Is this for your own family (as in will stay in your house from year to year) or to give to others?
Just for my own family. I have 3 kids. One Santa believer. We could lay them out the night before. She’s super gullible. We can write to Santa and ask him to use them and she will be fine.
Got it. Then I would make them. I think would be easy to make similar to a pillow case. But if you were giving them away then I wouldn’t want to invest the time and $$.
I bought a bunch of ChicoBag shopping bags back when we were getting married to use for our hotel guest welcome bags. They were on deep sale for like $1.25 each at the time. I kept one for myself and I still use it 11 years later - I like how it folds down small and I can keep it in my purse. There are many other brands that do the same thing: chicobag.com/collections/new-products/products/chicobag-original-earth
Family members tend to buy Amazon things for my kids, and get it gift wrapped in these bags. I save the bags and have been using them for Christmas and birthdays because I’m about done with wrapping paper too.
I've made so many holiday pillowcases that we started using those a few years ago, best decision ever. My kids were no longer believers at the time, and I even asked if they minded- they were totally on board.
ETA: And yes, fancy/trimmed fpillowcases are probably "tougher" than simple sacks (and they're totally beginner projects). I have a serger, though, it definitely cuts down on time.

I don’t have a link but I have a couple I think were from Target. They are almost shirt box size and have a draw string closure. One is white canvas with a cute phrase and the other is flannel plaid. The style would be really easy to make.
Buy plain brown Kraft paper (we generally do recycled and eco-friendly if possible), and let your kids use them for art over the next couple months. Then you can use that to wrap presents. There is still waste, but I feel a little better because it started out recycled, was used to entertain the kids, and then before throwing away it was used again. Not perfect though.
My mom has also sewn and used simple cotton sacks with a drawstring top. They're really cute!
I have a bunch of paper holiday gifts bags and I keep reusing them every year. I fold them up and store them inside one larger bag at the top of a closet. I also save birthday bags and reuse them too. Kids haven’t noticed yet and some of them are 5 years old now.

This is what we do in my family as well and have done since I was a kid. Even with extended family.

I do this with gift bags as well. Buy brown Kraft paper ones and have the kids decorate. Cheap and available in bulk.
