Our psycho cat had his annual checkup on Saturday and it's the first time I've brought him in without sedation. Because he's a pain to medicate, it makes him sick sometimes and I just didn't want to deal. I just warned them that he was a beast and they'd need an extra hand, and surprisingly it went well with the big rubber gloves and a towel. I was kind of joking with the vet about how grumpy he can be and how he'll hop up to be pet only to growl and jerk away when we do, and it was as she was feeling him all over. She noted that when she touched a certain area on his spine his skin rippled and he got really agitated, and she feels he has chronic nerve pain in that spot. Apparently cats who have this get worse after age 6, and he's 7 now and definitely has gotten grumpier with age. It hurts not only when touched but just all the time, I feel so bad he could have been in that much pain all this time, and probably bringing him in sedated before supressed that response he had to being touched so they never noticed it. We started giving him low-dose Gabapentin that night and he takes it twice a day. Me and H both swear he seems much happier and is much more engaged with the family and not always hanging in the basement now. Giving him the meds is a chore and I can't believe I may have to this the rest of his life, but I'll do it if it makes him feel better. Also, that monster is nearly 20 lbs now omfg.
devonpow WOWWWWWW! being from the same general area that is really surprising! I can only imagine the shitshow on FB over it, would be the same if something like that went down around my area. I think that practice is going to regret that decision big time.
it’s crazy! And I think people are upset because no one even thought to ask - it’s so incomprehensible here that a pediatric medical facility wouldn’t require vaccines!

Right and they're over here taking the don't ask don't tell approach!! This could very well shut them down, what an irresponsible health care provider!

devonpow - I know you didn't mean to stir the pot but please ignore the negative people and know you made an impact. There are likely other high risk families that had no clue either and you providing it was major (whether they post it or not).

I joined the masters swim team on a whim last night and did my first practice this morning. I swam more than I have in years. Fingers crossed I can stick to this. The people were all very welcoming and nice.
I had an amazing weekend with my bf. Got to enjoy some cooler temps and see fall colors. My flight home was delayed and I was sure I’d miss my connection but landed with 20 minutes until my next flight so decided to run for it. I was sooooo happy to make it as the alternative would have been 8 hours in the ATL airport waiting for the next available flight.
I’m hosting Thanksgiving for the smallest group I’ve ever hosted (just 5 of us total). I’m actually super excited because it means I can use my good china and glassware and actually seat everyone at the table.
DD1 is in 8th grade (14 years old). She's been "talking" to a boy from another school (also 14 years old and in 8th grade). He's a friend of her best guy friend and I guess this is this generation's version of dating. Whatever.
Apparently he was "dating" a girl before DD, she broke up with him, but she got jealous when he started talking to my DD. So, IN A CAR FULL OF TEENAGE GIRLS, her MOM stalked our name on FB and found ME! She was apparently looking for pics of DD? One of the girls in the car told the boy who then told DD (because everyone thought it was seriously creepy). I am kind of dumbfounded. 1. That an adult would engage in this ridiculous behavior 2. That she would do it in front of other children
Am I nuts for thinking this is totally weird?
There is plenty of room for confusion in that communication chain. Take one step out and assume it was the kid, using her mom's phone (and Facebook app), who looked you up on Facebook and I can completely see it. 8th graders have no sense of boundaries. Or the mom is whackadoodle. Or something else was happening that got miscommunicated.
DS (10) flat out beat me and DH, both writers, at Scrabble last night. I'm so proud of the academic progress he's made in the past year.
(About a year ago, he was diagnosed with ADHD plus a fleet of LDs, math and reading/spelling. He really slid back during the pandemic but he had a great report from his classroom teacher and his tutor on Friday.)
That's great! We played Boggle this weekend. I love that game and they bought it for me for my birthday. My 11 year old found "noir" and I was ridiculously proud. And I DID NOT have that as one of my words. LOL
My cat has fleas 😫 I called the vet today but they can’t see her until the 30th so I’m going to Petsmart on my lunch to buy some advantage and some stuff for our area rugs to vacuum up. I’m also going to wash all of her bedding and ours. I have no idea how she could have gotten fleas, she doesn’t go outside.
We had this issue once with our indoor-only cat. Best I could figure is we tracked them in from outside or something. It was tough getting rid of them, you can give them a pill from the pet store (maybe it's called Capstar?) that will kill all the adult fleas on the cat, but they key is combing them after with a flea comb to get any eggs (blech) that remain and vaccuming often and thoroughly. When I would comb him I couldn't believe how many we would pull off (again BLECH).
I had no idea we could bring them in. Yuck! Well, I am off to Petsmart to buy everything. Ugh! Poor cat.
sweetchix - What the hell is that?! I would've been so freaked out as a hs kid by that.
Right?!? Then, years later, I was with my BIL and he had to swing by a friend’s house really quick. It happened to be their house. The gf had an older sister, who was actually very nice. Anyway, the mom came out and was all nice and sweet to me. I wish I would have had the guts to tell her who I was but I didn’t.

