DS was complaining of a sore throat last night before bed. He woke saying it hurt worse and it's hard to swallow. It doesn't look red. He doesn't have a fever or any cold symptoms. I think he's pulling one over on us. I told him he could stay home today, but this is his last "rest" day of the school year and he's not staying home again unless he's really sick (fever, puking, bad cold symptoms etc)
Since I didn't have to drive him to school, I decided to stay home and work remotely. Monday and Wednesday are supposed to be in office days. We had our weekly meeting this morning and there were only 4 people in the office. Everyone else was working from home either due to their own illness or kids being home sick.
H and I are supposed to go to Toronto Friday for an overnight to celebrate my birthday. It's going to be so so cold on Friday. The high is 7 and low -10. Ugh. I'm considering canceling and maybe just staying in Buffalo and rescheduling TO for the spring. We went to Toronto a few years ago for my birthday and it was also a super cold weekend and we froze trying to walk anywhere.
DD is home sick with the same thing. She had a fever for a few hours on Saturday and a really sore throat. It’s not strep, Covid, or the flu. Just a virus presenting with a sore throat that feels like strep. It’s going around apparently.
cereal K , Finding Ohana is like this, kind of similar to Goonies. There is also now a National Treasure TV series you can stream on Disney Plus. It's a different cast from the movies.
I'll check out Finding Ohana. I've been watching the National Treasure series as it releases - loving it! I'll def be doing a rewatch once it's all out for continuity.
I just got denied for an internal lateral move by a 3.5-minute rejection video. 🤨 HR professionals, please don’t do this. After watching it, I now just feel convinced that I need to leave the company and I can’t imagine that was supposed to be their intent.
I have never heard of this. Was it a personalized video or some kind of produced thing that they send to everyone?
Not personalized. It included little snippets from various people in upper leadership and the theme was how you should talk to your manager about how you can develop skills that will make you more qualified for future positions. My manager is a terrible manager, and he is why I’m trying to leave my dept, so it just came off as wholly unhelpful and demoralizing.
Totally freaking out about my job now. There is a big announcement coming tomorrow and my coworker told me they saw a new structure document that they weren’t supposed to see and I’m not on it. No meeting scheduled yet either.

H hit a coyote yesterday and damaged our new mach E. High school selection was this morning and took over an hour for the webpage to load correctly. Also have to complete residency information for schools, and have to submit electricity bill - but the pdf wouldn't load for over an hour. It's raining. I have a lot of work to do today.
Our change in pay classification is on hold because they didn't actually have approval. Shocking.
My boss wants my impacts in my appraisal, which are "covering everyone's asses," but I can't really write that down.
"Provide general oversight for all pending projects to ensure thorough and timely completion, including as-needed delegation of tasks and assignment of deadlines."
And
"Fill in on project elements across the spectrum, to include [specific examples of shit you do]."
Snow day for the kids due to very icy roads. Apparently the highways were a complete shitshow last night, and temp isn't expected to get above the low to mid 20's today. I think the district made the right call.
I'm a little more than halfway done with a 20-piece embroidery order. It's a nice one, bc each piece is fairly quick. The lady who ordered doesn't need them until mid-March, and I quoted her mid-Feb, but I'll probably have them done by this weekend.
I've been really into "puzzle" movies lately - action-y type movies that have some sort of mystery or puzzle to solve. National Treasure 1 & 2, the Dan Brown movies (DaVinci code, et al), Knives Out/Glass Onion, the Agatha Christie reboots (Orient Express, Murder on the Nile). Does anyone have any other movies like this they could recommend? I'm gonna burn these out if I keep rewatching lol
Have you ever seen Dead Again with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson? I loved that movie. Not exactly like the ones you mentioned but definitely a twisty mystery. We just watched Orient Express and can't wait to see Murder on the Nile now.

What Lies Beneath is such a good movie! I watch it about once a year. It is so scary without being gory. I love it so much!
eta: Oh, also The Fugitive is really good (the Harrison Ford one)

Oh, I've been meaning to watch this movie for so long. It's a cold day, lots of bad weather expected so everything is cancelled, maybe I'll watch this today!
bears, jinkies, We worked with a contractor a couple of weeks ago and promptly fired him. His measurements are totally wrong; we have a soffit he didn't account for, he made one bank of cabinets 13" too long which would mean our door wouldn't shut, and just other things that irritated me. He came highly recommended too.
DH and I are pretty handy people. I work in the construction world. I truly feel like once I get over decision paralysis it'll be smooth sailing, it was just a lot all at once and made me totally overwhelmed. We plan on doing everything ourselves, with exception of the installation of the cabinets and countertops.

LOVE this movie. Just scary enough and so well done. We used to watch it every year too. We took a few years off and watched again this year. Still one of my favorites!

I have never heard of a recorded video rejection either (and I work in HR). Seems like a horrible candidate experience, especially for internal candidates.

The Fugitive is one of my very favorite movies. I like to watch it around once a year when I'm sick or its a rainy day or something. I love 90s Harrison Ford lol.

I have not - I'll add it to my list. Murder on the Nile is so great! Better than Orient Express IMO. There's a third movie with KB as Hercule Poirot coming out in Sept and I'm soooo excited!

I'll add those, too!! After binging S3 of Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) on Amazon, I hopped in the way-back machine and watched all five Jack Ryan movies, starting with The Hunt For Red October. They were all really good and held up surprisingly well!

Has anyone watched Poker Face on Peacock? It sounds like it'd be my kind of thing, but I'd love to *know* that before signing up for another service (again lol).

I love it! We watched all 4 episodes over the weekend.

Apparently I do, too lol (he's in What Lies Beneath as well)
I also liked The Others (Nicole Kidman), I don't think it's well reviewed, though. I remember the twist was like, woah. Not for kids, though and it's quite dark.
cereal K I really liked poker face. I will say that by the fourth episode (they've only released 4 so far) the concept was feeling kind of forced. I'm not sure if 4 was just a weak episode, or if it will be downhill from here. The first 3 episodes were great.
My family LOVED Columbo when I was growing up, and Poker Face is clearly an homage, right down to Natasha Lyonne's mannerisms and style of speaking. Nostalgia was definitely a big part of why I liked it so much.

Because of this show (even though I haven’t seen it yet but was wowed by the guest stars in the promo), Traitors, RHOM and the inevitable RHUGT, I got sucked in to Peacock’s current promotion of $29.99 for a year 🤷🏻♀️
