Anyone else potty training this weekend and want a place to chat?
DS will be 3 in August and we're going for it this weekend. I need him to be PT by September if I want him to do a Saturday program and this summer will be busy so this might be our best chance.
I took him to Target last night to pick out underwear (Blippi!), juice boxes (WooWhoo (aka Yoohoo), and a special toy he can play with after 5 successful pees (a remote control recycling truck).
I was planning to...DD is young (23 months) but she had been showing interest and I've heard that some kids are receptive to PTing right before they turn 2. But this has been a rough week (personally and universally) and I don't feel like I have the mental energy for it right now. Maybe we'll try Labor Day instead; that's what we did for DS (albeit he was 6 months older at the time) and it worked great.
Ooohhhh....good luck. That will be me next year at this time with my youngest. I hate potty traiing - I would rather sleep train any day! Luckily I'm 3/4 done and only have one to go. Hopefully your kid catches on super fast! We used treats like an M&M per potty as motivation.

Thanks all! Guess it’s just me this weekend! I’ll keep you all posted I’m sure since it’s better than posting on social media and my H gets tired of updates. 😂
Margarita has been poured, couches are covered, carpet rolled and I’m ready to go. My H should be home with the kids soon.
icedcoffee, good luck. I did this many years ago. My son was a nightmare, and my daughter was a dream. This is not gendered, as I have heard some boys are great at PTing, just not mine. And some girls are terrible.
Fingers crossed you get kids that are great at it!

Oh my older one was a challenge so I’m not hopeful but we will see! I washed so much poop out of underwear with that one. 😱
We have been talking about it with DS, but IDK when we'll go for it. He's turning 3 next week, and has verbalized to me that he doesn't know "how" to pee, like he doesn't connect the feeling with the outcome. He announces he has a stink nugget after it happens, but he doesn't say he's going to poop. We've tried sitting on the potty, but almost no success. He's in pull ups, but I think they keep him too dry to learn much.
Does it work better to PT little boys to stand and pee, or sit on the potty? My first was a girl!
I feel like I totally missed an opportunity, he was just home for like 10 straight days with covid. Should've made better use of it, he was fine by like day 3.

Sit. They make such a mess standing and a lot of toilets are too high. In my opinion it’s hard for them to verbalize potty skills before you actually go for it.
Pull ups have never worked for us. Even as a nap/bedtime thing. For ds1 he leaked through them after less than 1 pee. DS2 doesn’t drink as much and is a peanut so we might use them for nap and bedtime with him.
waverly my DD was also way easier, but that was likely birth order (more eager to please) and the fact that her daycare provider at the time did a lot of it for me.
icedcoffee I'm sure this is flammable - but we just trash the really gross pooped in underwear!

I could never bring myself to trash it but man was it tempting. It was literally daily for…months.
It’s day 2 so I’m about to start caffeinating myself. We had 1 successful pee yesterday and few tinkles on the floor while eating dinner. I think it will just take time for him to forget releasing pee while eating. Thank god for tiled floors!

He pooped in the potty! It took my older one 2 MONTHS just to do this once so I am over the moon. It was a sneaky one too. When no one was looking and he didn’t tell us about it.
Still lots of pee accidents. lots of successes too. I’m now out for wine because it has been a day.
We need to go to a party tomorrow so I’m a little nervous. I think we will do shorts and no underwear. 😬 (and bring like 10 pairs)
The final day is here! He has been doing pretty well. Peeing and pooping with only a few sprinkles of pee on the floor. So last night we went to a party. Did a pull up in the car. Dry both ways. At the party was a disaster. Peed his shorts and the we put him in his swimsuit and he peed that multiple times. Dry pull up on the way home and peed in the potty when we got home. Awesome.
Back to bottomless this morning. A great pee in the potty so I tried shorts and he immediately pooped in them. So…back to bottomless but idk how the hell he will go to school tomorrow.
I definitely don’t want to go back to a diaper so I’m thinking shorts but no undies but I don’t feel good about his success at all. 😞
Tonight we’re going to my in-laws pool. We will bring the potty and hope for the best but I think he’ll just end up pissing in his swimsuit and shorts.
Ahhhh!!! Normally by day 4 they should be ready for something on the bottom! He’s great naked but we can’t live life like that. LOL
What a roller coaster! I don't know what kind of undies you have but DD's daycare absolutely insisted on undies. So we got boxer style undies so they'd feel less like a diaper and they worked. Actually she still wears that style 3 years later. Haha.
Good luck tonight! Sounds like good progress even with the setbacks.
We are doing it and it’s not going well. She is 2 years 3 months. It’s day 3 and we have 100% accidents and 0 success. She knows what the potty is for, will happily sit on it when prompted but will not pee/poop in it. She pees on herself and it doesn’t bother her. She doesn’t even tell us. 🤷🏼♀️ I don’t know if we should persist or wait a month or 2 and start over.

Sounds like maybe she could use some more time. I think by day 3 I would expect at least a few successes.
With my older one by day 3 I felt really good. So good I actually kept him home for a 4th day just to practice some more.
DS2 isn’t doing AS well. I don’t feel like one more day would make a difference so I won’t bother. I am going to send him diaperless though and we will plan to do naked time every night this week after school if he’s having a lot of accidents at school.
DS2 is doing much better on poop though. It was an ordeal with DS1. OMG. Months.

My guy, who PT'd for pee in like a day, still goes through bouts of daily poop accidents at 5.5. He'll be great and not have any accidents for months, and then he has near daily accidents for months. We would be broke if we trashed all the poopy underwear he's gone through, lol.
We're in the midst of yet another bad spell, and it's taking everything in my power not to get visibly frustrated at this point. I don't want to give him more of a complex about poop than he already has but man...im so tired of cleaning poopy underwear.
janegold , near daily accidents for months would definitely have resulted in me trying to salvage the underwear! For us in the first few months after PTing, like once or twice a week, preschool would give us bagged underwear that had poop sitting in it all day after an accident. That went straight to the trash. I also have 3 boys, so by this point we have a ridiculous number of pairs of 3-year-old boy underwear. I'm sorry about the continuing accidents for you guys - that's got to be really frustrating.

Omg. That sounds so frustrating. I wonder if it’s an issue with constipation? It can cause diarrhea and accidents. Maybe worth exploring?
I definitely became a pro at cleaning out poopy underwear. :::sobs:::

He went back to daycare today and went through 7 pairs of underwear and shorts. Then came home and peed in the potty twice. Ugh. Hopefully tomorrow is better.

Yes, the pediatrician suggested that could be the issue, even though his frequency/consistency seems normal (sorry, TMI) and he didn't feel blocked up to her. We've tried Miralax on and off without success but we should probably try to be more consistent.
