I’m in Phoenix waiting at a hole in the wall Mexican place to have lunch with my dad before driving up to Sedona. I’m trying to be patient because it will be good to see him (and would have been rude not to given he’s so nearby), but I’m ready to get on with my drive and start my “me” time.
Hopefully this place is good. It’s quite busy.
I wasn’t going to do any hiking today, but if I can get up there early enough, I might try to do one of the shorter ones before I hit my lodging.
I spent a good chunk of my weekend trying to figure out how to organize DS2's 394085823 hoodies. I'm so tired of looking in his closet and seeing mounds of unfolded hoodies strewn about.
I'm really cranky today for no reason whatsoever.
If you figure something out, please let me know. I have grounded myself from buying hoodies
My solution was to buy a shoe rack that fit in the bottom of his closet that I can stack them all on. His main problem is that they were on the top shelf that he could barely reach, so if he pulled one down and decided that wasn't the one he wanted, he just balled it up and tossed it back up. I'm hoping the shelf down low will help. Otherwise, I may try hanging them with the hangers deadwing posted. I didn't want to hang them because his closet doesn't have much hanging space, but man am I over the piles.
My kid and I finished the Percy Jackson series last night. Now all I want to do is talk about it, but I’m 36 and it’s 2023.
And I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I don’t understand why Harry Potter fandom exists when Percy Jackson is right fucking there, better in every way, and not written by a POS terf.
I will 100% talk Percy Jackson with you. I have read them all (and pretty much all his other books, about to start the Kane Chronicles). Saw the Percy Jackson musical and anxiously awaiting the TV show. LOVE PJ and agree it is better than HP.

My 10 yo, whose opinion on this I value immensely, says he thinks that HP has a slightly better storyline than PJ,; however PJ is way better written so he prefers to read (and reread infinitum) PJ over HP any day.
Unfortunately too many of his friends are not readers so he has no one to talk about it with - shame you aren't around Patsy Baloney as he would happily talk about PJ with you!

Ha, we can start a PJ reading group and invite your son
I appreciate his perspective. Now i can't decide which has a better story line. As an adult, I think I prefer PJ. It really bothers me now how abusive people were in Harry's life and how no one helped! Like who sends their kids to school where the teachers treat kids like that? ha ha.
I have realized every month I get a week of significant spotting before my week long period. Does anyone else get this? Google tells me this can be a sign of low progesterone, which can be a sign of perimenopause. All I know if it’s annoying because I have about 2 weeks a month without some sort of awareness of needing a pantiliner or tampon.
YES. I had this and put up with it for a couple years before I finally put my foot down with my doctor and told him I was done with it. All of it. I also had horrendously heavy periods, too.
I had an endometrial ablation and it’s changed my life. I haven’t had a period in two (maybe 3? I can’t remember when I had it done!) years. I get spotting a couple days a month where a panty liner is more than sufficient. I am not exaggerating when I say that procedure changed my life. I used to never know when I’d get spotting or bleeding. Sometimes I’d just randomly spot if I worked out too hard on a particular day. It was like that procedure gave me freedom to be normal again. I cannot say enough good things about it. I was 38 or 39 when I had it done.
I volunteered in my DS' 1st grade class this morning and agreed to work at his school this afternoon (I sub for the district). I was going to run an errand after volunteering but realized it was run the errand or eat lunch so I came home to eat lunch. :-p
Menopause is kicking my ass right now. I have been waking up at 3 a.m. with hot flashes and my mind racing every night. I am an exhausted zombie and work is insanely busy. I was out of town at a funeral all weekend so on top of the general menopause tiredness I am funeral (emotionally) tired. This week is going to be insanely busy with DS birthday on Friday, another birthday party tonight and high school registration. I just want to crawl in bed but my mind will not let me relax. I was on HRT but for some reason it made me extremely itchy. I had to get off of it, see an allergist and now a specialist. I gave 9 vials of blood last week to figure out what going on with me. I need to break up with my current gyno as well. He was zero help when I was going thru my itching issues and all he could do was send me to the allergist. Menopause should not be this hard.
I was having the 3am heart and mind racing and then up for the day. You really just can't function! I've upped my magnesium to 400 mg and started taking melatonin regularly. I have chewable 3mg ones I used to take on occasion, but now I'm taking a 3mg slow release every night. If I wake to go to the bathroom near 3 I take half of a melatonin gummy as well. I've been sleeping better.
I put on nail polish last week. I typically don’t wear it because it usually comes off at work, and we aren’t supposed to wear it in the clinic anyway.
But I’m really liking it, despite the tips having no polish anymore. I may redo it for this week as well, and then take it off for next week. It’s just been a real pick me up!
Something I've noticed: melatonin helps my anxiety/ruminating on subsequent days. And stopping melatonin (when my sleep patterns are under control) increases those issues.

I seriously need to clean out my clothes closet. Everytime I change size, I donate what doesn't fit anymore. This year, I'm boxing them by type and size, and putting them in our shed. That way, when I change sizes, I'll have clothes! Why didn't I think of this before?

I just upped my magnesium, I will add in a melatonin tonight and see if that helps. I was taking a CBD mixture that is supposed to have Melatonin in it but it's probably not enough.

