I am so excited we have a long weekend. I think I’m going to work a couple of hours today, but overall I’m just taking a quiet day. DD has her school’s version of elementary graduation this morning. Then both kids have class parties. DD’s class is going to an arcade/bowling place. DS’s is at school.
DS last night when I said today was the last day yelled, “Yeah! Now I get to CRUSH this crappy year!” with fist pumps. It was awesome. And we met with his new counselor yesterday. She’s less play-therapy focused and offers a little more direction. DS liked her. We liked her. So I’m feeling hopeful.
mommyatty, I hope summer break and the new therapist are a good reset for your son! He deserves it!
I am so ready for this long weekend! I also have a relatively quiet day today, just a few reports to wrap up before next week. That's a good thing, because our new fridge is being delivered this afternoon so I'll have to empty the current one and deal with getting everything swapped over when that happens. I was joking with beau that he should make sure he's not here when the delivery people come so I can play the clueless single mom card since I'm terrified that getting our old fridge out and the new one is going to be a nightmare with how tiny our house is. He did not find that amusing. lol
We have the girls' birthday party on Sunday afternoon, but otherwise lots of relaxing time on the docket!
Work is super busy right now and I have so much to do so the team can start testing on Tuesday. Looks like I'll be putting in a few hours over the long weekend so I don't feel unprepared/lost.
Tomorrow morning I am going to a knife self defense seminar. Then I want to mulch the flower beds out front so the weeds will stop growing. Maybe a few hours of work and then a relaxing evening in the cool weather. Might be a good night to have a fire.
On Sunday, my family is having a memorial for my aunt that died back in February. I'll be happy to see aunts/uncles/cousins, but not for the circumstances around it.
On Monday, we'll go to a cookout at my parents' house. We're also celebrating my brother's 50th birthday.
Then next week is DD's and DS1's last week of school. Hello summer! Camp will start in 2 weeks for all 3. It is only from 9-12 every morning, but it will be good for them to get out every day.
I'm sitting at a repair shop waiting to get a state inspection sticker. I got here 10 minutes before they started doing inspections for the day and it was already a 90 min wait. Oh well, just planning to get some work done.
The kids get out of school at 1130 today. It was barely worth them going - they have Mass and like an hour of learning, so probably no learning at all. Almost as soon as I get out of here, I'll have to head down to get them. I was hoping they could have friends over today to swim, but the weather isn't great and something is wrong with the pool pump. So DH will be working on that this weekend.
DD2 has 3-4 soccer games Sat and Sun, all at odd times. 10am, 6pm Sat and 2:15 and 4:45 (if they win all the other games) Sun. I'm not confident that the schedule will go as planned because they're now predicting strong thunderstorms with hail on Saturday afternoon... But I will probably do most of that running around while DH works around the house. No plans on Monday, and the kids also have Tuesday off. The weather looks great both of those days, so maybe a last minute cookout or something.

I’m working but the rest of my team is off so I’m not sure how much I’ll get done. It’s been a quiet week.
School got out Wednesday and my girls are visiting my folks. I’ll either pick them up tonight or Saturday morning. We had originally planned to visit H’s sister and her kids this weekend but they’re all sick with some kind of flu so I think it’ll be a nice weekend at home. DD1 has a friend who invited her over, maybe I’ll try to scare up a play date for DD2 or take her roller skating or something. There’s a new exhibit at the science museum I’d like to see but idk that I want to make that trip on a holiday weekend.
One week until we go to the beach! I’ll have to work some during it — I have a project launch and I’m new so I have limited pto anyway — but I’ll be working at the beach!
Badly need a 3 day weekend!! I don't know what we are doing tonight. Either out to dinner, downtown for live music, or just grilling and chilling with wine from the new wine glass Dd bought me.
All if our friends are going to the cabin and lake for the weekend. We are going tomorrow night. I'm kind of bummed that we are not going all weekend. But DH doesn't really even want to do one night. Plus it was supposed to be a chill, floating, fishing, cooking weekend. Now they are all bringing their Atv side by sides. We have a wheeler, but not those and we really don't ride much. We don't really see spending $25000 on an Atv, when we really don't like it that much. I told Dh we need to invest in our own, land, lake, pool or something so we can make our own plans. You really can't complain about the activity, when it's not your place.
