Yes I’m a bit nervous. I’m flying home from an international trip on Saturday. While I had covid in January, H has not had it. We are in Croatia where masks are not required and I literally don’t think I’ve seen a single one the entire time we have been here. I’m a bit nervous about the testing to come home. Obviously I new it was a risk when numbers were much lower when we planned (and even came). The numbers at home have almost doubled in the last week.
Oh, eek. That's where we're going in 2 weeks and I was hoping that masking there would be a thing. I am really nervous about testing to come home. Neither of us have had it yet (that we know of) so we're really just relying on immunity from vaccines, which obviously won't prevent us from testing positive.
You didn't have to test before arriving, right? I haven't found anything that says we have to but I'm always nervous I'm missing some important piece of information before traveling.
No we didn’t test before arriving. You can enter the country with either a negative test or proof of vaccine. Though your most recent shot can’t be anymore than 270 old so if you aren’t boosted I recommend doing it now.

Awesome, thanks! We both got our boosters in October so we should be good.
Good luck testing to come back! I hope it all goes smoothly.
Sigh. CDC just flipped my county to high. It was already time to stock up on more at-home tests and see where our supply of masks is at but I was hoping we could ride out spring and summer at a lower rate.
My mom got positive test results today (pcr yesterday). She's been sick since Monday/Tuesday. My sister, who is a PA is telling my dad he shouldn't test unless he has symptoms. Like asymptomatic covid isn't a thing or anything. I just can't with my family.
Today is my day 6 so I should be able to end isolation today. I tested on a Binax this morning and it is still a strong positive. Ugh. I have felt completely fine for 3 days now. So never had a fever, symptoms improved to the point of being gone, but still very positive.
My county and several surrounding counties are now back to being considered high transmission rate. My work has responded by reinstating the mask mandate. They have removed and reinstated in several times now based on transmission.
This part is what scares me the most: Each infection may bring with it the possibility of long Covid, the constellation of symptoms that can persist for months or years. It’s too early to know how often an Omicron infection leads to long Covid, especially in vaccinated people.
I have some colleagues out for months because of Long Covid and there isn’t any signs that will come back soon. I wonder if more people will end up on long term disability.
I guess we don’t know if several COVID infections lead to increased chances of getting long COVID

this happened with my husband as well. He was so frustrated.
But, it shows how even if you feel better, you can still be shedding the virus and we must carefully isolate so as to knock this shit off!
I hate this. I got covid in January after being boosted in November. I haven’t been as diligent as I previously was thinking I was most likely safe from reinfection at least for awhile. After seeing more and more evidence to the contrary I am starting to reevaluate my life choices.

How long did he test positive for? Today is day 8 and still positive. It looks like it is fading a little but I’m not even sure I’ll be negative at day 10 at this rate.

I'm really trying to focus on just being as vaccinated as I can be (how about those second boosters for the under 50 set, pretty please?) to keep my chances of long covid at bay. If I'm not mistaken, I believe long covid chances are lower in vaccinated people based on what we know so far?
But we are still so undervaccinated as a country among eligible populations. Who the hell knows what this latest surge might do to people, especially those who are still unvaccinated.

This is terrifying for me. I had COVID in January during the major surge. Ended up with multiple blood clots in my lungs. I'm now in twice weekly PT to work on building up my stamina and breathing. My long covid symptoms just won't go away. It's incredibly frustrating. I'll feel fine, then do any kind of activity, and end up needing a nap and to catch my breath. I go into the office one day a week and it completely wipes me out. I'm going to get an echocardiogram in a couple weeks as further follow up. My boyfriend and I just don't know what to do at this point to keep me safe because we're so freaked out about what will happen if I get it again.

based on what our infectious disease team is saying (I work in a major medical center), they have people stop testing after day 7. Apparently you could still test positive at 10 days but you are basically done shedding the virus at that point, so even if it says positive, you are safe to resume activity around people. Again, that is what I am told and what our institutional policy is--test at day 7, if positive, stay out of work until day 10 at which point you can return to work without testing.
Today is day 7 for H, so he tested today and got his positive again this AM. He will not test again.
So I’m not sure what to do here. H and I were in Croatia last week. We took tests on Saturday to come home and we don’t tested negative. Our flight got in yesterday. This morning H woke up feeling like garbage so he took a test and it was positive.
Is contact tracing still a thing? Do we need to let the airplane know so they can let other people on the flight know or… just let it go? I’m not sure if the airline would actually alert people?

That’s the same thing that happened to me. Tested negative, flew home and started to get a dry/scratchy throat on the plane, tested negative the day we arrived home, tested positive the next day.
It didn’t cross my mind to report to the airline. I did take a PCR and my county health department called and asked if they knew where I got it. I mentioned my travels and she didn’t ask for any of my flight info. I’m thinking the airline wouldn’t do anything with the info.

You can do stuff, you just have to wear a mask.
I went to a baseball game tonight. Outside, masked, stayed distanced from people. I’m sure 75% of the people there wouldn’t have even bothered wearing a mask in my shoes yet I still felt guilty for being there. Where I live wearing a mask especially outside drew all sorts of attention so everyone knew I just had Covid.

I think I read an article like a year ago about how we never did any contact tracing on airplanes in the USA. Because, you know, it might be bad for business.

I am so sorry. I have had chronic health issues in my life so I understand the feeling of being frustrated and dealing with uncertainty.
Wishing all the best and hopefully you will feel better very soon
My dad tested positive yesterday on an at home test. I think I convinced him to get a pcr today. (I have disabilities and can see the writing on the wall of insurance companies refusing to cover care for long covid without a pcr if he were to have that. I have to fight them to cover my care and I was diagnosed with my disabilities at 7 months old and 12 years old.)

I sent DH for a PCR for the exact same reason. If you dad is old, he may also qualify for treatments... which of course you have to start before you know if you really need. Hopefully they'll talk with him about that too (although, actually, I have no clue if they do).
