I was eyeing up a new standing desk on Costco that included the monitor arms for 2 monitors to open up some desk space. I think it was something around $620. I just found one on FB Marketplace and got it for $350. Score!
I'm going to get my hair done this afternoon. My hair is long, nearly to my waist. I'm going to have some layers added and am getting some rose gold highlights in addition to my normal blonde ones. I'm super excited.

We are driving back after five days at the beach. It was amazing, I usually like a faster pace but my mom died this year and my anxiety has been bad. My mental health really needed a break from decisions and stress. Five days of 70-80 degrees and sun and going from the pool to the ocean really helped me grieve. Our teens wanted more to do so my husband took care of that so I could just sit. I am surprised I could mostly sit for six hours each day and rest. My kids even got along. Nobody contacted me from work. I think I might start planning lazier vacations here on out. All this go go go I usually plan doesn’t refresh me the same
seeyalater52 this sucks. I would remind your mom that your child also deserves to see his grandparents. And your sister needs to find childcare. I am really surprised their neighbor is doing it for free.

I’m blown away honestly. They “trade” with them occasionally and watch their two kids under 5 on accession al weekend days but it’s like… once every few months. They send their kid there 8 hours a day 4 days a week. SAHM or not there’s no way I’d agree to that when they’re capable of paying for it! Such an awkward situation all around.
I’m sure I sound judgmental but they are better off financially than we are and we pony up $1300 a month for infant daycare because that’s just what you have to do when you can afford it and you have to work. Or at least I thought so before my sister came up with this alternative arrangement lol.
I hate buying concert tickets lol it's so stressful! BUT I just got 2 tickets to Brandi Carlile this summer! They're not amazing seats, but you could only pick one price level to search for and it didn't say where each price level seating was so I couldn't do the balance between view and price and just had to pick a price that I thought H wouldn't freak out about lol It's also going to be hot af because it's an outdoor pavilion in July in Texas. But I've never seen her live and I've been dying to!

I helped with a presentation to the state house appropriations committee that was discussed today. I cried when the slides popped up. My old job sucked so much and here I am, 4 weeks in, helping the agency get the money it needs to continue serving its population. I screen-shot it and sent it to my mom 😂
I’m looking forward to this weekend. We’re having a birthday party with grandmas and my sister for my oldest. My mom is surprising her with a spring break trip to Disney world. Her dad and I decided to get her a switch lite so she can play Pokémon until her eyes fall out of her head.
My H asked if we were going over-the-top, and I just shrugged. What’s the point of working if I can’t spoil my kid? Kid deserves some happiness after putting up with all the covid bs adults caused.
District basketball starts today. Our boys play today and dd plays tomorrow. I am riding with 3 other moms, and we are leaving tomorrow morning. I am not taking ds, so H is coming to get him this afternoon. Ds is mad that he can't come but I am so giddy at being alone tonight and tomorrow night and not having to listen to his whining. I've been solo parenting since December (the kids and I move to school town during basketball season and H stays at the resort to keep an eye on our long-term renters, our rabbits, and to make sure nothing goes wrong) and I am over being with my kids 24/7 so this will be a nice break.
GOOD: Yesterday I cold emailed this neurosurgeon in Brooklyn who specializes in my condition. It’s rare and hard to find specialists in it, I have only seen them in NYC and abroad. Anyway he’s going to look at my imaging and see if he can take me on or find a colleague who can. Oh please please! This is the most hope I’ve had. Cornell has a few specialists in it and maybe they’ll take me as a test subject. It’s even more rare for a female my age to have it (it’s mostly males over 65) so I will gladly sign up to be a lifelong research subject!! Even if nothing happens, just getting this call meant a lot.

H works with a team in Ukraine and they've completely lost contact with them. Those poor people.
I was supposed to do a fancy tea with a friend this weekend and she's talking about rescheduling. It's been on the calendar for months so I'm annoyed. I realize in the context of my first random this is nothing, but I've been looking forward to it.

We were trying to get tickets to Stromae for December and the site kept freezing up and then it sold out. I’m hoping maybe they will add a second date? Irrationally, I’m blaming my husband because normally I buy the tickets and always have great luck (I got $20 tickets to see Prince in Baltimore!) but I had to leave the house when they went on sale so he handled it. I didn’t think they’d sell out so quickly but I think people are desperate for entertainment lol
I do not envy you for July in Texas! The older I get the more I want to sit down, indoors.

