Ok, I’m very cautious about covid-I’ll start there. We didn’t go to Christmas last year while everyone else in the family got together because the only nonvaxed person would have been my DS. On to now-we skipped fairs and other fall events we normally go to, we’ve eaten inside a restaurant exactly twice since the start of Covid and we don’t go to gatherings inside.
My DS school has had several cases of Covid including 4 in his classroom. DS wears a mask even though a lot of kids don’t. The last exposure in his class was on Oct 4-5th. We’re supposed to see my 98 yr old Grandma tomorrow at a restaurant (her choice). I didn’t test DS because I thought he had Covid, I just did it out of an abundance of caution and yesterday was the only appt I could get for a non symptomatic test. They told me it would take 24-48 hrs. It might come back yet tomorrow morning but I’m not entirely sure. As of right now it says it hasn’t been received by the lab. I told my aunt out of full disclosure because I can see DS telling everyone since I administered the test. I didn’t think it was that big of a deal since I didn’t have to have him tested and he is not sick and today would have been 10 days since exposure (he doesn’t sit by the kids who did get sick either).
I haven’t seen my grandma since July and out of everyone in my family, I’d say I am the most cautious about Covid. She herself has been around some of my anti-vax cousins. But now my aunt is making me feel like I ruined the lunch and shouldn’t come. (It was specifically so that my family could see my grandma)
Am I wrong for thinking it’s still ok to go or do I need a negative test first?
Oh sorry…I was thinking vaccination, but I meant the only one going anywhere (everyone was working from home besides DS going to school) It feels like this has been going on for 10 years
Update….my aunt got my grandma all freaked out now so she cancelled. My aunt still wants to meet with just her…I said no. Like seriously? It’s not ok for my DS to be around her but you’ll come by us and then go be around her right after? I’m not dealing with stupid.
I'm admittedly kind of confused about why your Aunt is upset. Is she upset because you tested your DS? Or is she upset because he was potentially exposed? Anyway, if he is 11 days past exposure with no symptoms, I would go without a second thought, even if you don't have the results back in time.
Our school districts rule is 10 days past exposure, so I would go. I'm sorry, we missed a visit with my mom this month because we were only on day 5 after the exposure. But that was the first day we'd be able to test!!

Yeah I'm definitely confused about your aunt being upset.
Can you go get a home rapid test from Walgreens or CVS? The Binax Abbott tests are very good. I think you are fine but if you want to be really sure you could do that.

We got it done at Walgreens but they said they are behind.
I don't really understand what's going on and why so many people are upset, but why not just reschedule for next week? The test will be back by then and he'll be even further out from the exposure date.

I meant an at home rapid test kit. You do the test yourself and it gives you the results in 15 mins. A lot like a pregnancy test. They can be hard to find lately, but I have had good luck looking online at where the kits are available at walgreens locations around me first and then ordering for curbside pick up. The pick up is usually available within an hour after you order.

I’m so confused. Are you saying that you think your aunt shouldn’t have lunch with your grandma?
Obviously you’d have been fine to take your son to lunch based on the exposure being 10 days out; at least at the same risk level as you’d be taking him any other time (both the risk of him catching it during lunch or transmitting asymptomatically). Your aunt seems to possibly be overreacting but I’m not sure what she’s upset about.
I saw the update but we all just had Covid. 2/3 kids had zero symptoms. I’m even more convinced more kids are positive then we even know bc so many are asymptomatic.