I'm soo tired. DH is driving me crazy with his side business. And then he thought it was a good idea to tell me at 5am that he was sorry. Sweet apology but he totally startled/ scared me awake and then I couldn't go back to sleep and then I cried for a while because he took over the shower (and that wouldn't have been an issue if we got our new bathroom built) and because I was so tired. And he was literally only in the shower for like 3 minutes. Then I was an hour late to work because I was so tired, but I don't want to stay home because then he will tell me to come with him for the weekend.
He is taking the kids tonight, and apparently I am meeting them tomorrow with the dog. I totally plan on getting there late tomorrow so I can have more time to myself or maybe I'll just show up Sunday or never. Whatever. I'm pretty done with both him and parenting and the end of the school year crap. 2 more school days to go...
DH tried to plan a Memorial Day barbeque.. with his volleyball team. I told him no. I feel a little like an asshole, since we don't have other plans, but I also.. don't want to spend my day off hosting a relatively close group of people that I don't know well, that are 15+ years younger than me, and that have no kids. I told him Memorial Day is for friends and family, and while they may all be friends, the rest of the family doesn't play into the equation. Let alone having to clean for and up after an event that I don't really care about.
I feel good about my decision. But then part of me feels bad. His volleyball team is all nice people, although very young and at a different stage of life... and a few of them are really socially awkward. I'm totally cool hosting them in general.. just... not on the holiday for some reason.

polecat8, good for you in taking a knife defense class. Knife training day was always my least favorite when i was a LEO. The facts are scary. It probably didn't help that our trainers had an electric knife that hurt when you got shocked.
rere, Beau keeps thinking about getting a side by side, but everyone he knows that has one says the maintence costs are insane! One friend says he goes through a $300 belt every time he takes it out. I keep talking him out of it because of the cost and I'd rather ride my bike than in a side by side.
DS is home for the 2nd day in a row. The school district cancelled school these last two days after the lockdown on Wednesday and they are promising to get these days exempt from make up.
After I drop DS off at his dad's tonight, Beau and I are headed up to a local mountain to camp off grid. I'm excited to get away from it all since it's been such a crazy week at home and with work. We won't even have cell service. Beau's son was going to come up to go riding but he started a new vehicle project and wants to do that instead. Beau's cousins were going to camp with us but they now have COVID. I'm ok with the cousins not coming since they just want to binge drink and the wife is a loud mouth. So it looks like just Beau and I hanging out around the fire and jumping on our bikes for some fun trail rides.
We started a sticker chart for almost-5-year-old DS2 this morning to try to get him to not wake us up at the literal crack of dawn at 5:45 am, and it worked. If he quietly goes downstairs to watch his tablet when he wakes up for 5 days in a row, we'll take him to a Target or Dollar Tree for a small toy. Fingers crossed it keeps working this weekend - the extra hour of sleep was amazing.
Our softball league hosts their all-star tournament this weekend and teams come from all around. It should be fun, and it's nice that the games will be so close, though it means I have 4 hours of snack bar duty. Tonight DD has her first game of the weekend. DH and I had plans to go out with some good friends, so we're having the babysitter come a little early so we can both watch the softball game (without trying to supervise the little boys at the same time) and then meet our friends. The rest of the weekend will just be softball and hopefully some pool/beach time if the May Gray goes away and the sun comes out. DD plays catcher and gets super hot, so at least the cool weather is good for her.
rere and supertrooper1, I was confused about what a side by side was - since twinmomma was just talking about her new refrigerator, and that's what I think of when I hear side by side
They brought the wrong ice maker with our new fridge. I've called Home Depot twice and been disconnected twice trying to get it resolved. Someone is going to feel my wrath pretty soon. The broken ice maker is one of the many things that was wrong with the old fridge and why we wanted to replace it!
DD2 has the third part of a book report due on Wednesday and has not started it. I've been prepping her all week that she needed to work on it today and in between games tomorrow.
She just announced that she left her folder, with all of the information about the project, at school. School closed 3 hours ago - I dropped her off and ran a number of silly errands for DH and DD1, and by the time I got home to help her, we realized the folder wasn't in her bag.
Ugh.
