My H is going to a college basketball tournament in Brooklyn, NY on Sunday at the Barclays Center (to watch as a fan). So, my DD and I have the opportunity to take the train or walk around Brooklyn on Sunday while he is watching games. We will all drive home together at around 5 pm. She loves exploring new places and since she is 13 yo, I wanted to capitalize on the possibility that she may enjoy walking around together, exploring, getting lunch.
It’s been a long time since I’ve done anything in Brooklyn. And it’s a big place. And I have no idea about what’s around the Barclays Center.
Can anyone recommend some ideas for a Sunday in December in Brooklyn?

I have no idea how close it is to the Barclay center and it involves leaving Brooklyn so maybe not the best idea but I absolutely love walking over the Brooklyn bridge.

Brooklyn Bridge isn’t too far so that’s a good suggestion. The Brooklyn Museum and the Botanic Garden aren’t too far from Barclays either and probably have some cool exhibits and holiday stuff going on. Just remember to bring vaccination proof.

I’m going to the same tournament on Sunday!
If either of you are big readers I’d suggest visiting Books Are Magic (Boerum Hill) or McNally Jackson (Downtown Brooklyn or Williamsburg).
Brooklyn Flea is in DUMBO on Sundays and you can easily go from there to Brooklyn Bridge Park which has great views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline.
The Dior exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum (Crown Heights) is AMAZING, but it might be too late to get tickets for tomorrow.
If either of you like vintage Greenpoint is a great neighborhood to explore, there are a lot of interesting shops there.
If you guys are driving you should be able to find street parking in any of these neighborhoods besides Downtown Brooklyn and DUMBO.
Ditto tacokick's suggestion of Four & Twenty Blackbirds. Their pie is fantastic. Doughnut Plant is really good too. I went their for their signature creme brulee donut and it wasn't my favorite but there were other flavors there that were really good.
The weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow - I would likely wander around Brooklyn Heights, have lunch, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge! Enjoy your day!
UPDATE: I always love an update, so here goes. Our day in Brooklyn was fabulous. We parked at the Barclays Center and my H had a great time watching the games. Purdue won in over time, “Boiler, Up!” My DD and I took the subway and walked over the Brooklyn Bridge from the Manhattan side. It was awesome!! Great weather, Beautiful views and lots of happy people. We bought fresh cut mangos from a lady copping them fresh, right on top of a box on the bridge.
Walked down Fulton Ave and did some shopping. DD got killer boots. Took a long walk through a few neighborhoods and found Four and Twenty Blackbirds for delicious pie. Headed back to the Barclays Center (0.2 miles from Four and Twenty Blackbirds) and got drinks, salad and jerk chicken at a fun Jamaican place.
It is remarkable how such a loosely planned day actually had the best timing in everything we did. Thanks for the recommendations!
