Ya know who are making most of the negative comments on all the posts on Twitter and FB? Men. Of, course. And it says so much about male culture in a lot of the US. (note, men are idiots in England too but we're all about having time off here so it wouldn't be as much an issue, I think).
What was the reaction in the UK when Tony Blair took paternity leave?
I remember the press here in the being split when they reported on it.
I don't remember, tbh, but overall, it's not even close to as big a deal as it would be in the US. I mean maternity leave is meant to be guaranteed for a year here and paid, at least partially, for six months, but paternity leave is only 2 weeks (and you do get paid a small sum by the gov't during this time).

Did you all see that Lance Bass and his husband also became parents recently? So, so sweet. They've been trying for so long and I'm so happy they got to finally bring babies home.

I haaaaate Matt Walsh. Hate. And I hate very few people. Thanks for letting me know only people that use their vaginas and breasts should get parental leave. What a piece of shit, truly.
The article I saw on FB, people were saying he shouldn't be taking leave right now because the country is in turmoil and he needs to be working. This whole "prolife" but anti family thing a lot of conservatives have going on is something else.

Did you post this in the wrong thread? It seems completely irrelevant here unless I'm missing something in that article.
No, I found it relevant in that another gay couple became parents and are going through similar things to Pete and Chasten. Not necessarily being dragged by Tucker Carlson, thankfully, but trying to normalize gay couple adoption/parenting.

I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. It's not relevant just because both are gay couples, and it's offensive that you think that's a reason. This isn't a general happy thread for all the recent gay parents--being dragged by Carlson and his ilk is the crux of the issue being discussed.

I apologize.
I wasn't trying to make this a 'happy' thread - Tucker and Matt are horrible people and shouldn't have a platform from which to spew their hatred. Period.
On top of being sexist and homophobic, that comment boils my biscuits because newborns are a HUGE amount of work, no matter how you choose to feed them. Especially twins! Especially if you want to, yanno, BOND with them.
He's not MIA, assholes, he's with his family.
@@@@@@@@@@
Yup. I was thinking that as I read his fucking homophobic remarks. Newborn twins are no.fucking.joke. I literally don't remember that first year with the twins because I was so sleep deprived. It is awful, lol
I lol'd at his two colleagues saying they took leave and will take leave. He is fucking awful.

I just saw Buttigieg on CNN last week doing interviews about our supply chain problems. So it doesn’t seem like he’s as truly “MIA” as he’s being portrayed.
So Carlson (and his ilk) are not only hateful and bigoted, but also flat-out wrong (per usual). Fake news!!
I’m a fucking nobody with nothing important to do, and people from my job still reach out when I’ve got a day off. I’m sure a Cabinet Secretary isn’t completely unreachable when he’s on paternity leave, if he’s needed. I’m sure he’s at least getting semi-regular briefings.
OmG…. Seeing that they’re dealing with the NICU (and maybe one in and one out??) makes me so much more angry at all the haters earlier this month. Those one in and one out days were the worst of preemie twin parenting.
