Usually by now I would have already had polls up for books to vote on for our monthly book club picks for the next year. However I have tended to use Goodreads Choice nominees to help gather books for those polls and I don't think I am the only one who thinks the picks this year were kind of garbage? So I don't know how to pick books for 2022, assuming other people want to continue the monthly book club tradition.
I agree about the picks this year on Goodreads. I wish I had a good suggestion for you. Maybe we all pick the top books we read this year (not necessarily published this year) that have not been a part of our monthly book club discussions and vote on that list.
Maybe we could add a couple books that we are most looking forward to for 2022 as well if we want to add some new books. Just throwing ideas out there. I would hate to not have a monthly discussion next year.
I agree that using Goodreads is probably not the best way to do it this year. The top picks were so random and weird!
I think we just pick ourselves. We can start a list of top books read in 2021 and have a few categories like fiction, non-fiction, thriller, etc (but not as specific as Goodreads gets). Maybe a want to read category, too. I'd keep it simple though and then after we get a list we can have a poll. I would ask ML, too, and hopefully we can get more participation here!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I've gone ahead and made two new discussions where people can add books to suggest, broken up by fiction and non-fiction.
I'll probably personally go through the 'best of' lists like that one above from bustle to see if any looks interesting to me and add those to our list of possibilities in those two threads.

I was going to ask if we're doing this. I was going to tell ufcasey, too that I'm going back through this year and last year's list to pick up more books I didn't get too. The lists help me keep on track with goal.
With that, can you name categories again and like you said we nominate books? If it's possible to do a couple that aren't incredibly new that helps, or make new ones later in the year so there's time to reserve.
Finally, I noticed the Celuan Sea or something on the Married Life list several times, not sure if that's a good one, but I'm putting it on my list.

There's two separate threads for recommending books (fiction and nonfiction) - I'll then make out some separate polls either tonight or tomorrow, but based on how many votes there are we might just pick 6 total books for now and then revote midway in the year for the rest of the year.
All the polls are now up. Some categories had more suggestions than others, so I allowed for additional votes for the larger categories. However you do not need to vote in every category and you do not have to vote the maximum number of times allowed for every category. The 12 books overall with the most votes will be selected for Book Club 2022. If we have some ties and end up with more than 12 books then I'll do an extra vote-off poll. Happy Voting! Voting ends at 12:01am Saturday 1/8.
