what you're trying to avoid with Diet Coke, but I'll tell you my method.
I make a 3x concentrate in my French press with Trader Joe's Organic French roast. Dilute with water and keep in the fridge. Then I pour over ice and add oatmilk or an oatmilk creamer. You could also just buy the bottles of cold brew at the store.
Torani makes a lot of syrups and flavors to add to your coffee at home, if that's your thing.
If you're trying to get away from added sugars or things like that, none of this is helpful. 😂

This is our favorite way of making iced coffee. We do half the recipe/method and it usually lasts us a week in the fridge. We use papertowels to strain it.
I prefer my own. I usually fill a carafe with water, two bags of good breakfast tea and two bags of an accent tea (often earl grey) and set that out back in the sun for a few hours.
Let it steep overnight in the fridge, then add 2-3 times milk and water to 2-4 oz of your coffee concentrate. I like more of a latte than an iced coffee, so I usually do 4 oz coffee, 8 oz milk, 4 oz water plus simple syrup. My BF does half the amount of milk because he actually likes coffee.
I got this iced coffee maker this spring and I love it. I just use regular coffee grounds and add water. Let it sit in the fridge overnight and then pour it over a little sugar, add ice and milk. It's awesome and so simple!!

I love iced coffee (obvi lol), but I'm wondering if that's really the best thing to fill the hole. Coffee has a lot more caffeine than Diet Coke. Iced Tea or flavored seltzer might be a better replacement. You can't really sip on iced coffee all day. You'll be bouncing off the walls eventually.
With that said, I think cold brew is a tasty and good option. Lots of recipes online or just buy the concentrate from Trader Joes.

Soda… fake sugars… the shit that makes my MIL say it’s no wonder I’ve had strokes and cancers. Something not in an AL can. Pretty much everything about it. I cannot type out loud how much Diet Coke I drink. But, we usually buy two flats at Costco at a time.

Well, Diet Coke is the most caffeinated of the sodas. 34mg a can. But it is less than coffee. Maybe a coffee in the morning and one in the afternoon 🤷♀️ It’s an idea, work in progress. I will see what happens. But, need caffeine and coffee is less terrible than sodas… probably. Cheaper at least?
A few months ago, I had surgery, and that was the clue of just how much I need caffeine. Without it, I could hardly process what they were telling me. But, not cutting it out cold turkey.

If you’re looking for something to drink all day I second tea. Green tea is great with antioxidants too & you can cold brew it too.
There’s also fruity teas that might give you some sweet.
Personally this time of year I really like chai (and use vanilla oat milk for that too). And adding milk makes it not too hot IMO. You can start with sugar & then slowly decrease until your tastes normalize. I used to need sugar in my coffee & tea but just slowly decreased & now I prefer it without on a regular basis.

Oh I agree your body is probably craving caffeine, but just a heads up that you probably won't be able to drink like 5 iced coffees in a row without getting the trots. LOL Coffee for sure makes me more jittery than soda ever would. I usually stick to 1-2 and then switch to something like flavored seltzer, iced tea or...wine.
This is unpopular, but I hate cold brew. I vastly prefer a regular drip coffee stored in the fridge and poured over ice. Also cold brew has more caffeine then drip coffee so it would be harder for me to continuously drink without feeling like I'm about to have a heart attack.
My favorite thing is a flavoured creamer from coffee mate or international delight. Sweet Italian cream and hazelnut are my favorites. Just ice, coffee, and that. The creamers are a ton of calories and sugar though so idk if it's really a great substitute.
I have been on and off the Diet Coke wagon over the years. When I can get myself off, I find that it tastes weird and artificial when I first go back to it. I don't sub coffee (iced or hot) for Diet Coke, I generally do water or seltzer. It's definitely healthier than Diet Coke! I still drink coffee in the morning, so I"m not going cold turkey on caffeine.

Oh, I do settler water, too. So I can bounce around with that, too. I just know I can’t quit the Diet Coke habit without replacing the caffeine (tried and failed). And I’ve realize that a good portion of my problem is the temp of beverages. I’m quirky and particular.

