Susie, I wish there was something I could do to help families like yours. the burden on working moms of young kids is so fucking unfair.
My school went remote until Wednesday. Just got off an admin call where it was suggested we stay remote got another week. We also found out that there is a 7th grade bat mitzvah and a 5th grade birthday party tomorrow, which totally negates the remote break. So that’s fun.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Well, for better or worse, for hoped-for or hope-to-avoid, covid got us. DS had a 101 fever last night, 102 this morning, and got an immediate and bright positive rapid test this morning. No squinters here. He seems fine other than the fever. Still playing, yelling, etc.
I gave Tylenol for the fever, is Motrin still to be avoided with covid or am I good to alternate? His Tylenol dose is going to run out on him mid afternoon nap.
I’m planning to get him lab tested too, so we have proof of prior infection. It might be helpful in the future.

I’m sorry 😞 My dd only had cough and headache so I did alternate Tylenol and Motrin for that. But was otherwise energetic. I hope he has a quick recovery and the rest of you are spared (H and I threw on masks immediately and avoided it).

Honestly I'm not even trying. I was the parent who put him to bed Thurs night, stayed home all day with him yesterday, did his bath and toothbrushing last night even after his fever started, etc. At this point I'd rather it happen faster so we don't string it out forever.

I’m so sorry it got all of you! Honestly, once one of us tested positive we actively decided not to try to avoid in-house spread. It took 12 days for my youngest to test positive after the first case in the house. We were testing him a lot by then because that shortened his time out of school (otherwise it would have been 20 days after Hs positive test, this allowed him to return in 10 days).
Fingers crossed that you all get through without getting too sick!
Well, add us to the list of first timers getting covid now. DS tested positive this morning (immediate bright line). The kids have been sleeping in the same room and we've all been together all weekend.

DD1 is home with me today because she has an unusual cough. It's a wetter cough and she has tested negative so far, so maybe not covid but we will see. There were two cases in her class last week though. However, a month ago the kid who sits with her desk attached to DD1's had covid and DD1 didn't catch it, so hopefully this will be the same result.
DD2 gets her first dose in less than a month. I'm not too worried about her if she gets infected before then, but she has zero immunity right now so I'd rather she gets at least one dose under her belt since it seems like covid infections are now a matter of when, not if.
Despite best efforts to keep covid contained to me, my husband tested positive today. No point in me quarantining anymore. I feel so bad for my kindergartener we now have to pull from all her end of year stuff.

DD is 4 so unvaxxed. Grumble.
Hope you have an easy time of it. We're similarly situated and already seem to be on the upswing.
DS had a 101 fever Friday evening, 102 Saturday morning (immediate bright line for him too), then 100 yesterday morning, and 99 this morning. His ear temps have been 98.7/99.0 all day today, no Motrin. That was the entirety of his symptoms. No congestion, no coughing, and I presume from the yelling no sore throat.
H was neg on a rapid this morning, so he's at work. We didn't test DD (vaxxed) but we did take her temp (fine) and send her masked. I took a PCR swab at urgent care on Sat with DS, because my throat was irritated, but since I haven't gotten worse I feel like it's probably going to be neg. I got him PCR tested so we would have a record of his case. He's doing ok, but now we're waiting on how many of the rest of us will go down. Like Tom Petty said... the waiiiiiting is the hardest part...
I'm sort of baffled by it. DS doesn't go anywhere besides daycare, and he was on double quarantine from two different daycare exposures when he started symptoms (days 1 and 9) and tested pos (days 2 and 10). So I feel like we can be pretty sure this originated from daycare. But none of days 1, 2, 9, or 10 strike me as the most likely for onset. I guess he was also probably exposed on days in the middle somewhere, who knows. It makes it hard to know much of anything about incubation period and when everybody else's exposures began though.
Yeah, H was sick last week and tested negative on a rapid but maybe it was too early. All of us have had a long string of colds since the mask mandates were dropped here so it's possible based on last sickness timing that DD was patient 0 (we tested her on a rapid but she fights it hard so it's nearly impossible to get a decent sample). Who knows.
I am bummed for both kids to miss the end of school fun, but I'm excited at the prospect that we can do more stuff for a couple months with less worry.

My four kids have been passing a cold between them for the past month. We can't seem to shake it, with cough, lethargy, headache, nose running, slight fever, etc. I've tested them so many times and always negative, which I guess that I'm grateful for. But, I feel like it's just a matter of time in the next few weeks until they get covid again (had it in January), and they've already missed so much school and stuff for this dang cold. I've been tempted to take them for PCR tests just in case the many rapids aren't picking something up.

