They recommend 3-8 weeks (which is a wide spread), because "Some studies in adolescents and adults have shown the small risk of myocarditis associated with mRNA COVID-19 vaccines might be reduced and peak antibody responses and vaccine effectiveness may be increased with an interval longer than 4 weeks. An 8-week interval may be optimal for people who are not moderately or severely immunocompromised and ages 5–64 years, especially for males ages 12–39 years."
The 3-doses is already a long time, and I'm curious what other parents/doctors are choosing.
DS is scheduled for his first dose tomorrow, but I haven't scheduled his other doses yet. We're going to a pediatrician, different from his primary physician. But his 2-yr Wellness visit (with his primary physician) is 4w 3d from his first dose. I'm going to talk to the doctor we see tomorrow (and reach out to his primary), but I'm wondering if it's easy enough to get doses 2 & 3 from a different office/provider, and if a little over 4w is long enough.
It looks like the BA1 surge is basically just floating into the BA4/5 surge with only a marginal dip in cases, with a full blown BA4/5 surge expected to be underway probably in about a month. With that I wouldn’t space doses out from the minim interval, although 4.5 weeks is fine since it sounds like that works with your appt timing. Pfizer already takes a long time to get to full efficacy. Booster eligibility, expected sometime this fall for this population, will also be calculated as time from last dose of the primary series so for those looking for the real protection a booster provides (the 3rd primary series Pfizer dose is NOT a booster) that may also factor in longer spacing as it will delay booster eligibility. Unclear what the exact booster timing will be, likely somewhere in the 3 month range based on Moderna’s trial
Edit: I deeeefinitely would not space it due to myocarditis risk. It is incredibly low in the <5 age bracket with no cases at all in the trial cohort, and likely even lower for Pfizer than for Moderna. Covid has a much higher chance of giving your kid myocarditis than the vaccine.
Thank you PPs with <5 after-vaccination updates. I was able to schedule my 23-month old for an appointment on 06/25!
We've been battling a stomach bug (Memorial Day weekend) and a bacterial-infection rash (for the last 2-weeks), and it just feels like a never-ending cycle of crap. We all had Covid in January, and local Covid rates have been over 200/100K since mid-April. I've been fearing reinfection, but hope we can beat it until his third shot (Pfizer).
Are you wanting Pfizer, or is that just what was first available? I'm local to you and got Moderna, so if you're on the hunt for that and would prefer it, let me know and I can give you some suggestions.
Pfizer is what I could find near me (just North of Seattle). All I could find for Moderna was way South, North, or East of where we can go easily, or Moderna offered for 3+ year olds.
Please let me know any suggestions of appointments for <2 year olds. Thank you!

Is walking in at a SeaMar clinic feasible for you? Not sure if your work schedule will allow you to do that. The closest one for you is probably Everett, so not super close, but it gets your kid to full protection much faster. They’re doing 6m+.
ETA: Kaiser is also doing Moderna for 6m+ so you could call them.
Thank you for the info!
My H will probably be the one taking DS to get any vaccines, I'm passing this on to him.
DD2 got her first dose today!!! 🎉🎉🎉 She did great! I thought I’d cry or be emotional, but I wasn’t. It was kind of anticlimactic. But I’m happy. She will be fully vaccinated just in time for our summer vacation.
And as I predicted (to myself, even though I didn’t listen) appts are now much easier to come by. Which is great, but also shows few people seem to have the urgency that I did. Oh well, at least now everyone who wants one can get it. Let’s hope the worst is behind us.

A 3-year-old I know was showing off her vaccine band-aid this weekend. Her mom said she was really upset and scared about it, because she thought she was going to the doctor to get swabbed and of course she detests getting swabbed. When she found out it was "just a shot" she was totally chill about it.
It makes me so happy to hear about all these kiddos getting their shots! I mean, wish it would have been way before now, but I'm so glad it is happening.
