So I am having a hard time coming up with gift ideas for my 8 year old. The problem is she turns 8 on Dec 3rd and then there is Christmas. Items I know she wants are mostly small things. Looking for a larger item to go with the smaller items.

My 8yo turns 9 on Jan 11, so I feel you. His number one “want” is a pair of Nike Air sneakers, which will probably be for his birthday. The big present for both our kids for Christmas is an iPad (to share). They don’t have their own and I think it’s time.
Santa is bringing a big lego set.
We aren’t getting him a bike at the moment but he’s ready for the next size, so that’s an idea.
I also think it’s fine to not buy a “big” present if there’s nothing they want. I also think a money or a giftcard that they can use when the holidays have passed and there is something that they want is nice for them.
My kids have 2 Dec.and 2 Jan bdays, so I have a massive shopping spree every year! It's a big organizational process. I have a spreadsheet, and I'm not normally a very spreadsheet-y person.
Anyway...think indoor, outdoor, hobbies, consumables, sets that build on each other like a dollhouse and pieces to go with it. Clothes items, outerwear, cool shoes. What is she interested in? My DD is turning 8 in Jan and LOVES Barbie, also wants some American Girl, jewelry, likes glitter/fun makeup type sets, Playmobil, "cool things for her room". I almost have gotten the EZYRoller scooter things a couple years in a row for the kids but haven't. Bikes, helmets, snow sleds? pending where you live. Art supplies--my DD asked for oil pastels randomly last year and LOVES them. Her larger items this year will be shared with her sister; solo large item she wants is a large Playmobil set.
American Girl doll? We're big into American Girl so that's always a big part of my kids' lists.
My older one wanted a hoverboard at that age and loved it but it quickly stopped working. We've had bad luck with 2 in a row so I'm kind of done with those.
My son turns 8 around the same time. Big gifts are a Crunch Labs subscription and video games. He also asked relatives for science kits and books.
I ordered dominoes (bulkdominoes.com or Bulk Dominoes on Amazon) for Christmas. We used to have some but loaned them to a friend and never got them back.
I put some board games on his wishlist, too, but he's hot and cold on those lately. Maybe a tree swing or hammock swing? Or some kind of sports equipment?
My kid never has a shortage of wants, but i am really trying to limit the “stuff” in our house. Do you have any local places she’d like passes for? We got ours Legoland passes for Christmas, but everyone seems to be doing good Black Friday deals right now. Not a gift, but I also bought passes to a local ropes course and the kids science museum. They also love gift cards to local places that we might not go to very often, but is a treat to them - ice cream, Jamba Juice, Chuck E. Cheese, McDonald’s, etc. My kids both have these little kids safe/lock boxes that they LOVE and keep all their “treasures” in, so I’d probably get something like that and put gift cards or whatever inside.
DD turns 9 at the start of December. She wants a camera like a Polaroid which I will purchase.. She’s started getting into purses a bit so I bought a nice Jasmine one from ShopDisney. She will be having a rainbow themed party in early January so I’ve been typing in “rainbow” into various sites and viewing the results. I ended up finding some cute stuff at Saks that were reasonably priced like a headband, socks, and another bag.
I will acquire stuff and split it up between her birthday and Christmas. This is a lot! I also have a December birthday so I am committed to making sure it gets celebrated hence delaying the party to January than trying to cram it in now.
DS is 12/21 bday and turning 9. Last year we got alot of outdoor stuff like basketball net, archery kit, skate board. This year he wants a life sized stuffed tiger, Pokémon cards, puzzle books. Tis the season where my wallet cries. DS2 bday is 1/10 so I only get a small break before it’s time for more gifts.

Do you have a link to the archery set? My DS is 10 and has asked for one.
I’ve nothing to add except #DecemberBirthdaysUnite!
Seriously! My H is Dec 2nd, My FIL the 22nd, my grandma the 27th and my mom the 30th.
When he was born my mom annoyingly made a huge deal about how awful it is that DS has a birthday the week before Christmas. He was my baby after 3 miscarriages and I didn’t care one iota when he was born. But 10 years later…it does kinda suck trying to figure out presents, get people available to celebrate during a busy and travel time of year, etc.
I'm just here to commiserate. DS turns 8 this week. I struggle every year with figuring out two sets of gifts so close together. It always just feels like so much because he gets gifts from a lot of people and everyone wants ideas from me, and it's hard to come up with that many!
I think it's okay to just get a bunch of smaller stuff if she doesn't have one big wish. DS likes Legos, video games, board games, and books so that's most of what he is getting from us and others. He's also getting a basketball hoop. I'm suggesting a couple of family members just get him gift cards for Christmas because he LOVES them and then can save them to space out the influx of toys. There are only so many video games and Lego sets he can get at once before it becomes overboard.
I got my DD a bean bag chair. She has a pile of blankets in a corner of the playroom called her “chillax zone” and it’s her personal space. So it’s to upgrade that spot.

My birthday is Nov 20th which some years is within 2-4 days of TDay. So we are go go with birthday & holiday celebrations from Nov 20th until the new year.
Thankfully our DS6 has a spring birthday and our wedding anniversary is mid June so we get to celebrate stuff at other times of the year.

We have this issue with A, her birthday is Dec 1!
E is almost 8, here are some bigger items on his list: Smart watch Bigger Lego sets Monster high dolls/sets Roller skates Rock tumbler Leap Frog microscope Beyblades Hot Wheels tracks, particularly the Mario Kart ones Video games (Splatoon and Big Brain Academy are on the list but others he plays and likes are the Pokémon games, Super Smash Bros, Disney Dreamlight Valley, Minecraft)
A is turning 5, but some of her bigger items are Barbie houses or sets with the vehicles.
Every year our birthday gift for our kids is either a trip or a big party with friends. Could you do a trip as the birthday gift so that you only need gifts for Christmas?
I just looked back at the google doc of gifts for the year my DD was 8. Her big gift was a desk and chair. She loved playing school and also had a ton of art supplies and she wanted a place to keep them.

My daughter is turning 8 in February. She's getting an American Girl doll from my parents and the doll's younger sister from us. We're also getting her a new comforter set she picked out a while ago and some new decor to update her room a bit (not totally redoing it though).
My daughter turned 8 in November. Her gifts were a pair of roller skates and a party at a trampoline place. For Christmas, she’s getting a dollhouse for her American Girl Dolls and a few other small things (books, squishmallow, crocs, vinyl stickers and water bottle, cheap make up, art supplies).
