So both H and I received a letter today from AvanteUSA. He is being billed for $152 and me for $473.
It says it is from First Texas Hospital (no idea who that is and Yelp says it is closed) but I did check my records and I went in to an urgent care on the same date in March 2017. This is not the same name of the facility but I imagine it could be a parent company. I was given a steroid shot because I couldn't breath, and discovered only afterwards they did not take our insurance. I was billed for the visit $1700+ and I paid it in July 2017. I remember being pissed about it since I was there for 45 minutes. It was a late night and everything else was closed.
So now what do I do? This feels like a scam with them billing both of us (only I was treated) but our insurance at the time was in his name. We do not live in Texas any longer but this urgent care/"hospital" appears to be closed. I have no idea about the process here.
It says I have been contacted about this before in writing but this is the first notice I have ever received.
Thank you. I have sent a certified debt verification letter. I don't understand how this is the first I am hearing of it 5 years after the fact. I have move twice since this date but both times were just last year. I do have a credit card statement where I paid the original visit, both charges were over $800. I checked my credit report, it is not reported yet. My research says this company is legit, but I feel like this is a scam. I will not call, per recommendations from CPB info on line, but I want to get this resolved.
This company's BBB page has a bunch of complaints that they make dubious collections calls. They're probably not *fraudulent*, just relying on outdated data? (how is medical billing so bad at this?)
I do think it's possible to be charged via multiple separate invoices for the same visit. For instance, a doctor might bill separately from a hospital.
I hope it's just a mistake though and you are able to sort it out relatively easily.
