Everyone in my house woke up in a MOOD this morning, what the hell?! It’s a beautiful day and we all have plans. H and lucy are going record shopping, and I’m going to a craft show with my sister while David hangs with my dad. Cheer up, chucklefucks!
Love this! Smitten Kitchen has a savory version I make at Christmas but I've only ever used frozen puff pastry. I attempted it because Trader Joe's had something like it that I loved and would eat half of regularly and then they discontinued it. Yours looks amazing!
Haven't seen my 15yo in days! He went to school all day Friday, I ran errands and barely saw him before dropping him off at a friend's Friday night for a sleepover. They were going to a college football game yesterday, then he asked to go to a fall party with the friend's family. Apparently some football teammates and his coaches were going as well so he wanted to go and the mom said he could just sleep over again since they'd be back late....I miss his face. lol.
My mom just suggested her solution for a reduced number COVID Thanksgiving this year is that my parents come to my house for brunch and they then go to my brother's for Thanksgiving dinner, while we have our own dinner here with my ILs. Thanksgiving... brunch? And also no thank you very much to me making two large meals that day while everyone else relaxes. WTH?
We went to Home Depot this morning, unloaded the pebbles for the back patio (no rock yards had what we wanted!), and now I am relaxing with the pups and my chai latte.
DH went back to get some black gravel for the area we've designated for the new trash enclosure. He prepped it yesterday, and we put down some weedcloth and some of those snap together plastic grids that you fill with gravel to make a really strong base. We used them under our storage sheds and under the solar panels, and had just the right amount leftover to do this project.
A few weeks ago we installed new ceiling fans on our covered porch. I was going to put the remotes in one of the new cabinets that we have out there, but I wanted to find some kind of bin or tray for then first, so I told DH where I was going to put them in the meantime, and we both forgot where I put them.
I really needed to start keeping a list...my 'safe places' are often so safe that I can't find them. lol
TBM when you can would love to see photos of your court yard. I've enjoyed reading about it on the Home board.
I will post pictures when we get everything moved in...or at least get something in besides just the pergola.
We're still missing a back fence, and stuff is crammed on both the deck and porch while we're figuring out where it all goes, but I'll see if I can find an 'in progress' photo to post when I get chance.

Do you have any photos to share. Honestly I really want instructions. LOL Between neighbors trees bombarding our yard with acorns, shade and roots everywhere and our giant dog, we are in a constant battle all over our property. I want to get rid of as much grass as possible, but do it in a nice way. Were there any websites you used for inspiration or instruction?

I’d tell them you are happy to host if they cater brunch!
I wrote a novel about all the shit that is stressing me out right now and then deleted it.
I am taking some time off the second week of November and I cannot freaking wait. I’m just going to hang out at home and relax and it will be glorious.
Also, I got a paper cut on my palm getting a box off a shelf at ikea today and it really hurts. The palm is not a great place for a cut.
I was going to check in and see what happened with your MIL - are you home?
Not to be a creepy internet stalker - just a lot of what you post resonates. I’ve realized that after living for 20 months in such heightened stress with work, my cortisol levels must be off the charts and my fundamental biology has changed. I run more anxious than I ever did in the beforetimes and my capacity/resilience for stress is greatly diminished. But the stress keeps coming so…it’s not a great match.

Right? I'm going to see if I can negotiate them coming by for pie and coffee. We live 5 minutes from them and see each other every weekend, so it's not even like it's some dramatic "the one day we can be together" or something.
I have a friend who hosts something called "Pie Day" on Black Friday where all her family and friends bring leftover pie from their distributed celebrations and that's all they have for dinner. That I can get behind.

Are you talking about the gravel grid? We saw some videos on YouTube a long time ago, and DH decided to try some on some small projects to see if it might work for something on our front yard in the future.
We didn't do anything much to prep... just leveled it out and put down weedcloth, the grid, then the gravel. We have support sandy soil that drains really well, but I think there are more steps if you need more drainage.

I love this! Also, I need someone to post a gif of Dean from Supernatural. I would do it myself, but I'm on my phone. ...pie...

After catching three stray cats on my front step with my wildlife camera on Thursday night, I thought I'd see if I could start getting the cats to come by regularly so I could catch them (shelter or spay/neuter/release). And got this...
(opossum)
And this...
(fox)
And this...
(Pepe Le Pew)
Yeah, I don't think there's any chance I'll catch those cats any time soon.

OMG Wallflower! They’re like thanks for the snacks!
We attempted to go to a winery yesterday afternoon. We got there and it was shoulder to shoulder people indoors, no masks anywhere. My DH and I looked at each other and about-faced it out of there. I haven’t seen indoor crowds like that in almost 2 years and I was not about to do it for a taste of wine.
We finished our weekend away this morning and got home just after lunch time. We’re doing laundry and all the Sunday-scaries prep work this afternoon. I needed that weekend away and even though I’m not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow I’m in a slightly better headspace than I was on Thursday.

Today is the most perfect fall weather. We drove to explore two national wildlife refuges about an hour away. They were beautiful and we got to see white Pelicans, cranes, and several migratory birds taking flight.
Didn’t get any of my cleaning or the mowing done but oh well. I’m so sick of just doing chores and errands every weekend and nothing just for fun so this weekend we prioritized fun. We’ll mow after work tomorrow and it’ll be OK.
For the past two years or so people in my area have been posting on Nextdoor about Joro spiders. They're an invasive species from Japan. Not poisonous but big and very good at reproducing.
I'd seen pictures but had never seen any in real life so I was like meh, whatever. Welp, we have one in our backyard now. Granted our yard is not very big. It's the width of our town home which is maybe 20 feet (I'm horrible at judging size and distance so don't hold me to that lol).
Guys... the web spans our entire backyard. It's connected at the top to the gutters (two stories up) and then stretches across to the trees in the back. I cannot get over how big this thing is. And beautiful! When the sun hits the web it shines like gold.
But it's so freaking BIG. Pictures don't do I justice. Also, I'm really glad we've already cleaned up our patio garden, because that space belongs to the Joro now 😅
Ugh. We have been hit in the last month with spotted lantern flies, also an invasive species. I had a fb memory from four years ago about them, never saw one till about three months ago, first one about a month ago at our house. I killed about 60 yesterday. They’re huge and gross and fast and they’re killing everything.
