I'm sad Cheney lost, but she looks to be running for POTUS in 2024. The GOP primary is going to be bonkers... I deeply respect what she's done on the J6 committee, but her ideas are still vile.
From Axios It sure looked like a presidential-campaign stage (above) when Cheney — vice chair of the House Jan. 6 committee — conceded last night in Jackson, Wyo. She immediately teased a '24 presidential run.
"[O]ur work is far from over," she began. "The great and original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the House before he won the most important election of all," she added.
"Lincoln ultimately prevailed, he saved our Union and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history."
Alaska Republican U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski advanced from her primary along with Kelly Tshibaka, her GOP rival endorsed by former President Donald Trump, while another Trump-backed candidate, Republican Sarah Palin, was among the candidates bound for the November general election in the race for Alaska’s only House seat.

My mom is all excited about this. She was a big GWB fan, switched back to dem for Obama and HRC, but claims Cheney is great. Like yeah, she's done well here, but that's about it.

Ugh. I knew she was running but forgot to check out the results.

I was just reading this article about her possibly running in 2024. The conclusion was she basically has no chance to win, but her goal may simply be to take down Trump in the process and keep him from winning. If that's true, I'm all for it.
this is very local and not even my county - but Montgomery County MD's county exec democratic primary (which is effectively the general...they're not going to elect a R) has been a wild ride and you should all get to enjoy it.
Initial results were down to a 42 vote margin, and they were supposed to certify last weekish and "found" 100+ ballots that were missed, counted those, it narrowed the margin a bit, but didn't change anything and they declared it for the incumbent a few days ago by a margin of 35 votes. This is a county of over 1M residents.
Runner up filed asking for a manual recount. They're not going to start till friday and who knows how long it'll take. My favorite part...this is the second time they're doing this. These two went head to head in 2018 too, there was a recount, etc. it came down to 77 votes that time. WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN???
Also if anybody remembers that crazy situation I posted about down in a southern Maryland county with the DEEPLY fucking corrupt State's Attorney who'd been in office since 2004? He got his ass handed to him in the primary. De-fucking-stroyed. 70% to 30% Yay!
Ms. Peltola, 48, was leading Ms. Palin, 58, in unofficial results on Wednesday, a strong showing that thrilled and surprised Democrats eager to see her become the first Alaska Native in Congress and the first woman ever to hold the seat.
Ms. Peltola, who is Yup’ik, is seen as having the same independent streak and devotion to Alaskan interests as Mr. Young, who died in March. Her father and the longtime congressman were close friends, and, as a young girl, she would tag along as he campaigned for Mr. Young. But she sharply diverges from Mr. Young and her top Republican contenders, including Ms. Palin, in her support for abortion rights, her understanding of fishing industries, her clear warnings about climate change and her commitment to sustain communities over corporate interests in developing Alaska’s resources.

It's going to be very interesting to see how it all pans out with the ranked choice voting. The House seat is definitely uncertain (the 538 article I read said it could be any of the three - Palin, Begich, or Peltola). I think Murkowski will end up winning her Senate seat easily, though, as she will get the #2 vote for many D's and independents even if she doesn't win in the first round.

MoCoer chiming in to say yes, it's exhausting! And also it's taken an awfully long time to count the votes.

This has been more painful than it was the first time! Also, interesting to note that the challenger spent about 5 or 6 million in 2018 of his own money and again during the 2022 race. To come up short by a handful of votes twice after spending that money is bananas.

It's a little mindblowing to me that he has a spare 10M just....around. That anybody does. Rich people sure are....rich.

Yet another strike from a dumbdumb Trump lawyer. Admits on Fox that there were classified docs, but it was ok because there was only 1 key to the closet, and only a few staff had access, and it's like super duper hard to get onto the resort that regularly hosts large parties (I'm only slightly editorializing).

Trump not likely to find any "reputable" lawyers. I put that in dick quotes because when you're too low for Alan Dershowitz! that "reputable must be a really low bar. What ambulance chaser team will he get?

DeSatan announced arrests of 20 people who submitted ballots in 2020 but were ineligible mere days before primaries and other local elections. Miami-Dade mayor says it's "no conincidence." In case you're paywalled, FL allows for ex-felons to vote. They must submit paperwork, which they did, not realizing they were ineligible (homicides and sex crimes) and cast ballots. Clearly Tallahassee would have known about this before now. It's voter intimidation pure and simple. Man, I hate that fuck.
Files copied from voting systems were shared with Trump supporters, election deniers
Sensitive election system files obtained by attorneys working to overturn President Donald Trump’s 2020 defeat were shared with election deniers, conspiracy theorists and right-wing commentators, according to records reviewed by The Washington Post.
