I took my first dose of 2.5 mg on Saturday. Injecting it ending up being no big deal, so thanks for the encouragement on that! So far my only side effects have been body aches, which started yesterday and are not as bad today. I can definitely tell my appetite is suppressed.
Sorry to bump an old thread but I have a question. I got the prescription for Mounjaro and the manufacturer coupon. When I went to Walgreens they said the coupon is only for the copay and I would still have to pay $1000 a month because my insurance won’t cover it. What did I do wrong?

They didn't do the coupon right. Ask them to run it again.

I moved up to 5 mg and my blood sugar is going too low, it's dropping into the 60s and low 70s. So my dr is moving me back down to 2.5 mg. I'm disappointed because this will slow or may stop my weight loss. I have a dr's appointment in Oct so we'll probably re-evaluate then.

Yeah, there definitely seems to be some issues with some pharmacies and the coupon. There are pretty specific instructions in the fine print for them to follow, I actually highlighted them before I went to the pharmacy the first time, and I still had to politely insist that it would work without being covered by my insurance. They seemed dubious but did the steps and it worked perfectly. I'm part of a FB group for people taking this drug and they have some helpful documents put together and for Walgreens the tips they have are: let primary insurance reject, keep in rejection, process OCC3, should give $25 copay after that. Hopefully that helps a little.

Those that have gone through Alpha, can I ask how long it took to get your prescription filled at the pharmacy? I had my initial consult on Aug 6. The prescription was sent that day, but the pharmacy was out so it took about 4 days for them to get it. But then my insurance requested a prior authorization and more information. They have sent the forms to Alpha 4 times now, and never get anything back. Every time I inquire they say oh yes we got them, they’ll be sent back within 7 days. Then I wait a week and we start the process over again. I am so done with the whole thing. And really I just need my insurance to deny it so I can use the coupon, but they won’t do that until they have all the info!
Thanks for the bump on this thread. I missed it the first time around and our PCP has encouraged me to try Ozempic or Trulicity. It looks like our insurance plan doesn’t cover Mounjaro.

It doesn’t matter that your insurance doesn’t cover it. The company has a coverage coupon for $25/month for a year. The pharmacist needs to apply it after insurance denies it.

Thanks, I was just reading thru all this again and I see that. Good! I will have my PCP call it in tomorrow.
I called CVS and told them prior authorization wasn't necessary because it would still be denied. The pharmacist put it in as a denial and used the coupon.
I physically went to the pharmacy 2 weeks ago. The tech was super nice and knowledgeable. He put everything from the coupon in the system. But it can’t go through until insurance denies it. He didn’t have the ability to do that.

I read the coupon is good through June 2023 regardless of when someone starts it. It's still an awesome deal.

I had kind of a weird experience so take it with a grain of salt. Alpha sent it to my insurance on August 19th. Within like an hour, my insurance sent an initial denial and sent some kind of additional paperwork to Alpha. At that point Alpha said it would take another few weeks to complete everything. Alpha had also already sent the prescription to Walgreens. I tried getting Walgreens to fill it a week or two earlier and they had none and couldn't find it and never called me back. My daughter had been in the hospital so it all just fell off my radar. Fast forward to September 8th and I get a message from Alpha saying it's time to schedule my follow-up but I hadn't even started the medication yet, so I messaged the provider I worked with to tell her I hadn't started yet. I mentioned my issues with Walgreens and she suggested CVS, and sent the prescription there. I had it filled that afternoon with the coupon and no problems. I have no idea if the actual paperwork was ever sent by Alpha as necessary because I received nothing else from my insurance, but the whole thing was super clunky.
Separating this out from my whole ordeal of getting the meds, I started Saturday and figured I'd fill in how it went: I was worried about nausea so I took one of my prescription nausea meds for my migraines at the same time just in case. I never felt woozy or anything, and I've definitely noticed I haven't been hungry the last few days. I'm also on my period right now so my weight has been flat but I'm expecting/hoping that once this bloat passes, I'll see a quick drop given my minimal eating.

@rebeccawelton How did you message the actual provider? I’ve gotten the request for follow up appointment, but when I send messages it just goes to the general customer service. I don’t see the option to send a message to the provider.

I always select the option about selecting medication, or something like that, and then it goes to the provider.
I took my first shot on Friday. I love it so far! I was dizzy right after I took it, but that passed by Saturday. Some slight nausea, but not bad. I have no appetite at all. It's amazing. The best part though is that I haven't even been tempted to binge. I always struggled when in the house alone at night. Last night I was alone and it didn't even enter my mind to go to the fridge. I've never felt like this before in my life.

I understand this so much! It's so life changing in this way.
I wanted to pop in and say thank you everyone that is sharing their experiences in this thread!
At my annual yesterday, my PCP recommended Wegovy. I didn't agree in the moment, I told him I wanted to get more information. These stories are helping as I think through this decision.
I lost at least 10 lbs on the 2.5- not totally sure since my scale was broke in the beginning but that's what I'm going with. I moved up to 5mg and did my first shot of that this past Friday. Saturday I felt like crap all day and only ate half a banana but have been okay since then. Definitely do not have much of an appetite but I am making sure I'm eating. I never felt bad on the 2.5 other than a couple times and it was short lived. My brothers wedding is this weekend so I think I'm going to delay my shot until Monday. I definitely need to see about getting some Zofran to have just in case.

For me it's the pantry on Friday and Saturday night. I could do really well all day, all week and then unwind everything in two evenings by binging on the stuff I buy for my kids' lunches.

1.5 weeks ago I moved up to the 5 and mother of god, it was insane. I had (TMI) diarrhea so intensely for 6 days combined with severe nausea. I could not get out of bed or eat anything other than broth and gatorade for a week. It was seriously, so crazy. I spoke to my doctor who said it was not uncommon and that it was because I basically doubled the dose. So when I did my next one at 5 mg it seemed fine. I do feel like I am almost eating more now because of the entire time last week I think I ate less than 1k calories in a whole week. Hoping that things feel better and return to feeling less hungry with my next shot.
shauni27, that sounds awful! So sorry! Its so hard to know with this if the symptoms are going to continue or you will be back to normal with the next shot. I've seen a couple of Tiktoks where people were so sick the entire time even on 2.5 and they just couldn't continue with the shots.
I was on 0.5mg Ozempic and switched to 1.7mg Wegovy. IT WAS HORRIBLE. The first 4 weeks was constant nausea. I had to take Zofran almost daily. However, once I adjusted to the dose it's been fine. So far I've gone from a BMI 30.5 to 26.4. I'm not sure if I'll bother increasing my dose. I'm seeing good results.

my pcp was pretty confident that it was just my body adjusting to the doubled dose; I had no issues with 2.5 and have not had an issue with this weeks 5, so I will continue for now!
I do have increased GERD symptoms, however, they are not bad enough that I need to stop the medicine.

Do you need to be above a BMI of 25 to take the shots or any other qualifier?

I don't have comorbidities. I had gained a significant amount of weight in the last year due to my sleep schedule, despite exercise and healthy eating. So I messaged my provider and requested the medication