So I'm scrambling emailing other parents to see if someone can send me a photo, but a lot of kids finished the assignment and turned it in already. We're just so busy during the week that we barely got the first 2 pieces of the assignment in on time, let alone get anything done early.
I'm also slightly annoyed with the teacher. At the beginning of the year, she made a big deal about making sure all the parents were well-trained on the online system, and insisted that she would post all assignments and spelling words there. Like, gave the parents homework assignments consisting of scavenger hunts in the portal. So I went to grab the book report info from her assignment page... and there hasn't been anything posted there since October. Cooooooool....
mae0111- can you text the teacher or message thru the portal? I would! If the expectation is assignments are available there, then they need to be available there.
2 kids, a dog, and a husband gone! It’s so nice and quiet! DH says oh see you night and early tomorrow ha yeah right more like 6 pm on Saturday. His parents are coming over to “help”. His mom just had surgery and is high maintenance and the last time FIL “helped” it did not go well. So I’m not rushing over and the to do list is long. I kind of want to stay here alone all weekend!
ETA- I was supposed to hear today on the soccer team, and I’m getting kind of annoyed. If you aren’t going to email Friday then don’t say you will email Friday. I get this is the coach’s third year doing this but it should not be “new”.
mommyatty - I was able to get it from another parent. The teacher definitely doesn’t check emails off-hours regularly (with 4 kids of her own, it’s understandable). 11 days left and I don’t want to rock the boat. DD2 knew she had to do this… she should have remembered…
She did knock out a chunk of it today, which was great. I’d say she has about 25% left. Such a relief.

The correct ice maker is apparently back ordered indefinitely. I’m so mad. Home Depot doesn’t care even a little that their website displays incorrect info. The only feature beau cared about was an ice maker. I’ve scoured Home Depot, Lowes, and other stores to find a fridge that will fit our stupid tiny kitchen and there’s basically nothing out there. So I can’t even realistically have Home Depot take this one away and replace it.
I am fully aware that this is a super first world problem. But I just want what I paid for! Ugh.
twinmomma - have you tried any smaller shops? Sometimes we have luck with the mom and pop appliance stores. We bought all kitchen appliances from this awesome no-frills warehouse type place and they often have scratch and dent models on the floor that you can take with you (if you can fit it in your vehicle).
The weather is crap this weekend. Wet cold and miserable. Visiting friends in the eastern side of the state and it is the same but with a chance of snow flurries. DD and I are hanging with the dogs today while friends and DH golf. Normally not a big deal because we are outside enjoying the amazing views and yard but it's raining so we are trying to find inside activities. Ugh
Sunday we may go for a short hike and Monday we will need to drive home with all the other crazy people. It cost 98 dollars to fill up DHs truck! We are going to have to figure out summer as gas budget is going to go through the roof.
We just got back from Yellowstone and the tetons. It was my first time going and it was amazing. My H and I are seriously considering moving to Wyoming in the next 5 years. His job is 100% remote so I just need to work towards a remote job as well.
We love where we are but, we are tired of the heat, I want seasons again.
The trip was fun, but the flight out was a disaster. They cancelled our direct flight and we missed our connection. Luckily our family of 5 was able to get on another flight via standby. But it was more than 24hours straight of travel.
Then when we landed we found out we had a massive water leak and the utilities shut off our water. We got home and found out it was just our water sprinklers and not the house water, so that was a pleasant surprise.
mae0111, I tried the local place that everyone raves about. Unfortunately, the only ones that they have that would fit our space would be drastically smaller. We can squeeze an 18 cubic foot into the space, but the local place only had some that were like 11 or 12 cubic feet to meet our dimensions. Not ideal for a family of five. We've resigned ourselves to just getting the ice maker someday when the supply chain gets sorted out.
rere and supertrooper1, I was confused about what a side by side was - since twinmomma was just talking about her new refrigerator, and that's what I think of when I hear side by side
Its a cross between a 4wheeler and a jeep. They are super expensive and cost about as much as a car. For something you are going to go through the woods, drop off in creeks, and get stuck in the mud.
xctsclrx my DH also wants to move to Wyoming, mainly for tax reasons I have a couple clients there and he tagged along with me on a trip last year. The people I work with there are SO nice.
