I’ve been on hold with Costco travel for 45 min to find out whether we can add car seats to our airport transfer. We are going to Costa Rica next week and we have been able to get car seats added to our transports that we booked separate from our Costco package. It would be so nice not to have to lug car seats around.

Where in Costa Rica? Are you staying in a hotel or rental property?

We’re staying for 5 days at a Westin Resort in the Guancaste Province and then we are taking a shuttle to Monteverde and staying at a treehouse hotel for 3 nights.

Still home with a sick little one. We went outside for a while since it’s so nice out, but now he’s exhausted again just from playing in the playhouse and blowing a few bubbles.
H is going OOT this week, so it’s all on me…again. Solo parenting sucks, but especially when your kid is sick.
My oldest starts kindergarten in the fall so I added all the school holidays/early dismissals to my calendar.
I'm on my DD's school's PTA board and we considered making a refrigerator magnet for incoming K parents but all we had to put on it at this point is all the days the kids are not in school. It was a huge list. We scrapped it, it was so depressing looking.
I get why we have them (we have 2 extra week long breaks so we start school 2 weeks earlier plus our elementary schools have 4 extra days off for students each year for teacher PD rather than the 8 early release days which were a childcare nightmare) but it is a lot of time off when you are used to year-round childcare.
We're getting estimates to get our roof replaced - we got two last week, a third is just going to give us an estimate from satellite/plane photos because they've done work at our house before, and a fourth is here today - and it's a super annoying process. Also, I'm on day 2 of a sinus/weather changing/FU it's spring time headache, and I am so not in the mood.

So much time! And some of them make no sense. (I'm looking at you random Friday in January and 11 DAY spring break).
We will adjust as all parents do, but I anticipate some growing pains over the next couple months as we figure out our new normal.

This is our calendar too - except we also have 4 early release days when they get out 2 hours early.
If I'm being honest I don't mind the balanced calendar but I have flexibility that I know a lot of parents don't have. We always travel on our October Intersession which is nice because it's off season for so many places.

My complaint is that with how many freaking days off they have there is no good time for us to take a family ski vacation! LOL

Haha! The hardest part for us is the have an Intersession week mid Feb and then spring break the end of March and it's too much togetherness in a 6 week span LOL
Many of the people who work on my company’s team have not traveled for work before and we’ve got an event we all have to go to. The amount of emails I am getting asking what they can expense is crazy. Can I buy a soda? Can I buy chips? Can I have a dinner? Just be reasonable and don’t buy $300 dinners and you’ll be fine! I wish our company had a per diem or something so I could just say you can spend up to x.
I found it so intimidating going on my first work trip by myself and receiving zero guidance on how to use my corporate card. I didn't realize how relaxed I could be there until I went away the following year with some more senior folks who expensed a night of drinking in the bar. I feel like the "rules" of how it can be used are almost entirely dependent on the department and are almost never written down!
At the last conference I went to, I had dinner with a bunch of people from different companies and was really surprised at how much everyone's policies worked. Some people had a per diem that didn't adjust if you were in a very expensive city. Some didn't cover alcohol at all. Some didn't cover a tip (they were coming from a country where tipping isn't standard). Some didn't cover coffee, bottled water, drinks outside of meals, and snacks. These people weren't working for mom and pops, either--some of the craziest policies were from big multi-nationals!
I am impatiently awaiting the Brooks Glycerin 20 release - I don't want to pay full price for the 19 but my current sneakers are shot and I've been in such a good mode getting back into running. I cannot push these sneaks much longer bc old, and I'm coming off a very destructive injury. Wahhhhh. I just emailed my local running store like a stalker. I hope it's soon!
Last I saw was July so you may want to buy some 19s.

Thank you! The running store said the same - I ordered a pair of 19s today. I’ll be ready for new shoes shortly after launch!
Anyone familiar with Cape May NJ in late September? Is everything going to be closed (especially during the week)? I’m not familiar enough to look up individual businesses to see if they are open and get a good idea.
OH!! We have 5 baby foxes in the yard and they quite possibly might be the cutest thing I have ever seen!!
Oh man, one spring we had a mama fox that would bring her pups to our yard to play and then hop the fence into the neighbors' yard and just chill in the sun, lol. They were SO DAMN CUTE playing on the slide, batting a ball around, and chasing each other. Eventually they started coming up on our deck and it was way too tempting to let one just run in the back door and keep it forever 😆

I can't speak to Cape May in particular, but in general there are lots of Jersey shore places open through September so I think you'll be OK.
I love my company. They just announced that we did SO well last year (and, I suspect, because they're starting the return to office process soon) that they're giving an additional 2% bonus at the end of June. They're already paying out annual bonuses at 135% because that's how far we surpassed our company goals. Pretty cool.

Cape May be 100% be bumping in September. In fact, it’s the best time to be there. Less crowded but things will still be open. It’s more of an adult or more sophisticated resort area than typical shore towns and I think they revel in all the whippersnappers leaving.
Something I have noticed...when you feel a really big sneeze building and you are waiting for it to happen, it reminds of an orgasm building and there is that moment where you wonder, will it happen or will just *poof* disappear? Musings from the sick bed.
Also, starting my period of late means getting a terrible headache too. this feels like i am getting kicked when I am down. lol
I got a call from my kid's school a little after 12 today that she was sick & needed to be picked up. Said her stomach hurt but no fever and no vomit - ya know - that nondescript "sick". So even though I was pretty sure she wasn't sick I left work and picked her up and worked remote this afternoon. She is so NOT sick. I think she just knows that it's not often too big a deal for me to work remote. Crafty kid. But I didn't want to take the chance that she really was sick. Dang kids. And dang school having my number listed first before H's - although to be fair he works 45 mins to an hour away but still!

Also call your insurance company! We did on the recommendation from one of the roofing company's we got an estimate from, and the ins. co. paid more than half of the total cost of the replacement!

Great! That’s what I was hoping. We want quiet yet beachy.

Thanks! I’ve only been to the Jersey beaches either during high season or the extreme low season like January so I wasn’t sure. And not Cape May/Wildwood since probably the 1990s.

I want to say most of the stores and shops on the main drag there are open until at least the end of December.
