But it’s kind of weird it’s *specifically* a peloton. He could have been on any old treadmill, or something.
But bougie brand names are the show’s thing. Carrie could wear any fancy shoes, but we all know her penchant is for Manolos and Jimmy Choos. She could have just gotten a designer wedding outfit, but we all know it was Vivienne Westwood…and so forth, and so on. Of course it was a Peloton.
Well yes, but they’ve never had Carrie break a heel in her Manolos and fall in front of a taxi and die!

That wouldn’t have been the worst way to end that terrible second movie! 🤣🤣
I haven't watched yet, but will when I have some time to watch TV without my H. I always hated her relationship with Big and was disappointed that they ended up together. I guess it's a nice idea that he turned into a good husband for the last 15+ years, I guess, but he treated her like crap for most of the series and the idea that their love was so romantic was honestly a messed up message for women to consume. Maybe in her 50's she won't put up with that kind of treatment and will get into a healthy relationship from the start.
Yes, instead of a telltale cough they mentioned a nitroglycerin pill. It seemed depressing to me even before they offed him. Why is Steve doddering? And the writing? Carrie is a prude? Miranda goes off on someone for giving her teen pot and then she apologizes?!

When Susan Sharon mumbled under her breath at the funeral "Am I the only one that remembers what a PRICK he was to her?" I was like NO! I remember CLEARLY! lol

I don’t know if I think Carrie is a prude. In the first series she wrote publicly about relationships, but not explicitly about sex really. If I was on a podcast and someone asked me that question I would blush and demure. I’ll talk that stuff with close friends but for the public to hear in my own voice would be different.

I wonder if she’s still with the husband that screams at her.

She acted like she had never heard people talk about sex though. Never heard such words! It felt like they were just trying to make being old a whole point of the show. Like she was a grandma and the podcast convo was something that didn't happen in her day, when "I'm dating a guy with the funkiest tasting spunk" was normal brunch conversation for them.

But they were like “DO YOU MASTURBATE?!” I guess I just empathized with her that it felt more personal than I’d want to talk about to the masses (despite being a person who is fine having sex talk with people in the right setting)

I forgot about him! IIRC they got a dog and he suddenly stopped yelling, or so they led us to believe.

Maybe it's a window into her life over the years we haven't seen? Like she's more proper or subdued now? Samantha was the shocking one bringing stuff like that up, but Carrie was always able to respond in a funny way, while brushing off or not sharing details, whereas Charlotte would freak or walk out. Just to act like it was shocking to her that people could behave in such a way didn't seem true to me. But maybe this is the start of how Carrie got her groove back or something.
We rewatched the show during the pandemic so it's fresh for me. It just seems lime they're trying to make them act not like themselves.
So I was super into this show back in the day, but I can’t remember why aiden was so horrible. I have always thought John Corbett was super hot. I know this is a nonsensical comment lol.
Nah it was Carrie who was terrible. Aiden was adorable and she treated him like shit. It made me crazy that she had this perfect guy who was everything that Big wasn't, yet she kept going back to that toxic dumpster fire of a relationship over and over.
This is where I'm at. I just can't seem to get all that sad about killing off Big.
I also hated Carrie throughout the original series. I kind of wish the new show was without her instead of without Samantha haha.
Ohhhhhhh. See, I thought Peloton PAID for that and thought that was an odd move on their part.
One thing that was weird, these women are only in their 50's. They were talking like they were too old to know about podcasts and Instagram, I found that odd?
I guess it really depends....I'm 46 and I'd say about half the women I know my age aren't really into anything much newer than FB, so I think it could be feasible that women in their 50's might be a little resistant or uninterested in it. Carrie herself obviously needs those platforms to stay relevant but I can see how someone like Miranda might not have it on her radar. I only recently started giving podcasts a chance myself.
I’m 51 but I had my kids later in life, they are 12 and 15. Having teens/tweens help keep me up to date on tech and social culture. I feel like Charlotte and Miranda should both be “younger” since they have teenagers. I mean other that allowing the 17 yo girlfriend to sleep over. WTF was up with that?

I'm about a decade younger than the characters and lived in NYC during the show. There was always a "kids these days" / out of touch side to it. It might have been in regional references and not have jumped out to people living elsewhere.

