I cried myself to sleep last night, dd is home sick today while I’m working, and I can’t find any non-ugly Barbie clothes for dd’s Christmas stocking. So that’s how my morning is going.
Sometimes I think I have no right to be upset, as my life is pretty good, but then I remember, I have been in some pretty traumatic situations, and it’s ok to give myself a break.

I’m sorry @bernadine
DS is home sick and I felt terrible walking out to work this morning. He just wanted to snuggle on the couch. I know that won’t happen much longer since he’s 10. I am so lucky we have an amazing nanny who loves him, but I wish I could stay home today. Unfortunately the shit is hitting the fan at work right now, and staying home is not really an option.
I am ready for the weekend and we’re not even halfway there 😩
H has been OOT for a conference since Monday morning and comes home tonight so I've been running solo with kid and it's exhausting! I'm thankful it was a short trip - I tip my hat to those of you who have partners who travel regularly (I know there are quite a few here!) and juggle all the things! I'm hoping he'll make it home to take her to tonight's activity since I did Mon & Tues night but I'm not sure he will be so I'm mentally preparing for it LOL.
But I'm not going to lie - it's been so nice to have the bed to myself! Kid asked if she could sleep in there since H was gone and I quickly said "NOPE! I'm looking forward to sleeping without hearing another person breathing or snoring!" Sorry not sorry kid!
It's been rainy, cold and dreary all week so I'm looking forward to this weekend because it's supposed to be sunny and warm up!
Both of my kids are home from school today. It was a scheduled half day and we were all having a rough time getting moving this morning so I just let them both stay home for a mental health day. They're teenagers so happily went back to sleep. I expect to see them again around noon LOL
Our random school calendar has a student holiday for the local town day today and I'm just WTFing thinking a Wednesday is a good day to have kids off. And then send them back for 2 more days.
Anyway, dropped the kid and dog off with my parents this morning and came into the office.
I am hoping to catch up with my mentor today as I am having a major issue with my boss and need some advice. I cannot apologize for other people's bad decisions and I shouldn't have to.
One of my smoked detectors started beeping at 4am because the battery is low. Why does this always happen in the middle of the night or morning before the sun rises?
My dog was anxious about it and puked on my bed.
I feel like I've been at work a half day already and it's only been one hour.
I don't have a D battery so the damn thing is still beeping. Hope the pup is ok.
Ugggg, I'm struggling with the temp in my office right now and I'm annoying myself LOL. I have a little heater - turned it on, got too warm, turned it off, got cold, turned it back on, got too warm, moved heater further away, got too warn so turned it off again - all within about 30 minutes. And now I'm cold again! I don't know why this is such a struggle for me today!
I have today off to get ready for leaving for vacation tomorrow. I need to clean, run a few errands, figure out what I'm going to wear and then pack it lol.
I'm revising my department's editing test we give to all prospective writers/marketers for the first time in its 20-year history and digitizing it at the same time. (This is my idea of fun; the editing portion has 30 homophones!) My boss, who is a superior editor, took the multiple-choice section last night when I was on my way out of the office. I told her I'd send her the score when I got home. She got an 80%, so I just sent it with no comment. 😬
I got up at 6 to try to wrap up something I’ve been working on. I am making good progress, but I keep skipping over the harder stuff and now all I’m left with is hard stuff. So I’m here. Lol
I cannot wait to be done with this thing. I need to find some grit.
It is amazing how our bodies react to the seasons. It has been cold the past couple days. Also it is getting darker earlier at night. Everyone in my household has reported sleeping suuuuper heavy each night and really struggling to get up in the mornings. It is like we have all gone into hibernation mode. Also I am instantly way less productive. I just want to curl up and not move for 5 months lol. I am sitting here right now thinking I could really just crawl back in bed and sleep. That is not normal for me.
Thankfully the weather is return to normal tempts today.

