konapoppy I do understand that gifts can be a love language, and think its true in this case, but at what point do my wishes trump their love language? I actually think its rude that they don't respect what I am saying/asking.
I just remember their positive intent, and have zero regret about giving it away. It is rude when it gets to that point - especially if it is anything large or difficult to get rid of. And obviously hard to not be more annoyed if they are someone who asks you for money/is always talking about how broke they are but are addicted to shopping. But I really believe some people can’t help themselves.

Yeah it is annoying. Unfortunately you can’t control anyone else :/ My mom refuses to not give me gifts for Christmas. My partner and I don’t even celebrate Christmas (as in we don’t do gifts and when we haven’t gone to see family or friends we just spend the whole day together watching Netflix and relaxing), so I’ve tried to explain this to her but nope.
So the only way around it is to tell her explicitly what I want. If I need a new bra, that goes on my Christmas list, or other practical stuff for the house. Sometimes it’s more fun things like make up. But yeah I just tell her exactly what I need and thankfully she does stick to that.
I’m not looking to dealing with this with a child :/

Granted we are an all women office except 4 of our 6 doctors, but we all went to lunch last year on a Friday afternoon and had the BEST time and the docs paid (in addition to giving us cash). It was a ton of fun, probably since booze was involved .
