We are possibly moving at the end of the summer and will most likely look for a short term rental situation while we house search. Has anyone done this? H is thinking corporate apartments, but I’m thinking AirBnB might be a better place to find a place.
Some Air BNB have long-term rental rates that are significantly cheaper than the normal nightly rates. It might be worth messaging the owner, even if no long-term rates are listed, because they may be able to offer you a better rate, especially if you’re not in a vacation destination.
Otherwise, you’d have to weigh moving/storage costs against the cost of renting a furnished place vs. unfurnished and bring your own (or some of your own) stuff.
We just did this with AirBnB. It worked out great, the only hurdle was we had to choose a set timeframe for the rental, but we ended up finding a house asap. It all worked out but make sure your rental has a 30 day cancellation just in case.
I’ve also done a corporate apartment which has been fine, but we now have 2 dogs and didn’t really want to be in an apartment. The complexes we’ve stayed in in the past have been full of young, fun, noisy neighbors, so proceed with caution (or have fun!).
Will you be staying within the same school system? If not, I'd start by contacting your destination school and learn what sort of rental qualifies.
Our school wants very specific documentation before a kid can enroll and you need to show actual residency - not just ownership - within the district. (a lot of kids end up out of school for the first few weeks if a family buys early August). There are very specific requirements for what leases and secondary evidence are acceptable for proving residency.

We hop to buy in the same area my mom lives in so we’ll just use her address for the school.
ETA: we have looked into doing this and believe we can do this without issue. We are very familiar with stringent residency rules due to our current school.

I'm glad you have that sorted
Here I think we'd need to show a year long lease from my mom and proof of a utility to her address in our name, or something like that. I just know people have been stuck before
