Fox News host Tucker Carlson mocked Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Thursday for taking paternity leave following the birth of his adopted twins.
"Pete Buttigieg has been on leave from his job since August after adopting a child. Paternity leave, they call it. Trying to figure out how to breastfeed, no word on how that went," Carlson said on his prime-time show.
....
The comments from Carlson, whose employer has a six-week paternity leave policy, come as his own colleagues have praised the very policy he criticized.
“Now I am pro-paternity. I used to mock people for taking paternity, I used to think it was a big ruse, but now, ya know, I wish I could take six weeks," fellow Fox News host Jesse Watters said in mid-April. Watters took time off following the birth of his third child.
Earlier this year, “Fox & Friends First” co-host Todd Piro also said that he would be taking off six weeks through the company’s paternity leave.
On top of being sexist and homophobic, that comment boils my biscuits because newborns are a HUGE amount of work, no matter how you choose to feed them. Especially twins! Especially if you want to, yanno, BOND with them.

He's not MIA, assholes, he's with his family.
And I’m almost positive that he is still reachable by text and email.
I sure as hell won’t be breastfeeding since we’re going through surrogacy. I’m not even going to have my gestational carrier pump milk. Guess I’m not a real mom or anything.
Man i read that as misogynist without realizing he was talking about a gay father. It seemed to me he was basically calling any dad that wants to stay home and bond with their newborn a woman - in a derogatory manner.
But damn - adding the context that he's gay. So nasty.
I feel so sorry for his children. To have such a disgusting asshole for a dad - and all the world knows... ick.

What a disgusting human.
I had to travel for work this week, and could see the screen of a man in front of me on the plane. He was watching Fox News and it was Tucker Carlson and a series of slides of things going wrong that just said Blame Biden. Supply Chain issues...Blame Biden! Southwest canceling flights...Blame Biden! And then something about Biden's war on Christmas. D'oh k. I am pretty sure I laughed out loud.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
This is like when my father-in-law told me he really admired working women since they work all day and then have sole responsibility for housework once they got home. I told him that wasn't how my relationship with his son worked. This man was a treasure trove of similar stories and loved watching Fox News.
Even beyond the obvious homophobia and misogynism in these comments - I so clearly remember the first time I was alone with my twin babies for a full day, when they were 4 weeks old. The idea of one parent of any gender having to manage that on their own from day 1 sounds so miserable.
And I’m sure if Buttigieg had declined to take paternity leave, Carlson et al. would be screaming that he’s a deadbeat father who has abandoned his family.
Also … all these people screaming about how it’s the Biden Administration’s fault that overseas goods aren’t making it to our store shelves, aren’t these also largely the same people who scream that we should Buy American!!! ? And how Jesus Is The Reason for the Season but they’re devastated that they can’t buy cheap crap for Christmas gifts?
This is such bullshit. We need men, especially men in high-level positions to take paternity leave. It moves childbirth/adoption/family building from being a woman’s issue to being something important for all workers. It’s fantastic that a cabinet secretary is taking paternity leave.
How about the fact that someone needs to take care of the baby? Just meet the basic needs of the baby. Who does he think is doing that 24/7?
There are two babies, they obviously can just take care of each other.
I hate these sideways talking people. Like save the unborn babies at all costs but don’t think about taking time off to care for them when they are born.

Ya know who are making most of the negative comments on all the posts on Twitter and FB? Men. Of, course. And it says so much about male culture in a lot of the US. (note, men are idiots in England too but we're all about having time off here so it wouldn't be as much an issue, I think).

Matt Walsh, a waste of the carbon that composes him, doesn’t even realize that he revealed what an absolute trash ass father he is with that tweet. “Not much to do for dad” = “newborn babies are mom’s job.” You fucking dolt.

What was the reaction in the UK when Tony Blair took paternity leave?
I remember the press here in the being split when they reported on it.
