Finally posting pics - after 10 yrs of living w/a pretty lousy floor plan in a 1971 colonial, we did a pretty big reno on our primary bathroom, bedroom, and an office (the latter of which isn't done, I'll post when the cabinets come in). It turned into a bigger project than expected b/c we had to rip down the kitchen ceiling to reinforce the floor joists b/c the old plumbing made the old ones like swiss cheese. We relocated the plumbing stack on 3 floors, added a large window, etc. I did all the design and planning work. We moved a wall 2ft to make an almost 100 sq ft bathroom and closed off a door between that bedroom and the primary bath, and made that 5th bedroom (which got smaller) a dedicated office/laundry. We also opened up a reach in closet in our bedroom since we added a walk in w/the last reno, and relocated our attic hatch. The layout before was terrible, it's hard to describe what changed, but the before/afters should tell the story.
Before: view into the old bathroom (they had it subdivided w/a little wall and door):
after: Shade is from overstock, tub surround is quartz, tub is from durvit, floor squares marble are from Floor & decor, the rest of the marble is Volakas from Tile Shop
Old vanity (one of two, other is in the little room)
after: vanity is costco, hardware is pottery barn, mirrors & lighting is Ballard, wall color is BM classic gray, faucets are Brizo Baliza. There's a medicine cabinet on the left wall w/an outlet inside for my toothbrush - also outlets in the bottom drawer
Old shower/tub combo:
After: shower has 2 body jets, there's a hidden niche in the shower inside the end of the tub part
Just for frame of reference - the toilet area (where the old linen closet used to be).
Old bedroom closet:
After - niche, there's hidden storage behind that wall too - I use it for keepsakes. Wall color is a match of farrow & ball Dimity
Before bedwall:
After - sorry I didn't make my bed - I need new bedding too, and a bench for the end of the bed
I’m totally saving some of these pictures for when we do ours (probably in 15 years haha). Our bathrooms look to be about the same size but ours has such a dumb layout with so much wasted space, and I really want to fit a big tub in.
Very nice! How long did it take? We are planning to renovate our upstairs bathroom soon. It will be much smaller but we do want to slightly expand it, if it ends up being possible.

oh man, like 4 months But it would have been much faster if we didn’t have to pause for the window. I think 6-8 weeks would have been possible. We had to reroute the second floor wiring too. Another expense and delay. The tiling took a while, I must have made 5-6 extra trips to the tile store for more pieces, grout, etc.

Did you do the tile yourself?
oh no, I just bought all the material. It was a little stressful but I’m a control freak There are some features you can’t see like a heated a floor, electrical socket in a medicine cabinet and the vanity, vent fan with Bluetooth, toilet w bidet. I had the contractor insulate the tub well too so it holds heat beautifully!
It looks great! I'm super jealous. We're planning to do a bunch of renovations (waves hands) eventually, but I won't end up with anything that awesome because we just don't have the space to steal from anywhere. Our primary bath is tiny and will have to stay tiny.
Love it! We are finally embarking on our master bedroom/bathroom renovation (after a similar amount of time in our home)- updating from the orig 1950’s pink/green tile. I can not wait and keep looking for ideas. This looks great- hope you enjoy the bath upgrade

Oooh I love the idea of an insulated tub, I hate when tubs get cold too quick. My biggest wants are a tub shower combo, but with some kind of bump out so I can sit to shave my legs lol. Also, I need space for a larger vanity. I do want some tile, but not too much. In my old house I had a very large master bathroom with a TON of white tile and it took so much work to keep it looking clean. Never again lol.
