We are heading to WDW and I’ve never been before and feel so unprepared! I was determined to keep it laid back and follow our kids’ lead but now at the 11th hour I’m worried that I don’t know what I’m doing.
Kids are 5, 8 & 10. The 5 & 10 yos are prone to motion sickness and the 8 yo doesn’t do well in very loud situations (freaked out at Disney on Ice a few months ago). We have 2 days at MK, 1 at AK, and 1 at Epcot. We added Genie+ but I feel like I won’t even know what I should be choosing on the app because I don’t know the rides/attractions. I tried looking on dis boards and my head was spinning.
Please recommend rides that would be a good fit for my crew and/or rides we might want to avoid!
When are you going? You can view very ride on Youtube to see exactly what you're getting into.
For Magic Kingdom - for rides for that age without too much extreme motion I'd recommend Jungle Cruise (book this first if you can get a morning time, because the Genie+ runs out fast) then Peter Pan, Haunted House and Pirates of the Caribbean. There's also a Buzz light year ride, but I haven't been on that in years.
For Epcot, we loved the Ratatouille ride (which def purchase the lightening lane). If they're into Frozen that ride isn't too bad motion wise.
My best advice is that if it is too much, too hot, too crowded at any point, go back to the hotel and take a swim break. That always ends up being my kid's favorite.

YES. My kids could stay at the resort pools and playgrounds for hours. And I second looking at youtube videos.
There is so much to do and explore that doesn't include rides. My kids could spend a long time exploring Tom Sawyer Island in MK- and to me it's not that exciting, but my kids have a blast. There is a scavenger hunt in Epcot- costs 9.99 but the kids find Easter eggs around the world showcase and then get a prize at the end.
I wouldn't be concerned with what you do or don't get done or ride. Your kids will have a great time no matter what! I think we as adults can put pressure on kids when we've spent so much money and think we have to do x, y, z to make it worth it. Remember that your kids take their lead from parents, so your attitude plays a big part. If your not disappointed about something not happening, your kids won't know to be either.
There is a Disney Parks app that has games on it and we use the Heads Up app to play that game while waiting in line.

At AK -You can use your Genie+ for Festival of the Lion King, though it might be hard on the "loud noise" scale since it's a show with a big audience. -avoid Dinosaur, it's loud and scary and difficult for motion sickness. -Flights of Passage can be hit or miss with motion sickness. It's an amazing ride but it's a simulator, which can be rough. -Everest is a roller coaster, so it depends on how your kids do with roller coasters. Some people get motion sickness with spinning but are OK as long as you are moving forward. -The Safari goes over dirt, bumpy roads at a slow pace. But if they get car sick it might be a little rough.
At Epcot -Do not go on Mission Space. It is the devil. -Remy might be a little hard for motion sickness, you are wearing 3D glasses and moving in every direction, my friend who has motion sickness had a hard time with it.
At MK -Most rides are pretty gentle except Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, 7 Dwarves Mine train (all assuming they can't handle mild roller coasters). And if they can't handle spinning, the Tea Cups. I would show the kid who is sensitive to loud noises a Pirates of the Caribbean youtube video, there's a "cannon" battle at the beginning that might be slightly loud but the actual ride is gentle. The Speedway also can be loud from the engines, but you can get a sense of that just walking by.
Motion sickness here, and frequent Disney-er. The rides that kill me are Flight of Passage (I do it anyway because it is amazing, but the last time I ended up having to miss dinner after because I couldn't stomach it), Mission Space (intense and not worth it, IMO), sometimes Soarin' (which is amazing, but can be tough on the stomach), and Star Tours - essentially anything virtual with motion. I did okay on Remy, but it is easy to look away to re-center myself when necessary. I second using YouTube to preview rides and looking at the motion sensitivity chart, since my motion sickness may not have the same triggers as your kids. I can do most roller coasters, for example.
Either way, you will have a blast and everyone will have plenty to do and see! Don't feel pressured to ride everything - everything WesleyCrusher said is true!
My kids did fine on the rides - much better than in the car!!! We did give my youngest a half of a children’s Dramamine each morning as a preventative because he’s a known puker but I think the better lines of sight and fresh air made a huge difference compared to being in the car. *I* got a tad queasy on Remy but luckily it was a short ride anyway!
