Was looking at tickets for Broadway shows coming to our city this winter, maybe for DD turning 14.
"Six" is coming and I know everyone loves it but I just don't get it. Isn't it, like, depressing? B/c you know most of them die? Or kind of morbid or something?
Would you choose that or "Hairspray"? Not sure whether I will choose either...just thinking about options.
I haven’t seen Six and only saw Hairspray on tv but since I’ve seen parts of it then I would probably pick Hairspray.
My daughter would enjoy Frozen or Legally Blonde the best.
My son does not care for musicals, but he does like history so I guess Hamilton/ Newsies is more his style.
My daughter has also enjoyed Into the Woods jr, Godspell jr, Little Mermaid, Sound of Music and Come From Away. Just mentioning some shows in case you decide to do local theater. I decided to do that and skip Broadway prices this year.

I wouldn’t say it’s depressing. There is one sad song that tugs at my heart strings, but overall it’s a really upbeat and fun show. More like a concert. Maybe listen to the music before you purchase. You’ll get the gist of it. If beatlejuice is an option, I highly highly rec!!! Both my kids loved it and I thought it was great too. (Fwiw, I hated the movie.)
It’s a fun, flashy, girl power show. I flipping loved it.
EDIT - the whole premise is that history defines them by who they married, but they were all more than that definition and their songs are around the unjust ways history treats them. The sadder song is Jane’s, who Henry loved the most (allegedly) while the others are like “fuck this guy!” In the end, they all want everyone to forget Henry and realize what a jerk he was.

As part of my efforts to make this my own "best Christmas ever", I bought myself two tickets to Six.
I love your description-- I am so excited to see it!!

This is the perfect description. Six was a really great show - felt like a rock concert and the costumes were incredible (I got to see them from VERY up close as we won lottery tickets so were front row, hahaha). I went with my almost 12yo DS and he also really loved it. He's into history so that pulled him in, but the upbeat songs/dances and concert-like feel kept him. Highly recommend!
Six is an incredibly fun show. They each sing their song in the style of a famous singer - so one is like Beyoncé, one like Adele, etc. It is out on like a rock concert and is incredibly fun and fast paced. Definitely not morbid!
Six isn't depressing. It touches on some darker themes of course, but the overall tone is pop concert. It's a good one. The music is catchy. It's a short show.