We have Girl Scouts tonight and we’re doing the my family story badge. I made my grandma’s peanut brittle and am going to bring her measuring cup to share with the girls. One of my other scouts is bringing pizzelles, which, omg, I could eat a mountain of those things. I’m excited to see what the other girls bring.
Fully expecting to have to have them roll me to my car like I’m Violet Beauregard after all is said and done.

gummybear, that's insanity, but i've always said the worst part of parenting is other parents. People are crazy and it definitely doesn't seem to be getting any better.

I'm going to take care of my not yet born nephew in July, he'll be approximately 3 months then. What shots do I need boosters for? I got my Tdap back in September along with my Flu shot. Got my Covid booster last month. Anything else I'm forgetting?

Can someone remind me who are GBCN therapists and doctors are? I do not want medical advice but would like their opinion about a type of program <3 wanderingback you may even know so I'm sending you a DM too. If any of you are uncomfortable answering please feel free to say so, I totally understand.

Unless they recommend another COVID booster, lol, you should be covered. TDAP was the big one when I was PG and by 3m he'll have his 2m shots done.
Can I vent for a minute? I'm so tired of pouring money into our house. On Friday we found out our 16 year old furnace is on the verge of becoming a fire or carbon monoxide hazard. So we have to replace that and the HVAC along with it. And because the water heater vents into the same pipe as the furnace which vents into the chimney, we have to replace that too. And to replace it with an electric water heater we have to install a larger circuit panel and possibly upgrade the electrical service. It's like if you give a mouse a cookie
Our elementary school is sending 6th graders to Outdoor Ed tomorrow. They require a Covid test 72 hours before and are offering them at the school today. One of my friend daughter did hers this weekend and it came back positive. I can’t imagine the sh*tshow that’s going on over at the school today, with trying to figure that all out.

I empathize. We've had the garage door, furnace, washer and dryer all give up in the past two months.
We got woken up 5 minutes before my H's alarm was to go off because our power went out, which kicked on the generator (which is right under our bedroom) and also turned on the nightlight feature on his cheapo alarm clock. The power then immediately came back on about a minute later.
It's stormy AF today, with pouring rain, lots of wind, and the Puget Sound has been under a flood watch for days now. And I have to go to Costco this afternoon. Fun!
But my plan is to leave around the same time my H has to leave to go pick is mom up from her appointments, and then make a quick stop at the dollar store, followed by dragging out my Costco trip for hours, followed by an unnecessarily long Pelostack, and then a long shower and a 20 minute face mask, because my goal is to spend at the least amount of time with MIL as possible. She's been here less than 24 hours and she's already on my nerves, and I have to survive her visit until Saturday morning. :: cries ::
My DD learned about the store Learning Express on Tik Tok and has been really wanting to go so yesterday we went to the one closest to us which is in Ohio but only about 1.5 hours away. Somewhat silly to drive that far just for a store but it was a fun outing and she was happy to cross it off her bucket list. And I did find a few Christmas presents so that was a win for me.
We picked up a crap ton of leaves on Saturday we were laughing about the fact that we dropped a not small amount of money on tree removal this past year and we still have so many leaves. I do love having the trees in my yard but the clean up is obnoxious.

Our county is flooding after a huge rainstorm all weekend and a windstorm that's starting now. Schools are canceled and it's a mess trying to get around with all the roads closed. The kids are bouncing off the walls after being inside all weekend and without anything to do today.

We put a deposit down on a puppy so we have a sweet little shih tzu girl coming to us in 3 weeks. I celebrated by crying over my Lola, ordering customized Christmas ornaments (1 for the dogs we lost and 1 for the ones we will have at Christmas), and ordering the puppy a collar that matches a dress I made dd so they will have matching outfits. Ridiculous but I don’t care at all.
Buying a new construction house is cool. But it’s very annoying for your street not to exist on any map apps. No one can find our house. I tried pinning my location and sending that and they still ended up a street over.
The puppy has been itching at night. The vet gave us steroids (which say to increase urination, WTF) and a whole bag of special food.
We JUST SWITCHED foods from the breeder to the one the vet recommended. And now another switch. DH was trying to figure out how we know what the issue is if she hasn't been on new food long enough since being with us. No one could answer the question.

See if you can get your "titres checked". I did a few years ago and found out I had little to no measles immunity (working at a university where there was a measles outbreak among international students). I also learned when giving birth that I had no Hep B immunity (apparently they checked into that for whatever reason). So I got boosters even though I'd been vaccinated as a kid.
Also look into whooping cough. Mine was included with tetanus (which I was due for anyway) and was standard practice to give to moms, dads and even grandparents.
devonpow MFers need to be called out, don't feel bad! You're doing a public service to the community!
devonpow, good for you! I never even thought to ask our pedi dentist office. I just assumed everyone is vaxxed! I will be asking before our next visit, so thx for that.