We will have seats and there is an overhang/roof thing that I think we will still provide us shade even in the evening. But I also went to a concert there in August 4(?) years ago and we had to leave early because one of my friends is a little delicate and almost passed out from the heat.
My plan will be to dress entirely in workout clothes that I don't mind sweating in and drinking only water, no alcohol lol

We have a new temp employee working on a project. She’s enthusiastic, a quick learner, sweet as can be, but girlfriend has no concept of personal space.
Like, have you forgotten we’ve been in a pandemic for 2 years? Back off!

It’s very possible I am the delicate flower in my friend group lol I have almost passed out our local outdoor concert pavilion maybe five times? I hold it together but there have been some close calls. 😳 I really think it’s something with the combination of people and music plus the heat. I’m okay at like the beach or a park on a hot day. But concerts take me out.

She was a guest with John Prine. Top notch in person. Enjoy your concert!

Yeah, this friend is a passer-outer lol it's just something she's prone to when she starts feeling even a little bit off.

Ugh I bet that was amazing! Amanda Shires opened when we saw him. I'm sure she's awesome live, thanks!
Cold day and ice covered roads. DH wants to go out for lunch, I just want to sit in front of the fire.
I strongly dislike the state of youth sports. A friend posted a photo of her DD (who is same age and friends with my DD) of her at a bball practice at their school. I asked what league and if we could still sign up as DD would love to play. It's invitation only.....they are in 3rd grade. The coach if this team is also the coach of the girls' team at the middle school level. So he is hand picking these girls and training them and coaching them to his specifications.....hmmmm wonder who gets picked for the team in a few years?!
Youth sports is an absolute shit show, i hate it. Xavier is on a "club team" and while our team has pretty evenly tempered parents, the teams we play practice as much as professional athletes and the parents are another level of insane. I just---I don't get it. The odds of these kids even getting a college scholarship are like 2%, so why push so hard so young? It's so dumb. I hate adults. They're the worst.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
I have my Exit Interview in 10 minutes. I already took my exit survey and let them know that me leaving was largely in part to their return to office policy (only vaccinated have to return) and the fact that we have to return at all. Otherwise, I'm hoping I can keep my cool because I'm still mad that I'm not getting paid out for my 5 days of PTO that I rolled over from last year. I know legally they don't have it, but it still really rubs me the wrong way and feels like they are stealing from me.
I have a big deadline this week and I swear the world is conspiring against me to be extra noisy. Construction, very talky work meetings for my husband I overhear, utility work, dogs barking. The news is stressing me out. Are there sensory deprivation tanks for writers? I haven’t written for this outlet before and the editor hasn’t been super in touch and I just need to get it done!
We have to submit resumes for a bid my company is putting in for a project. Its been a LONG TIME. They sent one guys resume and said they want it in the same format. He says he's an expert in so many things.
I feel weird saying I'm an expert. This is a gender thing isn't it?
I've done this job for 12 years, and most likely do more of this thing than anyone else in the US so I'm probably an expert but I definitely don't feel like one. Its making me feel squicky. He's done his job (different function) for 35 years and is a manager so maybe that's why he is a super expert in all the things.

I forgot to wake up my 12 yo this morning. They have to be at school at 8, usually they leave the house at 8:10 to walk there in time. I woke them up at 7:57. Mom of the year!

I clicked on a link in the shopping thread, did absolutely nothing on the website, and still somehow ended up on their email list?? They must somehow be connected to a brand that I have shopped with. Unsettling.
H and I had a meeting with staff at DS' school to start the eval process for either an IEP or 504. There were 8 staff in that meeting including the SpEd director for the entire school district. It was so intimidating. Next meeting will have 9 staff as DS' teacher wasn't able to attend this morning due to a prior commitment. At least I know what to expect next month. On the plus side, DS(5.75) sat quietly and colored for the entire meeting sometimes whispering to the school counselor who he knows pretty well.
Also, this week I've gotten random emails from the moving company we used 1.5 years ago and the realtor we used back in 2015. Promo type emails I'm guessing, but it's weird. (I just deleted them without reading.)

You definitely sound like an expert yourself.
I bet these guy’s been saying he’s an expert for the past 33 years.