Yes, Carrie used a land line way after most people were just using a cell phone. I remember thinking the show was a bit behind what people were really doing.
I haven’t seen the second episode, but I got the feeling from the first that they might be setting Miranda up to have a drinking problem. Stopping in a bar at 10:45 am, bringing wine in a bag to a piano recital- I know they were all about cosmos and cocktails in the original, but this just seemed more pointed? I don’t know.

I was actually going to mention that, what was the point of the 10:30am cocktail? I thought they were going somewhere with it in that episode, maybe you are onto something.
First, DH and I both agree the girl who plays Miranda looks amazing!
I guess the writers took the bit from "This Is Us" about the crock-pot, and now Pelaton is the culprit...wonder if these companies pay for these parts in the shows.
From what I read/heard Crockpot had no idea and was really upset because that’s always been a fear that customers have had and they’ve spent 50 years trying to overcome that. Especially since the cause of death was the focal point of the show for 2 years so people really paid attention.
I had heard the Pelaton knew they were going to be in it but not how. That’s something maybe they should have looked into! I did not hear that they paid for placement. I think the show was just trying to be topical/relevant since they became so mainstream popular the last couple of years.
Peloton says they knew the show featured a Peloton bike and that one of their real instructors (Jess King) was playing the character of instructor Allegra, they didn't know of the plot twist at all. Their stock dipped after the release!

I think it is odd since they live in NYC and have jobs that puts them in contact with so many people. I’d think it would be really hard to stay in the dark about it unless you tried. Podcasts have been around and fairly popular for about 15 years now and Instagram came out 11 years ago. They weren’t that old then either and had been working in media/offices/with other people/using the internet for a long time by then too.
My mom would have still been in her early 60s this year and she virtually never even went online (never had an office job or interest) but even she knew about podcasts and Instagram! She’d read about podcasts and suggest them to me all the time. Or we’d be out and I’d take a picture and she’d ask I if I was going to post it or ask to see a friend’s profile. It’s sort of basic being involved in the world at this point. But I guess some people will always be willfully unaware or very uninterested.
I have to admit I didn’t really watch the original show; they always seemed a little dated to me so maybe that’s their schtick?

I hated him. He "loved" her but wanted her to be a completely different person. Forcing her to go to the woods, all this stuff that she had zero interest in. He didn't seem to just respect who she was.

I second this. He was a “nice” guy, but he really didn’t know what she was about. He only saw what he wanted hr to be and fell in love with potential. Big wasn’t any better either, though. I don’t really care for Carrie as a character, tbh.
They are definitely setting Miranda up for a drinking problem storyline. I figure that when she walked into a bar alone at 10:45 before class. And marriage issues with Steve and possibly a love interest with Che. I think Charlotte's storyline is going to be about her relationship with her girls.
I have an UO. I couldn't stand Aiden. I don't know why. I get her thing with Big. The heart wants what it wants, even when it may not be the absolute best thing for you. /shrug

I felt the same way about Carrie toward Big. He showed her who he was and she kept hoping she could change him.

I felt like part of the reason why Miranda had both her experiences in the class and with Che at the funeral was because she was either tipsy or possibly drunk.
They showed her after the fight with Che with bourbon in her hand..

oh - that’s another one. The bar at the funeral wasn’t open but she made them give her a drink!
I’m 39 and have never listened to a podcast. I wouldn’t even know how to find a podcast if I wanted to listen to one 🤣 I do have instagram for my business but I’m not “good at it” 🤣 I listen to the radio, watch tv, and read books. I don’t own a kindle or iPad, and would definitely prefer a paper textbook if I was taking a class right now. I felt Miranda’s cringe moments rang very true.
I was dying because the bar Miranda went into was “Smith’s Bar”, I wonder if Samantha’s Smith will be there?!?!
I was not eager for the reboot but really liked it more than I thought I would.

Yes totally and the weird conversation with the bartender at the funeral. Considering the Big foreshadowing was not subtle, I am not expecting this to be either.
I’m just sad at how awful they all seem, like the word Karen come to life. I’m conflicted to how I feel about Big’s death. I think at the age they are coming to, it’s definitely a topic to explore and can make some really interesting commentary, but given the heaviness of the past two years I wouldn’t mind something funny and frivolous and witty either/
