I have a friend due in a few weeks with a boy, she has one other child, also a boy. She saved everything from her first child and can only think that she needs diapers. She thinks she might be forgetting something, since her first is almost 5.
Are there other things she might be forgetting that are consumable/wouldn’t have been saved that I could get her?
The one thing I bought new for each child were blankets. I like my kids to have their own baby blankets, plus my older two were not willing to give up any of their blankets for a younger sibling. My youngest was given a blanket with her name embroidered on it, which I loved. I also bought all new thermometers, pacifiers, etc. for each. Bibs also might be good, those get pretty filthy so she might not have them anymore.

Some ideas: new bottles, bottle brush, breast milk bags, etc stuff for bathing- like the sponge seat thing to bathe an infant in the sink We needed another sound machine since DS was still using his new burp cloths new first aid stuff like the nose suction bulb
Someone gave me one of these for my second and I wished I had it for my first because I used to take her out a lot.
I took the second baby to Disney twice while he was still in diapers. I carried his diapers, wipes, and a little blanket to put under him in a clear ziplock bag so I'm sure I would have survived without this thing. But it was much appreciated.
Maybe stuff for the parents? I liked shower steamers and meals (either brought or GC for a local place). A gift to occupy her five year old? Or take him for a long afternoon so mom can be home alone with baby?
Pacifier, pacifier clips, new teething toys, kid food plates/cup/utensils, bibs, hatch light, small diaper bag type toys... A lot of the smaller stuff I realized I didn't have. I think from my older kid eventually losing it or throwing it away because I felt it wasn't worth saving. Idk if my stuff was stored wrong but anything that was silicone had this weird greasy type of film that I could not wash off. I had stored everything after fully cleaning it obviously so it was wierd. Also my first used their kid dishes everyday and they had lost a lot of the suction over the years that they previously had which you need with new eaters.

I would do gift cards if she’s not doing a registry. Something for food delivery and then Target, so she can get whatever she wants. Then, maybe a book, especially if it has a special meaning (my friend got me a baby book that’s about our neighborhood, my coworker got me a baby book called A for Activist since I do a lot of advocacy work, etc).
My oldest was SO EXCITED to be a big sister. She loved matching with baby sister so fun matching outfits and big sis/little sis tees were much appreciated in our house. Either way, try to pick up something small for big sibling to open too so they feel included!
I have 2 boys both born in the winter but 6 years apart. I ended up getting some newer baby items that weren’t around/ I didn’t use previously. I loved my cosleeper and the boppy lounger. I bought new bottles, breastfeeding supplies, diapers, wipes, diaper cream, new diaper bag, etc.