Have you tried the AHA or Bubly with caffeine? They're both good. I like Sunshine, too. I love coffee (hot or iced) but sometimes a fizzy drink is just better

Oooo…. Although, I’d kind of like to get away from single serve beverages. But I do uses Nuun tablets in water when I’m away from Diet Coke sources (looking at you Norwegian Cruise Lines)
First off, I’m lazy. I do iced concentrate with milk, water, and torani or monin syrup. I currently use Cool Brew (https://coolbrew.com) but I’ve tried others. When I was drinking more, I used this: Top Roast Colombian Coffee | Ultimate 64:1 Coffee Concentrate | Makes 100 Cups | Includes Pre-Measured Pump | 15.2 Fl Oz | Just add 1 pump to water or milk www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZPHJY5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_7S0ZSYD4MZ6R436VSS6N?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I do cold brew in a filtered jug or pour over into mason jars. I prefer soda and I’m guessing like you like cold drinks. Cold brew is easy and doesn’t give me heartburn.
Thai iced coffee might be good for you if you don’t love plain coffee. It’s sweet and IMO more filling for lack of a better word. Easy to sip.
But they all have real sugar, not sure if that is a plus or minus. I’ve been kind of alternating between coffee and Coke Zero since the pandemic started to stretch my coke reserves so I get you lol

Same! I don't hate cold brew, but I was always fine with just regular drip coffee from the fridge with half and half.
OP, I don't like sweet coffee, but my husband does. In Covid we started using our Nespresso a ton more. Every morning, I make two shots for each of us--I do the short pull on the machine for shots of espresso. In the bottom of his glass, I first put some caramel sauce. I think I have Ghirardelli from Amazon right now. They sell mocha/chocolate sauce too. Then I add ice, then most of the way to top with skim milk and a splash of half-and-half for more cream texture. Basically an easy home iced latte. It's so good.
I'm on decaf now due to TTC, and it is still just as good. I don't think Nespresso has a ton of caffeine, as I didn't get caffeine headaches when I made the switch, and back in the before times, if I tried to quit my daily iced americano from Starbucks, my head wanted to die.

I make it in my french press and then put it in the fridge. I am a weirdo and throw that in with almond milk, vanilla protein powder and usually some spinach for my morning coffee on the way into work.
I brew my Keurig or pour hot coffee I've brewed directly into this. It chills it within minutes. Pour it over ice and you're done. It's only large enough for a single serving at a time, but it works for me.
My H did not drink coffee until his forties. He is also a cold drink person. His gateway coffee was Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, no milk, one Splenda and one sugar free flavor shot. At home he brews flavored coffees like hazelnut and vanilla bean.
I prefer DD coffee to Starbucks.
Back in college, I got into drinking coffee after a few late nights of strong black coffee. I shocked my taste buds a few times. Then I added some milk and was all “this is delicious!”.

I’m a diet cola addict too and don’t care that much for coffee. My drink of preference is an iced chai latte with non-dairy milk. They are not all created equal though and some places that make good coffee don’t make the best ones. Starbucks is decent, although on the sweeter side.
I also like espresso with non-dairy foam. I think Americans don’t like tea as much as the British because they don’t make it correctly. Don’t leave the tea bag in! Add sugar and cream! Cream and sugar make coffee much more palatable to me too.
Add sugar (though a simple syrup mixes better) and dilute with water/milk/cream/creamer.
Before I went to the filter I linked, I always had to pour the last of the coffee through a pour-over with paper filter. Now it's still a little "muddy" at the bottom, but not as bad, and not enough to feel I'm "wasting" that last tiny bit and toss it instead of filtering it.
I don’t have any tips on making a true iced coffee. I usually buy it at Dunkin but usually I’m being cheap and end up buying hot coffee since the iced is more. I’m here to commiserate. I have a new addiction to Cherry Diet Pepsi which replaced my 15 year Diet Dr. Pepper addiction. I also drink coffee throughout the day so it doesn’t do a good job replacing the soda. I prefer hot coffee.
I need less stress and some balance in my life to quit both or at least get down to only 1 reasonable cup of coffee a day. During phases when I’ve quit, I’ve gotten into hot herbal teas. I’m trying to get more into drinking black coffee too so I can do some intermittent fasting.

Don't make it with tepid water. Ugh. For some reason it has to be HOT or sun tea. Both of those work. But the tepid carafe of swill water available for tea making beside the tea bags at many places makes awful tea.
My tip is to have a dedicated ice cube tray you fill with coffee and freeze. H likes ices coffee in the summer but hates the watered down taste of ice. Using the coffee ice cubes, he loves it.
