We had parent teacher conferences this morning for the girls and they both got great reports. DD2's teacher said that she hasn't noticed a ton of OCD habits in the classroom, so that's a relief. Just a couple small things that we had discussed during her 504 meeting at the start of the year, but nothing impeding her learning. That's a big change from last year, so that's good news. And DD1, as much as she plays the tough guy at home, is nothing but polite and respectful and a typical "pleasure to have in class" kid, so that's hilarious.
DD1 is knocked out with some kind of nasty bug. She's got a fever and a terrible cough, complaining of a headache, and is just generally miserable. She's been crying over little things all morning, so I know she's just not feeling good. Covid test was negative, but I'm wondering if I should try to get a flu/RSV test done at urgent care just in case.
Dd is finally on the mend. We are going to a country concert with her friends and moms directly after school for a friend's 16th birthday. I feel like I am going about my workday dressed for the rodeo. I'm not much on country music, but Im along for the ride and it seems the girls really like the artist.
Thankfully I am off tomorrow.
DDOT- It seems there is a tremendous amount of money going to the state from an opiate settlement. But a noice went out for grants with no real guidance, parameters, how much can we get? So I have spent two days trying to navigate local agencies on writing these grants. The next couple of weeks should be fun.
We decided to close the office today! DD doesn't have school today or tomorrow. We have some major chill time planned.
DD talked to her main teachers about being bored and not learning at school. Thry both told her to come up with a project to do outside of and she could turn it in for extra credit. Ugh
Today it is 75 and this weekend it will be 30, lows in the 20's. I'm going to have weather whiplash.
twinmomma , I would take her in to be tested for flu. That is what DS had and it's going around hardcore in our area. I didn't even get the flu shots yet before we all got hit with it because we were aiming for the shots the first week of November and it started in October. We all recovered just fine except DS who had a 10 day low grade fever. 10 days! And the NP said that was normal for what she was seeing with this strain of flu. We had influenza A.
ENT results on DD are that his adenoids look normal. And of course after we forced an appointment, that weas the first day in FOREVER (I'm talking MONTHS) that he wasn't hacking up grossness, and he seems to be continuing the upswing. Either way, I'll take it.

So ds2 (age 6) told me they don’t have school tomorrow and he’s right. I totally missed it but will be wfh anyway.
Ds1 was sick Saturday evening through Monday, not COVID but common cold symptoms and bad enough to stay home from school on Monday but went back Tuesday. He’s getting better every day but still isn’t quite 100%.
We’ve been worried about ds2s social situation at school as he often reports he doesn’t play with anyone at recess, can’t find his friends, etc. Well, we had his conference today and the kiddo is a rockstar. There was a nonverbal boy in his class who has never spoken and every day ds2 would say hi and talk to him even and play with him even though he never talked back. One morning the boy said hi back to ds2 and it was his first time ever speaking at school. Ds2 kept befriending him and talking to him and a few days later the kid said one word during class and is now fully verbal. The teacher gushed about how sweet and social and amazing ds2 is and how that’s really amazing at his age. We were so excited for him and proud of him. The teacher said ds seems to find the outliers and one off friends and tries to include them and plays with everyone rather than sticking to the same small group all the time and she loves his heart so we are going to try to not worry about it and KOKO.
sandandsea that’s awesome about your DS. My DS2 is in a class with a couple of special needs kids, and one of their aides pulled me aside to say that my son was really kind to the child she helps and treats him like a real friend - that made me so proud.
waverly there’s lots of flu here too. It does seem like the people who had flu shots are faring a little better in terms of length/severity, so at least that’s good.
My four kids are off tomorrow. DS2 is signed up for 5-year-old day camp at the YMCA, DS1 is going to do skateboard camp with a friend. My parents are in town at their condo here now, so they’re going to have DS3 over for a few hours in the morning and then take DD and DS1 to a 3:15 movie. I’m excited that I should be able to get a little work done and the kids all have fun things to do.
Also since we start school in mid-August, my kids’ conferences were almost a month ago already!
In similar vein, I was trying to find something reasonably priced to attend during the holidays. None of the local theaters have anything except for holiday music. The other theaters are about $80-100 for a ticket which I didn't really want to spend $400 just to see a holiday play or musical. Andplusalso, I hate the Christmas Carol, and the nutcracker is just eh OK for me. My kids are too old for children's theater. We made the mistake of going to a preschool musical/ play once, never again. The audience spent the entire time snacking and bouncing. If they had a show for tweens, we would be there. And then anything else I am interested in is a random Tuesday at 8pm when the kids have school the next day. Can't win.
So I need some tween activities for the holidays if anyone has suggestions. We've outgrown most everything. Maybe I'll do it as a date and night and the kids can stay home by themselves....
My grandparents use to pay for my family, when I was a kid, to go to Florida after Christmas and invite us to their friends NYE parties with a movie on NYD. I'm missing that nowadays.

