It's the last full week of school for my kids. It's a beautiful day and I was thinking of telling them to invite some friends over to swim, but they both have colds and aren't feeling their best. So maybe just a quiet afternoon/evening tonight. DD2 and I have some veggies to plant that came from a DD1's friend's mom, so we'll probably get that done.
DH is away all weekend, so I'll take both kids to DD1's softball game tomorrow. DD2 made plans with a friend a week ago, so assuming she's OK (she seems to be on an upswing), her friend will come over and swim after the game. Sunday we have... nothing!! I can't remember the last time that happened. So I will do tons of laundry, finish camp packing, start packing the camper for DH's and kids' trip next weekend. Maybe take a ride to visit my parents. I don't know when DH is planning to come home, and since it's a boys' weekend, I don't anticipate that he will be in any shape to do anything when he arrives anyway. So I will plan without him.
Beau and I are heading into Boston to see a show tonight! We're going to wander a bit in the theater district and grab apps and drinks somewhere too.
Tomorrow I go cheer on the girls at their Girls on the Run 5k. Then, no plans for the rest of the weekend. Beau's working and we have no kids. I'm going to catch up on laundry and brace myself for the last week of school.
Last day at the beach. I plan on packing a cooler and being either in the sand or water all day. It's been a fantastic week, but we will be traveling all day tomorrow. Sunday will be catching up on groceries and yard work before the work week.

Today is our wedding anniversary so the kids will sleep over at my parents and DH and I will go for a couples' massage, then dinner.
Tomorrow we have DD's "parents vs. kids" soccer game and social event - it should be lots of fun. She's on a great soccer team this year and the kids and parents are all very lovely.
Other than that, we just have the usual piano / soccer practices; but we finally finished power washing our deck through the week, so we'll put together the rest of our deck furniture and hopefully have everything set up by the end of the weekend.
DH and I are going strawberry picking at a local farm after work. We also have to pick up our CSA basket. I'm so excited that we are getting an abundance of strawberries and some rhubarb. DH makes the best strawberry-rhubarb crumble pie. My brother is finally coming over tomorrow to replace the deck that we tore down over a year ago. DS1 and I are going to taekwondo tomorrow morning. There is a big celebration for their 3-year anniversary, so they have some advanced classes along with a carnival. It is going to be a lot of fun. There are no solid plans for Saturday evening or Sunday. At some point, I need to get the kids to pick out a gift for DH for Fathers day. And I have to put in some hours for work.

Schools out so I got to sleep in today because we didn’t have to get the boys ready and out the door and I work from him on Fridays so had an extra hour this morning to sleep. Ds1 came Home exhausted yesterday, said he didn’t feel well, and fell asleep on the couch so we let him skip soccer. He slept for 2 hours (it’s unheard of that he naps) and felt great when he woke up so that’s a relief. DH leaves tomorrow for a week for his overseas work trip so we have a free ish weekend but lots of things to do like get groceries, haircuts, etc.

My grandma passed away Wednesday so I’ve been down this week. She had had a major stroke in April and a secondary event a couple of weeks later so I’m glad she’s not suffering anymore but still sad.
Beau and I decided last minute this morning that we're packing up the trailer and our bikes and headed over the mountains to Eastern Washington. We've been waiting for one spot to open up for riding due to a late deep snow pack this year. We were going to have a low key weekend and go see the new Top Gun movie, but he didn't want to sit around. I have a feeling he's stressed from the fire this week and needs a distraction. I'm ok with this plan.
I went to the parent meeting for safety camp. It’s a family charity so they are a bit awkward. DH keeps making fun of me for sending them. But his parents created such a bad home environment that he chose to bike for hours rather than be home so he was very free range. And my kids are not very free range. So his experience was not very safe- lots of bike accidents far from home, but ultimately fine in the end.
It actually sounds super fun. They get to do training with the firefighters and escape a burning building simulation. They do a bike rodeo the other day and go to the police station. The police station isn’t as exciting but there will be a K9 dog there. They learn about 60 safety topics. I think it’s going to be good.
I'm having a minor cosmetic surgery this afternoon - an upper eyelid "lift" - basically the surgeon is removing some droopy skin from my eyelids. I'm having it done in-office with just local anesthesia, and the procedure itself only takes 20-30 minutes. But it's downtown and DH has to drive me and there will likely be bad traffic coming back home. So I have a super complicated set of back up plans to get kids home and get DD to her softball tournament game in case it runs late or we get stuck in traffic. I guess being nervous about the logistics is letting me be less nervous about the actual procedure. So I'll be laying low this weekend. Best case scenario the impact can be hidden behind sunglasses and I can have a pretty normal weekend, but we'll see.
DD has a softball tournament game tonight at 6:45 pm and tomorrow at 12:50 pm, and then TBD on Sunday. The tournament is about 40 minutes away. The temperatures here and at our home softball field pretty much never break 70 degrees, including this weekend, but the town where the tournament is located, inland, will be 90 degrees this weekend. DD runs hot normally and is going to be pretty miserable in her catcher gear. I ordered her some cooling towels.

My kids would love safety camp from the sounds of it. Like they would never want to leave.

I had to search and ask around to find it since most around here are for ages 5-6. This is for ages 8-11.
I’m finally done with this stupid fucking year. After single-handedly planning and pulling off the 8th grade graduation last night (seriously, I even had to get the parking and tech because apparently no one else ever considered these things), not a single parent said thank you after the ceremony. I am so done with this group and I left immediately afterwards because I didn’t want to say something I’d regret.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
erbear, any issues with the parents of your trans student at/after the ceremony?
It was a shit show. We read their tributes by saying their full names, then address the kid how using any nicknames (so like “Elizabeth Taylor. Liz, blah blah blah”). We landed on just using the kid’s last name when I called them, but you know I then said their name
Parents were probably mad but they didn’t talk to me afterwards 🤷♀️

Today we went to brunch with some friends whose kids go to school with ours. Then to an arcade place. Tomorrow I have to leave on a business trip but luckily will be home for bedtime Monday.
Busy busy weekend DD is officially 11! Auntie took her to get a pedicure this morning. Spa place called me at 9:15, it was DD, Auntie passed out and they had to call 911 so can I come fast. I flew to grab my dad and we flew across town. Sis is fine but no way she was going to drive. But an exciting morning for DD and the paramedics sang her happy birthday. Rest of today has been birthday related. Tomorrow is watching her friend H graduate and then the gym banquet. I'll be happy for a quiet Monday.
