Gonna be completely honest, I haven't been paying attention at all and don't even know who the candidates are.
This is me. I've been paying closer attention to our school board candidates since one is a raging anti-gbltq+ asshat but he's the favorite to win right now (RAGE).
Thanks for posting. I was curious on the board’s pulse of this, too. Last I checked there were 11 contenders on the Dem side. I believe the primary is ETA July 19, so coming up quick. I have a friend involved in the Wes Moore/Aruna Miller campaign. I like them. I was on an early call with them and they spent a lot of time answering my question about how they’ll handle and prioritize the climate crisis, which I appreciated. I’m also slowly reading his book The Other Wes Moore.
I got a call from someone on the Peter Franchot campaign a few months ago. I pressed the guy on the carbon neutral by 2030 promise, as that’s one of the most aggressive ideas I’ve heard of… the guy said that alone was the reason why he joined that campaign.
I haven't paid any attention at all yet, so I don't know! I feel like there hasn't been a lot of press about it yet? I subscribe to the Baltimore Sun and I don't read everything out there, obviously, but I haven't seen much even discussed.
I read the book The Other Wes Moore a few months ago, before I had any idea he was running. He seemed like a smart, thoughtful guy who would have a good understanding of some complex issues, but I don't know if that translates to being governor or not. I'm going to have to read more about his platform.
Its interesting that Perez doesn't have better polling numbers, he's was a council member in the largest jurisdiction. Cabinet member for Obama (labor secretary) and head of the DNC. He's generally seems likeable as well.
I admittedly haven't paid much attention since I no longer have to for work. I'm surprised Franchot's massive tax blunder as comptroller isn't forcing more people to question him. He misdirected $21 million of local taxes to municipalities (instead of the counties they sit in).
ETA: Katie O'Malley seems to have the better resume for the AG position, having served as a judge and prosecutor in Maryland. Anthony Brown's career has been primarily in politics. It must feel a little weird running against each other since he was her husband's lt. governor.
So, my knowledge has progressed slightly, bc I watched the news and we can’t FF commercials anymore. So, there is the guy who wants to move his office to Baltimore. And the lady who says “of course masks off in schools.”
Checking back in, now that I have my mail-in ballot, for more intel on Maryland state races. Anyone have more developed thoughts?
I’m getting a ton of Peter Franchot calls and Facebook ads. I’ve seen the guy riding the bike and going the wrong way up the escalator on TV a bit (Jon Baron). A few Wes Moore signs. I think I know which way I’m going for the hyper local stuff but I’d take thoughts on the statewide races if anyone has them.
Peter Franchot is so old, can’t there be a cut off of like 65? Even 70?
His referring to himself as a “outsider” despite being in politics since I was a child is grating. He also calls himself a “maverick” lol He was blabbing about “unity” today too. What a tool.

I watched the debate a few weeks ago, and really liked what I heard from Jain. I wish I remembered what I like, but I remember coming away that he was my favorite. But I haven’t seen or heard much since them, so I’m guessing he doesn’t have much of a shot.
And I just got a call where I was asked my impression of several (but not all) gubernatorial candidates. Doug Gansler, Kelly Schulz, Peter Franchot, Wes Moore, Tom Perez. Asked if Rushern Baker suspending his campaign influenced how I might vote (I hadn’t realized he’s out). They wanted to know what I thought the most effective type of campaigning was - calls, text, mailers, door knocking, social media, etc. Asked how likely I was to vote, by what method, and how I considered myself politically along a liberal-conservative spectrum, education level and a few more things.
But sharing here where all the people who will get this are located...I had the weirdest flipping dream that I was chatting casually (like at a house party of a mutual friend) with Hogan. And at some point in the convo I was like "I mean, don't think I'm a republican or something but I feel like states should get to decide that!" (Talking about something transportation related I think?) And then remembered who I was taking to and was all "oh...uh. no offense? I'm gonna just go.." and then I woke up.
Which is just to say my god I'm a giant nerd with a faulty verbal filter even in my dreams!!
All I really know is that I am not voting for Gansler. His scare tactic carjacking ad was a huge turnoff.
I also have no idea who to vote for in the city state's attorney race. Mosby is under federal indictment. Vignarajah is supported by shithead racist Atlas/Sinclair Broadcasting people. Bates was just endorsed by one of our disgraced former mayors but maybe that is the least terrible options?
As I fill out my ballot, I’m to the point where I always scream “what the eff is an orphans court judge and why do I care?!”
Seriously, MD, can we do something about the name? The answer to WTF is probate. Why are we still calling it after Oliver Twist?!
Now, off to see who these people running are. $10 say they don’t have websites.
Oh - funny story. I was looking up the guy running against an incombant for a county office. His webpage head shot was honestly, a big grainy. Right there on the homepage were the icons for Twitter, FB, and insta. I click the bird, I get…. THE TWITTER FOR WIX WEBSITE BUILDER. I ruled him out right there. He failed the “finding the right people for jobs” requirement if he can’t even get someone to build a website and use a high quality picture or fill in the right stuff in a template.
edit: oh, apparently in November, we have a referendum question to change from elected orphans court judges to putting our circuit court judges on the orphans court. So… this seems like a highly useful primary.
@@ as an FYI for those in Carroll County, school board candidates Tom Scanlan and Amanda Jozkowski were both at the Westminster Pride Festival yesterday. Didn't meet them (was there as a vendor and didn't really have time to stop/step away), but they seemed quite happy and very personable when they were talking with the people around us. Solidified my decision to vote for them.

Dr. Dorsey was there, walking around, as well!
Awesome! I didnt see her but I was so busy if someone wasnt in my face I wasnt paying much attention. I noticed the other two because I did walk by their booths very breifly and noted their faces. As an aside, did you come smell soap!?!?!

I didn’t! I wish I had known, I would have stopped by! I was there with Zach Hands.
