We had DS’s appointment with the pediatrician who specializes in ADHD. It was really helpful. She’s putting him on a different class of meds, since the class of meds he is on tends to cause depression and general mood issues in his age group. We know her socially, so I already trusted her, but seeing her in a professional setting was just amazing.
That is great mommyatty! I'm jealous, we're still waiting for an appointment for DD2 to figure out her meds. We're hoping to get it straightened out before next school year, but the wait list is so long.
DD2's therapy seems to be going ok... She's doing a lot of exposure therapy, encouraging her to try not doing her OCD routines and keep track of how she feels. The therapy appointments themselves sometimes feel like pulling teeth to get her to talk though. I think she just has to warm up to the therapist a little more. It's like DD2 doesn't really understand what the big deal is about her having all these routines.
mommyatty, I'm happy to hear it. Can I ask what he's switching to?
I'm starting the evaluation process for DD2. She doesn't have the same impulsivity and binge-eating issues as DD1, so I can't imagine that Vyvanse will be the recommendation. But her anxiety is sky high so I want to be careful about that as well.
I'm also going to be evaluated. The more I read about ADHD and executive dysfunction, the more I wonder how I was able to get through school at all. It could be high anxiety that causes a lot of my symptoms, but it's becoming increasingly more difficult for me to focus on anything. So I'm curious about the options...
Well our air conditioning went out yesterday and it was 90 degrees. Dh just walked through the living room and said it was catastrophic and just kept walking, he's too busy to explain. So I guess we are out an entire unit. I swear if I have some life threatening situation, I hope he's not the first one I hear about it because his delivery sucks.
Ds was home for 3 days last weekend and then on the way back asks me when to sign up for college classes and how's he supposed to decide where to go. That would have been a great conversation kid when you were sitting here on the couch and we asked what's new with you. So I got him all the information from our local community college since he had his dual credit courses there in high school and has about 12 or 15 credit hours there. That will give him some time to figure out the best place to transfer for online courses for the military. I told him to ask my brother for advice. He is on his third random degree, because it's free through the army so why not.
And now he tells me it will be $3600. That's a hit to my savings. And do I want to go head and do the furnace too. Um no. I need to keep money for whatever other nonsense in this house the is about to blow. Proactively is a luxury I cannot afford right now.
mae0111- Cotempla XRC. She told us Vyvanse in younger kids tends to cause a ton of problems in younger kids but is very effective with ADHD symptoms. With DS, it did the opposite. No effect on his ADHD symptoms but he had more personality. But we didn’t try a high enough dose, she thinks. In other news, Vyvanse goes generic next year. So yay!
mommyatty, thank you! DD1 has had success with Vyvanse, also because of it's indications for binge eating (which was a huge problem, and is now still a problem, just a less so). But again, not sure it will be right for DD2. I will research Cotempla as well.
Ans yay to Vyvanse going generic. I'm not sure we will switch to the generic because DD1 is so sensitive to medication, but it will mean that the price of the name brand will go down. With insurance, I'm paying over $250 a month. Good RX shows that it's over $350 for a 30 day supply - and we do 30 days of 2 doses which she manages based on what she needs that day. So insurance knocks the price down from $700 to $250. Every month when I pick it up, the pharmacy tech almost has a heart attack when explaining the copay to me.
My employee ran a data clean up. We all felt confident that it was good, people from multiple divisions looked it over before we hit go. And then it ran, and broke something that we've been working on for two years. I feel sick and awful that my staff member is the cause of this. There's no way any of us could have known this would happen. But it majorly, majorly sucks.
twinmomma, at the beginning of covid, DH and his team were responsible for some large social media platform changes that resulted in any covid news articles being shared getting flagged/blocked as misinformation because of a code change that he pushed through. Of course everyone was freaking out that the large social media platform was trying to censor covid articles, was it deliberate, etc. And it had a huge amount of media coverage. Sooooooooooo at least it wasn't that?
twinmomma, technically it wasn't his team's fault, it was on their vendors who had inadvertantly filtered those news sources, but clearly they didn't scrub the vendor's stuff before implementing..
AND he went on to get a "greatly exceeds expectations" on his performance review that year and a very nice bonus. Soooo there's hope.
He had another big blunder (not coding related) that hit the news that year also, that wasn't his fault AT ALL, but still looks like his fault... thankful the news outlets that picked it up didn't have access to all the details, like what company was involved. It was awful.
Luckily his company and/or founder makes the news on a near daily basis, so they'd honestly need to write a new program to keep track of all their gaffs and who was responsible for them.
Just randoms... My dad is back which is nice. His trip was okay. Lots of happy tears from his sister that he came. They each asked for a huge before he left and his oldest told him this would be the last time they saw him. This of course upset dad and he did tell his brother before he flew home. Yes dad will probably never go back to the Chicago area but why they can't meet someplace else to visit, email, text, or call is beyond me. I told him he offered the olive branch it is their choice to accept and he shouldn't feel guilty.
My mom didn't complain at all while he was gone! But we all saw her on mothers day and she was 100% healthy. Talked to her on Monday morning and she sounded like she was on deaths door and was barking coughing during our entire phone call. When I dropped dad off she was still barking and didn't cover her mouth. She is supposed to go with us to tax convention next week and I'm telling dad she can't come if she isn't 72 hour cough free before hand.
Sports update going in sports. Why are all the middle school age camps starting at 1 or 2pm?