I also have that many hoodies and recently got these bins, they fit about 8 hoodies folded and have a window in front so you can see what is in them. They fit perfectly on the shelf in my closet or you could stack them.
tarzanswife A few different things I read said 500mg of magnesium and it ranged between 3 to 5 mg of melatonin. I got the vitamin Shoppe brand of 3mg of sustained release melatonin. The chewable gummies act fast and I like that I can take half when I wake up and that gets me between 4 and 5mg. I had funky dreams when I increased the amount, but they seem to have died down. The gummies I use are midnite sleep health
I have strange flashes. When I first get under covers or when I roll over in the night and get under blankets it seems to trigger it. I've been taking a big ice pack wrapped in a thin towel to bed. I put the ice pack on my wrists if I feel it starting and it's been helping so much to head them off. Since they seem to happen to me when I wake and reposition during the night it's been better too since I'm staying asleep more.
procedure today to look inside her stomach (I forget what that's called) and apparently she has a bunch of ulcers and suspected gastroparesis. They are also referring her to get her gallbladder removed, which was an initial concern but then didn't show as an issue on any tests.
An endoscopy? I’m glad she is finally getting somewhere. Her being in pain for so long before something was done is ridiculous.
I’ve had an endoscopy that found ulcers, and had my gallbladder removed as well. However, I didn’t think they could diagnose gastroparesis with one. I also have gastroparesis and I had to go through a stomach emptying study. Good luck to her!

We settled my case and I got my check!!!! I will be able to pay off my credit cards! I’m so relieved. I can’t believe the insurance company agreed to settle.
I'm down to just 5 items to think of/purchase for H's 50th birthday. I even took off the individually wrapped 6-pack of beer because it felt like cheating. And 5 assumes I can purchase a tee shirt from our favorite burger place, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. I figure maybe a trip to Home Depot for random home/tool stuff maybe.
We start therapy tomorrow. I'm excited and nervous.

As much as I want to be the house where my kids and their friends hang out, I don't really like it when my kids and their friends hang out at our house.
DD and her gaggle of girl friends started filming a movie at our house a few weeks ago, and asked to come over today to keep working on it. I said sure. I was in dd's room helping her clean out her gerbil cage (a regular chore) while she was on a google meet with them making plans, and one of them needed a ride, but another girl's mom could pick her up, but another girl couldn't be picked up till 6:30/7, so I was like, ok, you girls can stay for dinner if you want, I can make pasta if you will all eat that, and they were all excited for that, so in my head I was like ok, 7 is a little later than we usually hang out on school nights but not terrible, it's fine. The dd's bff's dad called me, and was like, I'm on my way to drop my daughter off, she said she was eating dinner there, I just wanted to make sure it was fine, and I said yes, I had planned on making pasta, and he said oh that's great, I'm on my way to my son's wresting match at this town over an hour away, and my wife is meeting me there, is it ok if we pick her up on the way home? And I said sure, thinking to myself it would be around the same time as the other girl. And then he says, the match starts at 6:30, so we should be picking her up sometime around 8:30/9, see you then! Womp womp. That is definitely later than I was planning with my dd, who is struggling with anxiety and bedtime and sleep, on a school night, but too late now.
And they are so loud, and they went outside for a while and came in covered in mud because the snow all melted yesterday when it warmed up to 50 degrees, and as sweet as they all are, I am just not breezy enough to handle this on a Monday.

expectantsteelerfan yeah that is too late for a school night. I'd sat either they come right after school and leave early or weekends only from here on out.

Yes, I think that's what it was! They are going to do a stomach emptying study, too. She actually had to reschedule this test from last month because her stomach wasn't empty, which is part of why they suspect gastroparesis I guess.
Sounds like you've been through the wringer too, especially now with an MS diagnosis. Do you think your GI issues were related?
Also, congrats on your settlement! I hope you get a really comfortable new bed!

OMG, I can’t agree with this more. My son is 8 and hangs out with neighborhood kids between about ages 5-13 (his friends and their siblings), and it’s just a LOT of boys to have in the house. We can usually kick them out to play at a neighborhood park or in the yard, but then they just get sweaty and smelly. They’re all very polite, but OMG the SNACKS. C isn’t a huge eater so we don’t keep a ton of snacks in the house, so when friends come over they clean us out.
I've mentioned my sister has been having abdominal pain….
I hope she is able to get a treatment asap now that they know what is causing the issues!! I have been thinking about her and was hoping for a positive update soon.
I got us DQ blizzards for my birthday b/c I don't really care for cake and just wasn't anywhere that I had the opportunity to get a better dessert #rurallife.
I always get the same thing. Oreo cheesecake for me, cookie dough for H. About lost my shit on him when I went to the freezer to get mine and noticed he had already eaten half of the Oreo one b/c he thought it was his. WE ALWAYS GET THE SAME THING. Apparently he doesn't have as much attention to detail with food as I do. This was almost birthday ruining material (I'm mostly kidding), but the half was enough, really.
I got a mini pizzelle iron for my birthday. I made a batch, then sandwiched two with Nutella. I can't believe I haven't thought of this combo before!
I went for a one mile run with my dog. I haven't run since 2020 and haven't really taken her to run with me much. I'm happy to report that I didn't die running with her, and she only went nuts for a bit.
