She’s not eating much anymore. We have to have her on the RX food, otherwise it isn’t pretty. We mix the wet and dry together, give her just dry, give her just wet, mix it with carrots (the only other thing she can eat that we’ve tried that doesn’t upset her stomach).
She had a full work up done at the vet maybe 3 months ago, and she was fine.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
Has your vet tried tylan powder? There's something called antibiotic-responsive diarrhea that is probably related to human SIBO. I don't love overuse of antibiotics, but two of our elderly dogs have had awful stomach issues (like once we even brought her to the e-vet because we thought she had bloat, but it was just massive gas and puking and diarrhea). The tylan powder resolves it quickly, but if she's off of it for more than a week, it comes back. So we just order the powder (Rx) and put it in capsules ourselves. There was basically no food she could eat that wouldn't make her sick, and she didn't want to eat because she felt shitty.
Apologies if you've already tried this. The other thing you can try is zofran (cheap, sometimes lingering nausea just makes them not want to eat at all) or entyce (appetite stimulant).

We have not tried this! Thank you, I’ll ask the vet!
My dog is picky and can’t eat chicken either. When he’s not eating I boil lean ground beef and mix it with rice. Maybe throw in a little pumpkin. He eats it all and it settles his stomach.
My dog is a pain and will starve himself if his food is too bland. We now have him on Simply Nourish Lamb and Oatmeal. It has lots of different stuff in it and no chicken/poultry meal (he’s allergic). We top it with ham and he eats it without complaint. I am sure there are better foods out there—but every time we would try one, he would eat for a week and then just stop eating unless he was starving. I ended up at PetSmart after we had him a few months (he was already a senior dog) reading all the labels to find a chicken-free kibble. He has eaten it for 4 years now without much complaint.

She literally can eat nothing but her food and carrots. We tried pumpkin about 6 months ago and it was not pretty.
I’ll ask about an appetite stimulant next time.
We heated up her canned food tonight, and my god it smelled so fucking bad, but she ate it all! Hopefully, it’s not a fluke.

Our senior girls need their food heated or stronger smelling food - I think they can't smell food as well as they age or if they aren't feeling well.

Just as an FYI, I've read it's not good to microwave canned dog and cat foods. The best way to heat them up is to place the can in shallow bath of warm water.

My mom has always mixed canned food with hot water to make a sort of gravy and pours it over dry food. It looks and smells gross, but her animals love it!

Oh crap. Ok good to know, I’ll make sure to do this in the future.
FTI: she’s eaten all her meals since I started doing this. I’m so happy!

I thought my dog was dying, seriously.
My dog is 11 or 12 and has started having some appetite issues (maybe 1x a week) recently, so I’m making notes.

My dog would be okay for a bit and then we'd have to change it up a bit. Starting with a general mix or dry and wet, then added rice, removed wet but then added green beans and rice, a little chicken sometimes, parmesan sometimes, whatever the last bite of our dinner is

Oh no! Your little sweet potato💕. Glad to hear she is eating again. (I just saw this post)

My dog is on Rx food and we’ve been doing the 20 seconds in the microwave (dry food topped with a little canned) then mixing it all together for a while now. She won’t eat it cold. I’ll do some googling, but what is the concern with it?
