Definitely don’t put him in exh’s class. It will be really hard to be in a parent’s class for anyone. But especially given how your exh is, you know he’d play games and use it against you. Think of the info exh would withhold from you because “he’s handling it” all year.
I can’t imagine there’s not a rule that says you can’t teach your own kid! That cannot be right. But it sucks that your ex will have the only advanced class. He couldn’t teach a different grade or step aside to let another teacher have the advanced kids for next year?

I will teach my kid next year. It’s not that uncommon
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
DH had his mom every year for a teacher. She taught PE K-8 in a very small school district.
Most teachers I know who teach elementary try to avoid having their own kid in their class. I see kids having their parents as teachers more often in middle and high school especially if their parent teaches honors classes.
DH had his dad for a teacher in HS, so definitely not unheard of. It was driver's ed, so nothing huge. (Although.. slightly terrifying that FIL was responsible for teaching that many kids to drive for that many years, since he's the absolute WORST driver I've ever been in a car with.)
I just.. don't know a single parent on the face of the planet who would WANT to teach their own child. I wonder if erbear is the exception?

In 8th grade, nonetheless 😂. As of the last day of 7th grade, she’s pumped. I asked her if she wanted me to move to 7th for the year; thankfully, she said no. DD2 might be a different story.
I think she’ll be fine. She will only have me for one class. She’s a bit of a pain to teach (adhd) but she’s a good student and a pretty easy kid these days and I’m not too worried about it.

I think one class for an older kid could be reasonable, but I think having a parent as an elementary teacher almost all day everyday wouldn't be my preference.

At our little school when a teacher was going to be the student's elementary school teacher, they moved her to a different grade (or maybe she asked? I don't know). Having said that, there are a lot of teacher's whose kids go to our school and there have definitely been some who teach their kid in specials. And probably will be one who eventually teaches his kid English in middle school.
However, I know a family from our old montessori school - the parents got divorced and the dad took a job as a teaching assistant in the class so that he'd have his kid for 3 years plus after school care. The mom was talking to me about switching her kid to our school so that wouldn't happen anymore. I couldn't help but wonder since it was happening already if she'd get to do that or not.