I'm always surprised to hear people say they went to the doctor to get tested for the flu. Doctors around here won't test for the flu and just tell everyone to stay home if they're sick.
There were some minor errors and spelling mistakes in the final divorce decree that his attorney sent to mine. His attorney is working to update those errors and I hope this is done soon!
I'm off tomorrow and just plan on lounging around, going to the gym, and shopping at Costco before DS comes home.

I’m also on a business trip and have also lost track of the days. My home airport is closed due to tropical storm so I’m here an extra night, but I’m hopeful I can make it home tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
I have enjoyed the trip family time, work time, learning time, but my brain is tired and I’m ready to go home. Plus we have DD2’s birthday party Sunday and, wow, am I so glad I booked it at a trampoline place rather than having it at the house like we usually do. With two unexpected no school, cooped up inside days for the kids for poor H I can only imagine what the house looks like.
Oh, and I am planning a low key retirement event for co-worker. I wouldn't even call it a party per se, but there will be party food. So I tell her, so she makes sure she is there that day and it is OK with her. She says yes OK with her, but she says she would rather do drinks. Really? We can't have drinks at work, and I am not planning a second event during the holidays outside of regular working hours just because you like booze. How about I give you a bottle of booze for a present? Retirement date is Dec 1, and there is no way with that date that we can do something with Thanksgiving and Christmas right then.
Just did a telehealth appointment and she'll be getting flu and covid tested tomorrow morning. She's stressing me out because she says she can't really taste anything. For example, I gave her a cough drop and she said she could tell it was sweet but couldn't taste the berry flavor at all. The doctor said that the home tests haven't been super accurate recently on whatever covid is happening now. Ugh.
supertrooper1, I'm also surprised (and have been for years) at frequency of flu tests. I've never had one. DH has never had one. My kids have never had one. If you call asking for an appointment, they tell you to do self-care at home unless symtoms are really worrisome or worsen (you have trouble breathing or along those lines), in which case you go to ER, and if not, call back in 14 days if symptoms haven't subsided.

waverly I'm thinking about taking my kids to see the lights at the zoo or the botanic gardens, do you have anything like that? I might also take them to the big holiday parade this year since they've never been. Mine are 9 and 12.
Where I am, unless you have something that makes flu more dangerous for you (old age, for example), they tell you to stay home. If flu is more dangerous for you, they’ll test you to get you on antivirals. But if you go into a doc in the box, they’ll test you and give you antivirals regardless.

waverly, nope, no antiviral medications. It could be a west coast thing. Doctors here have been anti-antibiotic for 30+ years and I think it's a similar thought process-that it could make the virus/bacteria more resistent.

This is how it is here too. Two of my kids had likely flu a few years ago, but it was pretty mild so the doctor wasn’t considering antivirals, so she said there was really no need to test.
DD’s friend (age 10) has been pretty sick this week with a high fever for days and vomiting, etc, so they did test her and it was flu.
I don’t remember ever being tested for RSV. Maybe when DS was sick as a baby. It was negative but maybe past the point of showing up. He was hospitalized with bronchiolitis at 4 months old. Daycare germs.
@twimmomma, I hope your daughter feels better soon. I've lived on the west coast all of my life, except one year in Minnesota. I've never been offered a flu test....I never gave it much thought, but with RSV and COVID so prominent, it seems prudent to test if symptoms are severe. This week has been wired for me. Not bad....first, I am having difficulty adjusting to the time change (always do). I attended a virtual conference Monday- Wednesday. Being out of my normal work routine made the days go by quickly. Schools in our district were closed because of inclement weather Wednesday, so having the whole family in the house that day was a lot. Thursday snuck up on me. We have today off. Veterans Day is always bittersweet for me. Missing my grandfather. He passed away seven years ago. As a WW2 vet, this was always a big day for him.
