And, as someone pointed out, there already are more than two parties. So make all the additional parties you want to, that doesn’t mean that they’re going to accomplish anything other than pulling votes from one of the two main parties and possibly royally fucking things up if the party they’re pulling from is Democrats.
There is no way in hell i'm voting 3rd party. In Texas, i'm voting straight party blue. It is the only way to try to save us from forfeiting our entire democracy, as others have stated above. Yang and anyone else pulling votes away from Dems in this race can go f themselves.
I don't mind the idea of a third party, but we need to have secured voting rights, right now is not the time to add them. I would say that we need to deal with the gerrymandering and the reduced voting rights before trying to expand the options.
Zero evidence for this but I am curious if Joe Manchin will become involved in this campaign. I have been trying to figure out exactly what he has to gain. (aside from more $ from oil & gas and attention).
Third parties exist but are pretty much never going to be successful. The entire American system (beyond the electoral college) is designed against them. They will always get a small amount of the vote, but that leads to zero seats of power because their vote is spread across many regions. Many European countries and other countries will vote based on party and then a certain percentage of seats is assigned to that party. Then the smaller parties can create coalitions with larger parties and get what they want.
There are just as many disparate interests as Europe in the US but those individuals are under the umbrella of the R or D parties. Hence leading to infighting amongst the parties. If US had a system more like Europe then there would be more parties because they have a chance at success.
Any third parties will ultimately benefit the party least aligned with that party because of the way the system is designed.
SharonSaysSo is having Yang on her podcast this week to chat about the party. She has a huge following and is in the top 1% of podcast downloads, so it is quite a coup for him. I hope she uses her platform to ask hard questions and it isn’t a 60-minute commercial for him.
Did you listen to this episode? I think it's out but I cant bring myself ot listen. I haven been following SharonSaysSo for probably about a year and I can't decide if the good she's doing outweighs the bad....something about her rubs me the wrong way. Maybe I'm just not her target audience, but I also can't make myself unfollow her....
neverfstop I did. I agree with his ideas to fix voting in terms of ranked voting and choice. But there is ZERO substance to the party. He could not articulate one thing except term limits that the party stands for. She asked about women’s rights, and he said HE believes in them, but it’s a party of individuals and the individuals within the party may not all have the exact same beliefs. No dude. You are not a party if there is nothing that unites you in terms of beliefs and what you’re working toward. He literally said Forward represents what the majority of people want. And she was like…but what people want is vastly different in a deep red area vs. a deep blue area. Do you stand for different things in different states? And he didn’t answer the question.
