Are there any work-appropriate icebreaker questions that don’t stink? I’ve been tasked with a (virtual) discussion this week where I ask a question. I’m trying to come up with something interesting and inclusive. It’s something we do on our company Slack to stay in touch - optional, and nobody is put on the spot to answer
We did a two truths and a lie once that was pretty fun. But we were a small team and fairly close so that may have played a role.
My team does the "what's your "at bat" song? Lots of great discussions from those answers!

be prepared to explain the sports analogy there depending on audience.
I'm getting used to this with my newest team member - did not realize how many sports analogies I use when I'm not a big team sports kinda girl. But he follows literally zero sports, and grew up outside the US so didn't absorb baseball or american football through osmosis like I did so sometimes things just don't land.

I once went to a building code meeting where the entire thing was conducted in baseball analogies. Would this improvement get us to first base, home run, etc. It was 18 years ago and still stands out as my most “female in a room of male engineers” moment.
I totally followed everything, it just erked me and reminded me of such a good ol’ boy thing.

Yeah, we tried this one once and more than one person didn't get it.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
The theme song ice breaker question put a song in my head that I couldn't place... after some googling I figured out it was a Breaking Benjamin song. I haven't listened to them in more than a decade 😳
I am now happily rocking out at work with BB, Chevelle, Linkin Park, etc.
Please don't let this board die! Share every inane thought you have.
Ask and ye shall receive 🤣
Last week….
report came back “unremarkable”.
and folks, this is why, even if you think you know what medical stuff is, wait for the reports. 🤣🤣
Medical twinsies! I had the same test this week, and I freaked out the poor ultrasound tech because I was like “I know you see something” even though she hadn’t said anything … you can just tell when they’re going back over the same place, body language, etc. But yeah, doesn’t seem to be anything to worry about for me either.
I'm really hoping that we get a ton of rain that will knock the pollen out of the trees and clean the streets. I took the dog for a walk and she came in with yellow feet and a yellow nose. I have to put so much effort into cleaning her off when she comes in this time of year!
Speaking of pollen, it's full on yellow season here. We got a ton of rain Wednesday night that I thought would clear the air, wash off the cars, etc. Thursday morning was beautiful. Thursday afternoon I could see literal clouds of pollen floating in the breeze and the cars were covered again.
I just found out that a Ukrainian band I like (Go_A) had to reschedule their tour for obvious reasons. Their new dates put them in Belgium and the Netherlands around the same time we'll be there for a bike and barge cruise. Surprisingly, MH's initial reaction was just to ask how much tickets were and not a groan since he's not exactly a fan of electro-folk music. I need to decide if it's worth losing our night in Amsterdam (we've been before) but I might actually be able to make this happen!
The band is based in Kyiv and I have no idea whether they have evacuated or not. They cancelled at least one other international appearance, which makes me think they're still there. I've spent the morning watching their videos, many of which are set in Kyiv. It's hard to believe that many of the scenes may now be gone.
Vespasia, tell me about this boat/barge thing. And go to the show! I’ve happened to land in the same city as a band I like 3 times, and I’ve never regretted heading to the show. But, I’m a sucker for live music
rubytue we're doing a week in Eastern Holland on a small (approx. 50 passenger) boat. Between each stop, you bike around 30 miles although you can also choose to stay on the boat instead of riding. Luckily it's VERY flat. I think we'll be the youngest ones by a few decades.
This is for our ten year wedding anniversary and we honeymooned in that area so it seemed fitting. We were originally planning on Alaska but this was actually a lot cheaper.
That sounds so cool, Vespasia. Please report back after! Particularly on how hard it is. I’d love to do something like that, and can probably keep up with 60-something. But if it’s actually designed for bikers, nope.

Today has been a good day. Started off with an hour long walk with the dog, mainly off lead in the woods, followed by shopping at the local farmers' market where we got dinner food and gorgeous cinnamon buns. The afternoon included a lot of gardening work. Then some good old relaxation. And we just had a fabulous roast for dinner (beef). I'm a happy, relaxed and full woman.

It's been a really great weekend here too. Yesterday the weather was great, I skated in the morning and then went to see CODA and then spent the afternoon with my dog and made Indian food for dinner.
Today, we've been doing actually fun family stuff and I'm making steaks for dinner and I have homemade chocolate cake at home.
