We are planning a trip to Barcelona for 4 or 5 nights in August. We will have been in the UK before so no jet lag to deal with. After Barcelona, we are meeting up with my brother and his family and my parents for a week in a villa in Lloret del Mar so Barcelona time is really for the city.
It will be me (I've been to Barcelona before but in my 20s so a long time ago), my partner (whose visited several other European cities but never Spain) and our boys (8 and 10).
I think an VBRO is best as we need separate rooms. What area should we look in? I know it will be hot but we are pretty used to the heat coming from Jamaica.
My 8 year old is soccer obsessed so I know we should do the tour of Camp Nou.
Any suggestions? Places to eat? Places to Stay? Must sees?
We stayed here- right outside the Sants metro station. It was really easy to get around. I used Google Maps and it would tell you step by step how to get where you are going.
This was my favorite restaurant. We only found it on the night before we left for Madrid or we probably would have eaten there every day! www.yelp.com/biz/ciutat-comtal-barcelona-3
ETA- I didn't post the hotel. It's the AC Hotel- Sants. Right outside the metro station. It was nice except I hated the open bathroom floor plan (the toilet is closed and the shower has a door but the rest of it is open)

I have not been there since 2010, but I also love this restaurant!
Maybe check a food tour? Devour Tours is great - in Madrid, they have one that is geared towards families. Maybe in Barcelona also.
Ditto Park Guell - I imagine little boys would like the colorful animal statues.
I had had Park Guell on my list (we have lizards at home so I think theyd find the huge colourful ones fun) and also Sagrada Familia.
majesty318, a food tour specifically for kids is a good idea too. My partner and I would love it and my younger one is willing to try anythign (his current favourite food is curried goat)
mrsd2006 , they would love the cable car - thanks!

Yes make sure you find this big one! We looked everywhere for it and couldn't find it then we finally realized to look where the big crowds were and there he was

My biggest suggestion - if you need to take your cell phone out, hold it at the top with at least one finger. I had someone try to steal mine and because of how I was holding it, couldn't get hold of it (it fell but he was running so didn't grab it from the ground). I love Barcelona and loved our food tour (but it involved wine so might not be the right one for you.)

I went (without kids) on a work trip to Barcelona and stayed the weekend after with my DH. For the work trip we had a hotel by the beach (hotel Front Maritim) which was really nice and for the weekend we found a hotel in the city in the financial district. It was not very touristy there but close to a subway station.
