Today, the government worker notices the calendar and thinks “wow, 9 years til retirement eligibility.” And then realizes she has become a cliché. (21 year time in service tomorrow)
edit: apparently I fat fingered a tag in here that was unintentional.
Quoting myself a mere 2 hours later because of the irony of how I feeling. I just screwed up (in other peoples opinions) again today. And it’s been like that all week. Everyone telling me I’m doing something wrong. Which, after 21 year here (well, 18.5 of them) is just… ugh.

wawa H and I went to Sedona for a long weekend in January and it was great. We did a ton of hiking though, so not like a lay on the beach relaxing vacation.
I am also looking for a long weekend trip for us in October. So far we're considering Charleston and San Diego. Flights times are not great for Charleston, and its a longer flight to San Diego than I would like.

Other people telling you what they think you did wrong…so frustrating. Hope the space of the weekend allows those negative voices to leave your head.

Yes! I keep saying that my old position (left it in January) was all stress and this one is all frustrations. But given the two, I’ll take frustration of pressure cooker stress. 😁

Never, ever, ever get your floors done when you are already living in a house (versus just before moving in) if you can help it. This project has been a nightmare. The new floors look great but omg the stress involved.

I did this once. It was awful.
I have lived through this three times. It absolutely sucks.
So today we learn how much money we get to spend on a new one.
We'll probably replace the furnace at the same time since it's also pretty old but really not looking forward to spending $10k+ on this venture.
I'm sure you've already decided by now, but we had to do this that really hot week in June. AC went out but we replaced both. Yep, about $10k.
Yeah, we ended up getting it replaced last week and ended up doing both. The $10k hurts but at least we have 18 months to pay without interest so we didn't have to cough it all up at once.

We are going to have to kind of do this. Just the stair thankfully. The rest of the floors where done some reasonable time before we bought the house, so they look good. We just took the carpet off the stairs this weekend. And we found hardwood, YAY! But yellowed red oak. Everything is else is brown, probably Jacobean or walnut. Currently debating in my head how to handle these stairs. I’m going to need a runner (for traction for me and the dog). Refinishing them seems overkill when I’m just going to put down a runner. But, they clash with all the other wood.

to be fair, I've never had to make actual decisions regarding flooring. I just had to survive the chaos 😅 given that I never want to do that again, I would probably just recarpet the stairs lol.

Do I want a 45mm Apple Watch if I think my wrists might be on the small side? I currently have a 38mm Series 3. I know I'll have to get at least a 41mm so maybe I should get 45mm.

Ha! It’s tempting… but it would be the only carpet in the house. Sure, there are rugs, but not wall to wall carpet.
Plus, H will want to do it, if for no other reason than the longer he has a running list of projects, the longer he stays on “sabbatical” 🙄

The 45mm makes me look like I'm wearing a whole ass cell phone on my wrist.

Okay I literally just pulled out a ruler before seeing this and felt that it would be too big lol. Thanks!

Before we moved in last year, we replaced the carpet with HW floors throughout, except the stairs, which are still the original carpet. I think we're just going to put new carpet on them. I can't stomach the cost of doing HWs on the stairs, just to put a runner down over 3/4+ of each riser and tread.

Yeah, if we had found rough subfloor, we would have done carpet, no question. But, it’s good and in good condition, just slightly off in color. Making it an actual delimma. Not that I need to decide now. It can stay mismatched for months to years. 😂
like our kitchen. We added an island, found a scrap piece of corian that fit the island, priced out new counters for everything, and decided we can live with this for, what is likely to be years 😂

I signed up for a free online class to learn ASL through the Oklahoma School for the Deaf. They had to send out an email explaining why the course doesn't have sound. That is something that someone had to take time out of their day to craft to send to people. The general public just astounds me sometimes.
pixy0stix ,, that class sounds awesome! Post if you get word of a repeat, please.
On the hardwood stairs thread. We are removing the rest of the carpet today (previous, we just pulled up one step to check what was under it). 😬😬 “we”= H. I’m just sitting here in my office ignoring the noise 😂)
I am in DC, and Scalise (the guy who got shot at the softball game) was at my hotel bar, and I’m pretty sure I was in the elevator with Lyin’ Ted. It looked exactly like him, and he didn’t say hi to me, but said hi to the skinny blonde woman who got on after me, so it checks out. There is a conference that attracts a lot of conservative politicians here. Lucky me.
I got my e-bike from the city ordered today! There's really only one company that is selling cargo bikes that are close in price to the rebate amount. They have a bigger cargo bike but it's been recalled due to an issue with the tires so I got the next smaller one.