We did the same. Well, I masked up when I first tested positive (I was patient zero in our house), but once my H tested positive too we gave up. The kids then followed.
Sorry you’re dealing with Covid. My DD1 is similar to your DS in age and her only symptom was a fever for a couple days and then she was completely fine. Hopefully you’ll all get through it quickly!

I can’t find it now but I think I read something about 2 days being pretty common with current strains.
After all of my stress about my work conference, my route of exposure ended up being my 8 month pregnant sister. Rapid tested negative today, so I’m choosing to fly home today fully masked. Then I will isolate at home until I pcr test on Friday or rapid test positive earlier.
How are you feeling so far?
So far, so good. Despite my best efforts to quarantine, my husband is down with the flu-like covid which sucks. I at least have head cold covid. Now I just wait to see how I react in the next couple months. Fingers crossed.
For those who have had covid spread through your families, how long did it take? H started feeling sick with cold symptoms Wednesday. Tested negative initially, but he was still sick when he woke up Thursday and tested positive that morning. Since then, the kids and I have been testing negative every day and feeling fine. For a lot of reasons, we are not isolating from H (who has been back to feeling normal since Saturday) though we are wearing good masks indoors in public and avoiding nonessential activities/parties/etc. I got a pcr test done on myself yesterday/Monday afternoon and it came back negative. The kids got pcr tests done this morning and results are pending, but assuming they are negative, how long would you continue daily testing? Would you get another pcr done and if so when? I'm trying to be responsible, but balancing that with being in a community that has pretty much stopped all control measures and has embraced "living with the virus". There are literally no rules at my school (where I work and the kids attend) about close contacts anymore.

Covid went through our whole house and it started with DD. Every 4 days a new person tested positive. I think if you make it a week without symptoms I would feel ok not testing anymore. I understand your dilemma. I also live in a community with no Covid rules so it’s hard to navigate!

I'd probably home test my family through this school week and then just watch for symptoms.

When DS had it a few weeks ago the school nurse suggested MH and I test on day 5 or if we developed symptoms and then again on day 10. Neither of us got it or had any symptoms of it at any time.
DS is currently on day 4 of isolation. He started with a fever on day 0, tested positive on both rapid and PCR on day 1, and his fever lasted through day 2. No symptoms or Tylenol/Motrin from day 3 onward.
Our daycare goes by NYS OCFS guidance, and they say that kids who are age 2+ can return to daycare with masking on day 6-10, if they are fever free for 24+ hours without meds before their return, and any other symptoms are improving. It looks like DS will easily meet those criteria by Thurs, day 6. He never had any symptoms besides the fever, and it's already been gone >24h.
On one hand, I am super cringey about relying on masks for toddlers following known infection. I mean come on. They are unmasked for breakfast, snack, lunch, and nap, so WTF does masking even mean? Relying on masking in this context seems like exactly how we wound up a few days ago, simultaneously on day 9 of one quarantine, day 1 of another quarantine, and day 0 of active covid infection. It has suuuuuuuucked.
OTOH, if this is the rule that everybody's going by...?
Options include: just follow the rule and send him, don't send him until next week, or send if negative on a rapid. The last option makes the most sense to me, but the poor kid is super traumatized by all these tests (he got a bloody nose from one on Sat) so I try not to test unless there's a good reason.
This question brought to you by, he's been out of daycare 7 of the last 10 work days, and we're still only on day 4 of isolation, I have no backup, and I'm dying!

I tested positive and had symptoms for around 3 days, then two days after i tested positive, my H had symptoms and was positive and two days after that, DD had symptoms (we didn't test her for another two days because this was on a friday and i wanted to make sure it wasn't too early), DS never tested positive or had symptoms. I wouldn't do another PCR, I would do one more rapid in two or three days and call it good.
susie I would send him day 6 or later if he’s negative with a home rapid. But I would be gentle with the test and err on the side of getting a less than stellar sample
Our pedi swabs by “collecting a boogie” which just goes into the very tip of each nostril and doesn’t last anywhere near the full 15 seconds. We do the same these days, especially for my youngest.

Surprisingly long. About 5 days in between DD and me and then another 5 or 6 between me and DH.
For a multitude of reasons, including that we didn't realize it was covid till DH got sick, we didn't rapid test daily. We tested once on rapid mostly to confirm lack of contagiousness since we were both all better by then and then confirmed infection via PCR.
It appears this may be moot, because H & I both tested positive this morning. Even if DS can go back, neither of us can leave isolation to take him. Monday will be our day 6 and his day 10, so maybe then.

So sorry. I hope the silver lining is that this buys you some time afterwards where no one needs to quarantine.
