I took my son to the doctor today because he has had a cough/cold for 12 weeks (Covid in September, flu in October, cold in November), and I don’t know what to do to make him better. She was like, “it’s this winter. It’s nuts. He doesn’t have anything I can treat, and he might just cough and have a runny nose all winter.” Daycare is like an opera of every single kid coughing every day at pickup. It’s so gross.
DS had a stomach bug the Friday before Thanksgiving. I then felt sick on Tuesday. No appetite, mild stomach pain, just overall blah but never threw up. Now, H is not feeling well either, almost a week after me. Same blah symptoms and no vomiting. Is this the slowest moving bug ever or what!? I did clean and wash linens etc but clearly that did nothing.

DD2 had the stomach bug before Thanksgiving too and it lasted 5 full fucking days. At least no one else in our house got it. But yeah, it sucked and lasted way longer than usual.
noodleoo, when DS had it last Friday, he was over it in 24 hours but then randomly threw up again Monday, so ours was also basically a 5 day affair too lol. I'm just really surprised H is sick now over a week later. I mean I guess it could be something else, we were out and about the last few days. I'm just hoping that me being sick last Tuesday was it, and I'm not going to catch whatever H has. Stomach stuff is the worst.
It appears we've joined the stomach bug crew. DD (3) threw up milk chunks everywhere this morning and simultaneously peed her pants (I think we need to burn our couch). We were at 5 days without an illness (a relatively good run).
I don't know how long this can continue. It'd be comical if it wasn't so soul crushing.
I'm sorry about the stomach bugs. Nothing worse. I am an emetophobe, so I have spent way too much time learning about the norovirus(es?). The number I have in my head is 2 weeks when my kids have gotten it. They can still shed the virus 2 weeks after they start getting sick, and I assume all surfaces could also be infected that long.

Fuuuuckkkk.... I jinxed myself. DD2 woke up at 4 AM puking. We all got zero sleep. 4th illness to hit our house in 7 weeks. <sob>

OMG - poor all of you. That is a long ass stomach bug. I hope it remains contained to her and is over soon!

Nooooo! I'm so sorry. Hope everyone is feeling better soon, scm1011 and noodleoo and everyone else.
I posted yesterday about my son's illness; we got to the doctor finally in the afternoon, and he has a double ear infection and conjunctivitis in both eyes. They also swabbed for flu, strep, and Covid, but since they haven't called yet, I'm assuming those were all negative. The poor kid is miserable, and he's home at least through tomorrow. .
Ours may have been a false alarm. DD has a history of puking when she gets upset and at the time she was hysterical that DS and I went upstairs and left her alone downstairs. She only puked the once and seems fine now. Fingers crossed.

Are you sure it’s not flu? Type A has a GI component. Our daughter has been sick now almost a week. Cycles between throwing up, diarrhea, fever, runny nose and cough. It’s awful.
doglove, pretty sure it's not flu. No other symptoms.
noodleoo, I'm sooooo sorry your DD is vomiting again I would be so frustrated. My H vomited last night too but it seemed to be a one and done thing for him. I am the only one that hasn't actually thrown up over the past week so I am nervous.

Whenever someone talks about stomach bugs I remember the time in February of 2016 9 out of 13 of us watching the super bowl got it. The hosts' DS had it and was all recovered before the party.
macmars45 , our friends have a huge March Madness party every year and something similar happened where like 15 people got a stomach bug afterward. They were all passing around shots and probably sharing glasses inadvertently, and I think the only reason why I didn't get it was because I was @@@@ pregnant and couldn't have any!
My nephew threw up at school on Monday (after we were all at their house for thanksgiving) so I've been on the edge of my seat re: stomach bugs ever since. yall are not helping.
We unfortunately have experienced the long ass stomach bug before. It is awful. Each family member got taken down in 1 week incriments. It was torture.
My poor sister's family is just getting decimated. The two year old has no joke been sick every two weeks since early September. SOmetimes another family member catches it. But sometimes it is just him. Right now it is a really painful ear ache. Two weeks ago it was influenza A. Two weeks before that as a fever and cold. Two weeks before that was COVID. It goes on and on. He is in daycare and has always been in daycare (without masks because he is so little) but he is still just catching everything. I feel terrible for her. I live to far away to help in any meaningful way.
My kids preschool is still cancelling stuff and saying it's due to covid. I feel like it's just them being cheap and I'm annoyed. We don't get snow here, so schools will rent a snow/ice machine and do a "snow day". The kids LOVE it. They just sent out a thing trying to be cute saying that the "weather forecast changed due to coronavirus!" No these kids are together all day long, them playing in snow pile vs on the playground is not suddenly going to suddenly bring on all the COVID. They also cancelled the Christmas program and then yesterday sent out a request to wear red or green outfits today because they're filming the Christmas program today. Give a little heads up on an outfit request!

I don’t go here, but I *am* emetophobic so I’ve thought about these kinds of situations a lot lol and I would say if you saw them Thursday he likely wasn’t contagious yet so you’re probably ok!

We didn't leave till Saturday. 😬
But I do suspect we might be ok at this point?
Still, I think you’re fine. He maaayyyyy have been contagious Sunday afternoon/evening, but also if you haven’t gotten sick by now you’re likely fine.
Kid #2 is currently home from the sitter's due to both babysitters (it's our neighbor and her son) testing positive early Wednesday. So we're on symptom watch and J and I are switching off days home with her. She's been fine so far but was last there Tuesday evening so it hasn't even been 72 hours yet, we're basically in "prepare for the worst but hope for the best" mode.

Maybe "due to Covid" means that the company that rented out the snow machine went out of business or dramatically raised their prices "due to Covid" or (due to a labor shortage of people who worked there as a result of Covid).
Around where I live, a bunch of stuff was eliminated "due to Covid," and what actually happened was that they had to use extra manpower to implement a new protocol "due to Covid," so other services were eliminated because they just didn't have the staffing to implement the new thing and also continue the thing that is now being eliminated.

Aaaand symptom watch is over, #2 tested positive today along with my husband (who dropped off at/picked her up from the sitter's Tuesday). He's got mild cold symptoms and she's got a very intermittent runny nose so far, so fingers crossed it doesn't get much worse. Both #1 and I are negative and no symptoms so we're all (well all of us but #2 because she's 3 and a wild card) masking in the house and trying to stay out of each other's space.
Now I'm just hoping we finish getting past this shit before Christmas.
DH is mostly over his gunk except a lingering cough/congestion. Seems like it's my turn now -- but I'm just a little stuffy and feeling tired. I suspect it's flu b/c the three of had our flu shots have gotten off pretty lightly, while DH (who hasn't gotten his flu shot yet) had the worst of it.
My 69YO mother is laid up with her first bout of covid. She went on an overnight trip last week with a friend, and both of them now have covid. My dad just picked up paxlovid for her, and she's pretty healthy overall, so hopefully she will have a mild case.
