I have two work trips coming up with one full free day in each place, plus two additional evenings in London. What do you think I should prioritize seeing?
I have never been to Rome. I have been to London for two short work trips and love it. I went to Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, the Globe Theatre tour, and saw Phantom of the Opera, plus did a double decker bus tour so I have quickly stopped by Big Ben/Parliament, saw the London Eye, etc. I love old architecture, history, books, fun restaurants (not fancy), browsing shops, and anything scenic.
I technically will have two days in one place. I have to decide whether to fly to London early and have two full days there with a coworker friend or stay in Italy and maybe do one day trip somewhere else by myself.

What are you interested in for London? Museums, tours, etc? I'm happy to rec things from the obscure to the every day.
I personally would do a London Walk: www.walks.com. I do at least one a year and I live here. They are fabulous and you can find one that will fit the times you are there.

In Rome, I 100% recommend doing a golf cart tour. We were just there earlier in August, and it was a great, easy way to see a ton of sites in the city. This is what we booked, and it was perfect. You can even tell them if there are particular sites you want to see or spend more time at, and they'll tailor it to you.
The other things I would prioritize in Rome is a tour or at least tickets into the Colosseum and plan to spend some time just eating gelato and meandering around Piazza Navonna.

I would definitely stay in Italy and have a full day to yourself in Rome. It is a fabulous city! Even if you just went to the Roman Forum and the Colosseum it would be worth it. Add in some wandering around near Piazza Navona and seeing the Pantheon and eating some fabulous Italian food and you are set!

We were just in London in April. mrsukyankee suggested walks.com, as she did above, and we loved them! We did Old London and Jack the Ripper. Both were super interesting and engaging. We would have loved to do more, but our schedules didn't allow it.
For your evenings, you could see a show. We saw SIX, and it was so fun. Highly recommend. Plus seeing it in London was really special.
With a full day in London and based on what you said you like, I will go with my frequent recommendation of Hampton Court Palace. I've been many times and find something new to see or experience there every time.

I'm planning a trip to Rome in July with DH and DS17. With the golf cart tour, do you stop and go inside the places or is it strictly a drive-by visit to see the outside? I'm in the very early planning/researching stages and am pretty clueless at this point, lol. Our flight leaves OH on 7/4.

We stopped at various outdoor sites and walked around a bit with the guide as he talked. We also went into the Pantheon b/c there was no line, and we just wanted to go in and out (b/c 4 kids and all). But, I don't think they would stop for you to like go into a museum and walk around. If there was like one place though that you had your heart on, I bet you could contact the company to customize for you.
I wanted to update that both were incredible! I walked 26 miles in two days in Rome, and we packed it in. We didn’t go IN much, but we saw just about all the big stuff. I ate so much cacio e pepe and so much gelato and drank prosecco every night. Saw the Colisseum, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Vatican, Trevi Fountain (which was empty for power washing!), Castel Sant Angelo (we did go in, and the view at sunset was so worth it), the Capuchin crypts (so bizarre! Worth the few euro to see it), and more. Heaven.
In London, Liberty of London became my favorite store ever. &Juliet was SO much fun. We went to a zillion pubs, including the very oldest one, and about 12 different bookstores. We did the Portofino Market. Everything except the world’s cheesiest ghost tour was amazing. We tried to go to the British Museum, but the line stretched for blocks and we didn’t feel like waiting.
In Rome I'd go see the Pantheon and the Colosseum - I was in Rome for several days and those are the sites that stood out most. That leaves time in the day for just wandering around and people watching which is the nicest part of pretty much anywhere in Italy.
