I cannot figure out how Reese's book club and production company pick their books. At least half, if not more, are terrible. I've heard more bad than good about Where the Crawdads Sing so I never read it. I did power through The Last Thing He Told Me and not only is it more than half plagiarizing of another book, it was just a badly written book. I still want to know what happened to Jake, he just disappeared!
Announced my engagement to my family. My sister and her pastor husband have let me know I’m “entering into an adulterous relationship” because divorce is never allowed and I’ll be cheating on my ex-h by getting married again 🤔🤔
They’re very “concerned” that I’m headed for hell.
I knew they weren’t happy about my divorce, and they really weren’t happy that I have the audacity to be happy after a divorce, but I didn’t realize that whole hot mess was their stance.
My family will all be together for my younger brothers wedding in 2 weeks, so this should be fun!
Today is my 40th birthday and I’m feeling kind of blah. Not about the age, but I wish I was doing more to celebrate. I’m working and then going to my parent’s for dinner. I do have a spa day with bff planned, so looking forward to that. H’a 40th is tomorrow, so we’re going out to dinner tomorrow night to celebrate both. Just feels kind of…anti-climatic, I guess.
Happy birthday!! I hope the spa day is nice! Maybe take off a random day and do something else fun too? Shared dinners and working doesn’t sound very festive!
Trying to decide if I should keep reading Where the Crawdads Sing or pass it along to a friend. It got lots of praise, but it just seems flat to me so far.
I was truly shocked that became a hit. I read the ARC months before it came out and thought it would totally flop despite the obvious PR push. It was not good IMO

I’ve tried with that book three times. I can’t do it.
My work keyboard has an infrequent thing where it will sometimes register a whole bunch of “A”s if I tap the key just so. It’s infrequent enough that instead of being irritated, I’m still amused at feeling like a piraaaaaate. Lol.
Everyone talking about their 40th birthdays being anti-climatic are making me feel better about my pending 40th in three weeks. Having a summer birthday is hard in my family and friend circle because everyone is so busy so we just squeeze in a dinner and cake if I'm lucky. Last October we went to Nashville for DH's 40th birthday so mine feels even more anti-climatic.

Mine was anticlimactic too! My mom had just been diagnosed with brain cancer so we canceled everything. She did feel up to having steamed crabs that weekend which was nice. For my husband’s we went to Maine!
Then we thought we’d have a do over and Covid hit. I’m aiming for something fun when turn 45 and about six months later it will be our 20th anniversary so double the excuse, right? But I’m scared of jinxing it, a lot can happen in the upcoming years!
jane6672 - Congratulations!! Fuck them. Enjoy your happiness!
My immediate urge was to reply “Get fucked!”
But I settled for “I appreciate* your concern.” Even though I would have liked to point out that if they truly thought my soul was in danger of eternal damnation, they might have bothered to say something? Anything? Years before instead of waiting till now and shitting on my news… makes the “concern” ring very hollow. But not engaging in discussion is the best path and *bonus* is going to piss them off.
*appreciate is a lie. For which I guess I’m also going to hell.

I'd probably add something like, "Good thing I don't believe in hell, then!"

Congratulations jane6672! And happy birthday to all the new 40 year olds!
If anyone remembers my whole UK passport saga, you may be as amused as I was to learn that my new passport arrived yesterday, exactly on the old one's expiration date, 6 weeks after I sent it off for renewal, way before the estimate despite the horror stories of massive delays. So all my stress over whether I could travel on my US passport or not was for nothing. I'm laughing at the universe's reminder that I shouldn't freak out about things before it's actually necessary (I am 100% going to continue to freak out in advance, always).

that is amazing!!!! I am releived for you. When are you heading to the UK?
I’m trying to think of something to do when our power is out for 6-8 hrs Monday (assuming the power company remains on schedule). My husband is going to go into the office. I cleared my schedule so I don’t have to find a place to work.
I’m hoping it won’t be too hot for the dogs because I really can’t think of a place to go with the two of them but I don’t really want to be home all day either. Even I can’t just read for six hrs straight. Mondays are just boring days! Everyone I know is at work, the museums and a lot of other obvious choices are closed.

I am sorry your birthday has been overshadowed the last few years. I would definitely plan something big for your 45 and 20th but can definitely understand the fear of jinxing. lol
I finally got the cannabis tincture for sleep (it was sold out for a while) and I am 7 nights straight with no pills/pharmaceutical INCLUDING two nights in a hotel (sharing a bed with my chimpanzee 10 y/o. with the windows open) AND some super stressful stuff affecting our lives.

Movie theatre?
If the forecast is hot I’d have some ice in a cooler so you can add it to their water bowls without having to open the freezer.

See a movie! Wander around Target Browse a bookstore or library

Wow so interesting to see a different perspective, I absolutely loved that book and I am do not want to see the movie bc I am unsure if it will ruin the book for me. The only book that i think was spot on with the movie is Of Mice and Men. Loved the book and the interpretation of the movie was spot on. My vote is to keep with it, I am one of those people who will read a book even if I don't like it bc I am book buyer not a library type and I don't like a book to go to waste.

Sunday! I made a bunch of phone calls and found that I could leave Chile, enter the UK and come back to Chile (with them not considering me a tourist for using a different passport) on my US passport, so we booked tickets, but it'll be just that bit less stressful knowing I'm on the "right" passport.

They are turning that book into a movie. I saw the commercial for it yesterday. Looked terrible.

Good idea about the ice! I bet they will enjoy that.
I just have a random vent of the day, why do auto shops always tell you they'll call when your car is done being worked on, and literally NEVER call. Never. This irritates me so much. I don't want to be annoying and impatient so I always wait until late afternoon to bug them, but if I could've had my car back hours ago, I'd like to freaking know.
So weed just became legal in my state a few months ago and I am so so so tempted to get some and just say fuck it, why not? The thing is, I've never done it before and I work for the federal government. i am such a scaredy cat bc I know a lot of my coworkers are partaking but I suck so bad and have bad luck, I'd be the one they randomly tested right after I tried it. UGH.