Today my office did a huge event for employee appreciation day, and it was really fun. We did a Trivia Teams challenge game this morning, and for lunch they set up a big thing outside with pizza, salad, desserts, a DJ, contests, etc. Even though the weather wasn't great, I think people had a good time doing something different for a change!
It was "Kentucky Derby" themed so the contests included best dressed, best hats, etc......some folks went all out!

My poor employee just called me in tears, so worried that we'll fire her over this. We would never do that over this situation. It sucks and we're all stressed, but shit happens. She's a relatively young employee and is just freaking out. She's a rockstar and has already won a bunch of awards here in her short tenure, there's no way we'd just cut her loose over this! I feel so bad for her and was able to talk her down a little. I hope she can catch her breath and regroup a little tonight.

This is just totally a random - today DD's grade 1 teacher called to tell us that DD had a massive meltdown in class - screaming, crying, had to be physically removed from class and taken to the office. The teacher was shocked as DD presents as Miss Perfect at school.
DH and I were just amused - she throws some epic tantrums at home, but never in front of others; so everyone thinks she is the sweetest, most perfect child there is. She's way overtired this week and I guess she just couldn't keep it up.
We went to get her, and by the time we got there, she was surrounded by the EA, her old kindergarten teacher and a grade 3 teacher she loves - all hovering over her, stroking her hair and saying "poor xx". DH and I just looked at each other and rolled our eyes. Lol
Dd got president of her club!!! She did a great job speaking and leading the ceremony in front of everyone at the banquet!!! She will lead a 10 officer team plus all general members.
Ds is signed up for classes in the fall. So he will be doing classes online, while on standby status, meaning he has to be within 2 hours of base in NC, as part of the 82nd Airborne. He got the cutest letters yesterday from a bunch of 4th graders. Asking how do you become airborne, what do you think about jumping out of planes, are you scared.

I know it’s Friday, but I have some updates. yesterday we had a meeting with DD2’s teacher, guidance counselor, and the gifted staff. They’ve decided to create a full gifted/high achieving second grade class for next year and they will place her in it. I think she will love it and hopefully it’ll alleviate some of the “school is boring I know everything” we’ve been seeing.
DD1 got into safety patrol. I honestly do not see the appeal but she’s very excited, lol. Her essay was good, I’ll give her that.
Giant yard project is done. Really hoping the cold (for Florida) winter and improved drainage will mean fewer mosquitos this year. M
H hired a company to deep clean for my bday/mothers day. They’re here now. A team of three people is cleaning my house. I feel like a slob, lol.
mae0111 I recently saw an Instagram reel (I know, not medical advice) about someone with ADHD binge eating not because of a hunger need but rather needing sensory input from chewing. I wish I could find the reel but she was basically saying she just can’t get enough of the chewing sensation. I’m trying to Google ADHD, Sensory, and Binge Eating together but coming up empty on research.
There is definitely something about her mouth moving. She concentrates best when she’s got something in her mouth - gum, cough drops, etc - but it can be tough on her teeth.
There is some connection between adhd and sugar as well. She craves sugary everything.
Hell, my DD is not ADHD but is constantly chewing on something…hair, hoodie strings, random stuff she finds….two weeks ago she had a rock in her mouth at a campground. A rock!!
DS went through a chewing stage. I bought him some chewy things off Amazon after he accidentally swallowed a dollar coin. Well it didn’t go all the way down got stuck in his throat and luckily he threw it up outside the ER. But I digress. He has SPD and eventually outgrew the chewing issue.
