I thought we could start a thread for deals, ISOs, etc.
I got Lego advent calendars for the kids for $30 each at Costco. It’s not that it was an amazing deal, but I got that checked off the list and I think they’ll enjoy them.
We did the Lego calendars one year but my kids didn’t keep up with building it. Usually we buy the $2 chocolate ones and the elf brings it. Not sure what I will do this year. Do my kids even believe in the elf anymore? They do like seeing him move around.
I got lucky and in laws finally decided not to exchange presents. So I only have to buy for my immediate family and my mom. For my nephews I usually do cash. I have not started at all because DH goes all out for the kids so I decided to wait and not duplicate efforts. I might have to buy for SIL’s stepson but they haven’t really told me when they are even coming or if stepson will be there since sometimes he is with mom.
Just picked up a 9th Gen iPad from Walmart for $299 (64GB). They also had 256GB for under $400. DD’s 7th Gen iPad crapped out last week so this is our top priority present.
I'm basically done shopping at this point. I picked up a bunch of random board games on Prime day and will put those under the tree for the kids to all share. We went to see Santa over the weekend (love that my 10 year olds are still all in!) and DD1 wants a robe, slippers, eye mask set and DD2 wants Shrinkidinks. I immediately went home and ordered them off Amazon. Done and done. No clue what beau's son wants, beau will have to figure that out.
I do need to get something for my mom. She's my secret santa person this year. I bought fabric to make her a National Parks themed quilt to keep in their camper, but honestly don't think I'll have time to make it. So I need a plan B.
This year I'm going to grab activity books like word searches from dollar tree, pull the pages out, and use those as our Advent calendar. I didn't find any others I liked and we really don't need more little toys and junk. Beau's son can't have the chocolate kind so those are out. And since they're not here every day we always end up way behind anyway so it's not a true countdown.
I shopped the entire weekend. We went to an outlet mall. I got Ds 2 pair of Levi's for $70. They were giving healthcare worker discounts and thankfully, I had my badge, so I got Ds an Eddie Bauer coat regular $129 on sale for $37 and myself a Columbia coat for $62, and his Vans for $55.
I got Dd a Vera Bradley suitcase for $90 whichwas 70% off. I ordered her Apple Watch on Amazon for $170. I'm sure i could get it cheaper on Black Friday, but at this point, I want things checked off my list. I got her some sweatshirts, which is all she wears.
Ds wants a snowboard and boots, and I found one on Amazon. We are not in snowboard country, so I had little idea if it was a good one, but one of his friends said it was, so I am going with it.

I want to buy Beau either a good set of steak knives or a knife set for our trailer. When we first bought the trailer we bought a $20 set of knives that are terrible. We have a Zwilling chef's knife at the house but I don't know if I want to spend that much for a set. Any recommendations?
The only other shopping I've done so far is I picked up a set of air pods for DS from Target that were $40 off.

I don’t think they’re any less expensive than Zwilling, but I’ve had my Wusthof knives for 10-15 years. I just bought them individually over the course of a few years on the premise that I would not use most the knives in a set so I have a chef knife, a boning knife, a paring knife, and a set of steak knives. All fantastic.

So this is going to sound crazy, but we really love this Cuisinart knife set. Cuisinart C55-01-12PCKS Collection 12-Piece Knife, Multicolor Advantage-Cutlery-Set, Multi-colored a.co/d/fdgc0gF They would be great for a trailer.
supertrooper1, we have a similar set that mommyatty, recommended. I got ours from Costco. We have a couple ceramic knives in our camper, a chef knife and a couple pairing knives.
If anyone is looking for basic family fleece. Cabelas/Bass Pro has some in their black Friday for $15. We got them last year and they held up really well.

when is the elf supposed to come? This is going to be our 2nd year.

If you want your elf to bring Advent Calendars then Dec 1. If your elf doesn't bring anything date specific then you can do any date in December. I would advocate for something like Dec 10th, so you only have to move the elf for 14 days. If you do longer, then it gets not as exciting and you run out of places to move them too. I also don't do any fancy elf scenes or anything, but I know some people do and there may even be a kit on Amazon.
We’ve never done the elf before, but one of my friends was theorizing that my older kids (8 and 10) would get a kick out of doing it for my younger kids (5 and 2). We’ll see…
Dd2 is still in full on Santa mode. She’s 9. I am pretty sure this is the last year because one kid in her class was telling everyone about Santa last year. She’s nearly 2 years older than everyone else so it’s totally appropriate, I just wish she’d be quiet about it.
Half of me is soooo over Santa, and the other half wants one more year…

I was sad to be over Santa. However now we wrap everything, or Dd wraps everything but hers, and they get under the tree and try to to figure it out, which is fun. Plus, Christmas Eve, I go to bed and get a good night's sleep instead of being up at midnight trying to put together a Batman fort.
Our elf shows up December 1st. For some reason this past week the girls are adamant that our family might get another elf this year so that beau's son has his own. I have zero intentions of getting a second elf. I always forget to move the first one! Plus, DD2 saw our elf packed away in a box last year so she knows it's not real!
This reminds me that I have no clue where the elf currently is... And I think we lost her hat last year... I'll be sad when Santa is done but will have no sad feelings about the elf magic being over.
I'm very annoyed. Dh's brother sent him a text yesterday asking us to please not give them gifts. That nephew is still opening his b-day gifts from his October b-day. I bought everything for them weeks ago and it was wrapped before thanksgiving waiting for DH to need to make a trip for work to their town. DH was planning on delivering it on Monday. Do we still porch drop it or do I just donate what I bought? I'm fine with stopping with gifts but 2 weeks before the holiday is a little late in my opinion. What does WP's say?
186momx , Could you say something like this. "Hi DH's brother, thanks for letting us know. However, we did already purchase gifts for Nephew, so we will drop them off on Monday. We are open to not exchanging next year or doing more of an experience gift. Please let us know if you would like to do that for next year."
If he comes back with no really please donate them instead, then I would donate. But this way you cover it for next year with plenty of time and point out politely that they were late in telling you.

We didn't get our elf until last year, when DD begged for it, despite knowing Santa wasn't real. She loves moving the elf for DS and he gets SUCH a kick out of it. So as much as I hate the elf, I agree with your friend.

Could you save them for their birthdays next year to cross that off of next years list?
Update on DH's family...DH called his brother and just said that "wife" has had everything wrapped and waiting for me to deliver since thanksgiving and that he would be porch dropping it today. I was shocked to say the least that DH did this.
I agree - magnatiles. I bought my 2 yo niece a set of Picasso tiles, only because the magnatiles are so strong that I was afraid she would be pinching her fingers all the time. I hope the Picasso tiles are just as good.
We got dd1 magnatiles when she was 2 I think? She’s 13 and they’re still in use.
Yep, I got DS3 an animal magnetiles set this year, too mommyatty. We already have every toy under the sun, including magnetiles, from the 3 older kids, but they're one of the only things that everyone still plays with and aren't a huge PITA to store and clean up.
