Sunrise 6:32 Sunset 4:38 according to my app. It's really more like 5 when it gets dark. I also hate driving in the dark, so I do like that I work until 4:30 so its not that bad. But I dislike going anywhere after getting home, and then mid January I start getting excited about light again!
supertrooper1, our forecast this week is sunny and low 40s. Which means heavy fog and the sun may peak out 30 minutes before it sets so the temp feels way colder than it is. We had a precipitation record over the weekend. Any flooding in your are yet? They were worried about slides in the fire areas.
Sunrise: 6:28 AM Sunset: 4:29 PM I'm in New England. I loathe the 4:30 PM darkness. I get out of work around 4 and it's so hard to be motivated to do anything when it's basically already night time.

186momx, we were supposed to get over 4 inches of rain starting last Friday with flooding predicted. It rained hard on Friday, but nowhere near the 4 inches they were calling for and the rivers are higher but not even close to flood levels. Everyone is scared of floods now because one town in our area was almost wiped out in the last two years. Houses had 6 feet of water in them, which hadn't happened since 1990.

One advantage of being so far south is that the day lengths are a little more consistent year-round. Our days aren't as long as Northern states in the summer, but they don't get as short in the winter. When I moved to San Diego, I thought it might seem like summer year-round, but the light really makes it feel like winter to me right now.
We're trying to start bedtimes sort of at the same time that we used to, pre-time change, so that we're all up a little earlier in the morning and don't have to rush out of the house. The kids were sleeping like 9-7:30, but I was having to wake the kids up a lot for school and early weekend sports. So we're trying to go for more like 8-6:30 now, or 8:30-7. It won't work every night - DD has basketball 7-8 on Wednesdays - but hopefully we can keep leaning more in that direction. The kids aren't necessarily asleep at those time, but at least doing quiet stuff in their rooms.
sdlaura, DD has chosen to go to bed early the last 2 nights. She was pushing it between 8:30-9 and last night went to bed before 8 because she was tired. I hope she continues this trend on non-practice nights because she has looked so worn out lately. The racoon eyes are real.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I’m also in CA in the Bay Area. I hate when it’s dark so early but also hate when it’s dark when I wake up. I think I need to move to the equator….I think that’s how that works but am really tired and don’t trust my science memories now.
sandandsea, you are right. When we were in Hawaii, I think it got dark at 6pm in the winter and maybe 6:30/7pm in the summer. Not much differentiation. My dad lived on the north coast of Columbia, so it think it was 6-6:30pm all year round. I think that is the reason Hawaii doesn't change from standard to DST because why bother?
Aside from driving in the dark, I actually don't mind it getting dark early. I loved it before we had kids and the dog, since I really liked snuggling into eleven blankets and watching TV at night without falling asleep because it's late. I was always annoyed that good show releases seemed to come out in the summer when it didn't get dark until 5 minutes before bedtime.