I work from home and that's me almost every day! Since I spend so much of the day in the office, I hate heating up the whole house to a temp that's comfortable for me when I'm just sitting at a desk, not moving much. But that means I *need more warmth*! So, heater on, heater off, heater on, heater off. Oh, and I have a shawl, too.
My random is that I had turkeys in my yard yesterday and today. I used to get them occasionally but for several years, I see them maybe once a year. I am sadly excited when I get to see them, and now twice in a week. I'm just a geeky bird lady!
I grated my thumb in the cheese grater last night. I took a good chunk out. It bled for so long! H said I should clean it with hydrogen peroxide... or was it rubbing alcohol? I felt like my finger was on literal fire! It was just a little bit on a cotton ball too. So that's fun. You know how much you use your thumb in every day life?
DH has also been OOT for work since Monday. My kids are old enough that solo parenting isn't as daunting to me as it used to be, but it's just so weird having him gone. I miss my friend. We both work from home, and it's so nice to just always have him here. We're not super lovey-dovey people, generally, and honestly don't spend a lot of time together-together, but there's just a nice comfort when he's around.
I ordered a packable puffer coat from Amazon. I went with the Amazon Basics brand bc 1. I love a private brand 2. I didn't want to spend much 3. I don't spend a ton of time outside to need a really "good" jacket. I'm excited to try it on when it gets here. The reviews are pretty decent.
The kids have Fall Break coming up. They're out of school 10/24 through 10/31. This break is a hold-out from when the elementary schools used to be year-round. So many families in the district love it, so it's been preserved even now that we're on a "typical" schedule. I mean, it's kind of nice to have this break, but it's just excessive to have a full week+ at the end of October. I'd personally prefer to have a long weekend, or the full week of Thanksgiving off, but man do you get some stink eyes if you say this to other parents around here.
Parenting is just kind of breaking my heart lately and I am tired. Does anyone else have a 6 year old who is just super grumpy? It's really wearing on me. I just feel like nothing I say or do is right and I am met with salty responses to everything I say. Its really triggering for me and I want to tell him to knock it off but he's also allowed to experience his emotions so of course I won't do that, but ugh its so annoying. Maybe it's just the transition to Kindergarten still? He's happy when he is getting 1:1 attention from us or of course when he is doing preferred activities, but everything else just seems like such a fight with him.
I mentioned in passing to my boss that one of my friends in college was an RA. He was like "wow, you had friends who were RAs? Nerd alert." He was joking with me. But also, has he met me? I have passionate feelings about the Oxford comma. Of course I'm a nerd.
I did point out that I was not an RA. Not that nerdy.
Also, hugs/high fives/sympathy nods to everyone who feels like parenting is a shit show and too hard and/or is randomly disproportionately upset by minor issues. It happens.

DD1 is in kindergarten and was having some bathroom issues this morning so missed the bus. No worries - we live a seven minute walk from the school, bus pick up is at 8:36 and she’s not ready to school until 9:15 so plenty of time to get her up there. However, I had to be at school for a volunteer thing at 8:45. She wasn’t ready to leave when I walked up so I told H to drive her up, park and then just walk her to the door when she was ready.
He decided to go through the car line. When he told me this when I got home I said well how did she get out - she’s still in a 5 point harness and sits behind the driver. Guys he got out of the car to help her.
I was like someone is going to post about you on the local Facebook pages today 😂

My kid goes to a balanced calendar school so we have a week off at the end of October as well. It's nice if you want to travel because it's an odd/off season time for most locations. Normally we're off the same week as you and we book our resort but then the calendar came out and it was a week later so joke was on us for trying to plan ahead. Thankfully we were able to make changes to our booking. But we do have next years dates already! We get a week in February as well but kid usually does intersession camp through the school for that one. Personally I do love it and it is helpful for my kid but can understand why folks might not like it.
C came home sick from school yesterday, and then spiked a 102 fever. So I’m staying home with him today. Negative COVID tests both yesterday at the school nurse and again this morning, so likely just a cold. He’s feeling a little bit better today. I hope he can go back tomorrow!

LOL I bet someone ALREADY posted! Bless his heart.

Haha yes!!! I was late getting DD1 to school this morning and the line was being held up by someone at the front who got out, hugged their kid, then had to go back for one last kiss. Seriously, people, schools starts in 3 mins and you are holding up the line!!!
eddy , I totally agree about the weather! I told my H this morning it is *so* much harder to get up in the winter vs. summer. All I want to do is curl up on the couch under a blanket with some tea or cocoa. Are people who live in places where it is warm year around much more productive than us? LOL Meanwhile during the short summers I feel like we squeeze in so much stuff every weekend that I look forward to the fall to relax a little.
beerlover, I think it's okay to tell your kid that his behavior is not okay. I get not wanting to police his emotions, but there are appropriate and inappropriate ways to express those emotions. (Granted I have no idea what's "appropriate" for a 6yo.)
lust2hart, I have told him his behavior isn't OK but I haven't given any consequences for it because that doesn't feel right. IDK I have no idea what I am doing lol.
C had a fun run fundraiser at school yesterday. She was so excited for it, and she really ran! She did 35 laps without stopping for water. When I picked her up and asked her how it was, she said, "When do I get the money?" She thought the money she raised went right to her! I explained that it went to the school as a whole. She thought about it for a minute and said, "Well I would have stopped for water if I knew that!" OMG this kid

OMG, there is a dad at David's school that literally gets out of his car and slowly helps all four of his kids with putting their backpacks on and kisses and hugs each one. The.Fuck. It is so annoying. I'm the one rushing David out of the car and pushing him out as the car is still moving, lol.

That is so cute! My DD would 100% say something like that!
